Spring dlc Speculation 2023

I honestly felt that way after the conservation pack, but the Emu/Wallaby were what I'd consider very highly wanted and logical choices, but absolutely required? I feel the Amur Leopard and P. Horse were the last two mammals to hit that spot. Moot point over the Emu/Wallaby anyways since they're in the game (which I'm glad for).
Before the emu/wallaby it was impossible to build a realistic australian area.

Sloth, Porcupine, Walrus - recognizable to casual players and good representatives for their respective general biomes - Hot/Wet, Dry/Hot, Cold/Wet. These three, along with the Tasmanian Devil, are the perfect four pack-leading mammals. Baboons, Wolverine, Red River Hog and Fossa probably next tier.
Taking this into account...

  • Rainforests with sloth and red river hog
  • Dry areas with porcupine and baboon
  • Cold areas with walrus and wolverine
  • Islands with Tasmanian devil and fossa
This could be a good basis for the next 4 packs

4th pack of 2020 - I know it’s quite controversial because we have absolutely no proof that it was even planned or not but I believe that in perfect world free of Covid and it’s disturbances we could count on the 4th pack in Autumn 2020. What could it be… it’s hard because many animals were introduced in the later packs an that ruined the idea of any continental idea but maybe those could work (4 habitat animals plus scenery):
  • Central American pack with Sloth
  • Ground birds pack with Secretary bird + theme
  • Monkey pack with baboon

I reckon the missing pack was the Twilight pack. I really think that the reason people were so underwhelmed with it (not including me, it is my favourite pack!) is because it felt like it should’ve been released earlier. I think if it had been released as the third pack of 2020, people would have been a lot more content with it!

But I think we lucked out having it as recently as we did. I think had we gotten something like that earlier, we would not have gotten bats, we would’ve gotten a simpler exhibit animal. So I’m glad we got it now (if indeed it was planned for earlier).

We actuslly have some "proof", in that we know from the leaked rosdmap that the plan was 4 packs every year.

Also, my theory is that it would've been the Africa pack, as year 1 was the year where they filled all the very blatantly deliberste missing spots in the roster, and by the end of it only the african rhino and meerkat were missing.

But that leads to the question of whar would've been the pack of summer 2021 in that case?
I still think that pack with 4 ground birds would really something, it’s crazy how small the birds roster still is.

Imagine pack with Secretary bird, Great White pelican, Gray crowned crane and Greather Rhea 4 birds that would complement the mammals so well.

A predator to keep in the Aviary alone.

Majestic pelican to enchance Europe, Africa and Asia to swim on our lakes and rivers.

Colorful crane to keep with ungulates from african savanna.

And quite easy to make SA representation that is a part of nearly every European zoos and it’s very often kept with llamas and SA rodents.

They could have add new behaviors like nesting and some building pieces to create aviaries and many new plants from different biomes.

I am definitely not a huge birds fan but I would buy that kind of birds pack in a snap.

I wonder what was their plan when they were starting in January 2020. Spring pack was on time. The Australia pack was later than usual.

And no anniversary animal. I wonder what species could’ve been???

That's 100% what I'm thinking out as well. Get those in, fill in the rest with whatever they want, though hopefully some popular requested animals too.

This would be very very unmarketable. There's a reason all packs are diverse in their selection, and lean on cute and charismatic mammals, mostly carnivorans. A pack like you suggest would only appeal to hardcore animal/zoo nerds.

They're not suggesting an all-bird pack, just a pack with a large number of habitat birds And birds are an entire class; it doesn't make sense to treat them as equivalent to a single order of mammals like "rodents" or "carnivores." A secretary bird, pelican, crane, and rhea are no more closely related to each other than an elephant, lion, gorilla, and kangaroo.

The lesser rhea would actually work out for highlands, they have some populations high up in the andes at the altiplano plateau (see map of the iucn and geographic range below, wehre 4,500 metres is listed as their upper elevation limit: https://www.iucnredlist.org/species/22678081/217016710 as well as Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altiplano).
Another feasible candidate would be either the golden pheasant or the himalayan monal, both of which could probably be based of the peafowl rig.

Just saying, the Highlands pack has a lot of potential ...

I don't think that a bird pack would be that unmarketable. Marine Mania was one of the most popular ZT2 packs and it focused exclusively on swimming things. They could lean right into "Planet Zoo Feathered World", put out some very colorful cover art, add some nice scenery or a new mechanic and I have no doubt it would be as, if not more, popular than the aquatic pack. People like novelty and if they think that a pack offers something very different from the rest they're more likely to buy it. Even if the animal choices aren't there and the nee mechanic is actually a free update.

Unpopular opinion here but we absolutely don't need a rhea. I don't understand why so many of you want a rhea. We have enough ratites and there are so many other ground birds that would be 10 times better to have.
I ultimately wouldn't be upset if a Rhea was included, but I agree with the general point of these. There's, to me, far better choices for habitat birds. But again, I wouldn't be opposed to a Rhea...as well.

I mean, sorta. The difference is that Marine Mania featured a mix of things, like dolphins, sharks, pinnipeds, otters and penguins.
A bird pack, I feel like, wouldn't be taken exactly the same as Marine Mania, although I'd want one.

I feel like they'd call it the "Feathers of the World" animal pack. Imagine the background is scarlet macaw feathers

The reason why, in my case, is that they are important ratites for South America. It's like saying the kiwi isn't needed for New Zealand.
Rheas are perfect for mixed enclosures and can live with capybaras, tapirs, anteaters, maybe the maned wolf?

Better choices? Totally, but we shouldn't dismiss the rhea either as wasted

Of course, I have nothing against the rhea per se and would not say no to it if we could have all the animals in the world. But given we only have a few DLCs left and probably not a lot of birds in them, I think there are far better choices than another ratite that looks quite like the ones we already have.

I think the best habitat bird we could get would be the Victoria Crowned Pigeon. It can fly, but rarely does, and is mainly ground-dwelling (similar to Indian Peafowl). They are a main feature of most zoo’s tropical houses, and are colourful enough to garner lots of attention.
Of all the possible habitat birds we could get with the current mechanics, Victoria Crowned Pigeons would be top of my list.

True, but with the new walk-in exhibits there could still be a decent mix of things going on, and while sharks and dolphins and seals are clearly different to us, the majority of people classify them as just "swimming things" or "fish" which tells me that either people with more animal knowledge are the main audience or people without animal knowledge don't actually care if they recognize a species as long as it has some coolness factor.

I could see some kind of split habitat/exhibit model -

Habitat -
1. Shoebill. Well known from memes
2. Secretary Bird. Zt2 nostalgia
3. Duck/Swan. Recognizable and versatile
4. Grey crowned crane. Highly requested and uses red crowned rig
5. Some kind of pheasant/turkey. Uses peacock rig and pads diversity

WE
6. Macaw. Recognizable and colorful
7. Some type of owl. Recognizable, and would be an insta buy for a certain segment of the population
8. Wildcard. Another bird of prey? A different parrot? Something left field like a dove or puffin?

If the birds are different colors and sizes, people will parse them as being diverse.

I would think rainbow lorikeets or something like a similar iconic walkthrough aviary bird would fit best for the wildcard slot. Add a guest feeding enrichment for a cool addition

Anyway, I'm starting to think it will actually be a domestic/children's/petting zoo pack in the sense that Frontier, as with the Arctic Pack (Christmas) and the Twilight Pack (Halloween) has an opportunity to capitalize on both Easter and the Chinese zodiac by headlining with a rabbit. Other three habitat animals would probably be a goat, chicken (eggs), and either a cow or donkey or pony--candidates for exhibit would again be budgies and honeybees.
