Spring dlc Speculation 2023

Hares are NOT the wild variant of rabbits (which are pictured here). They are two totally different species with totally different needs and totally different representation in a zoo. Hares are actually very rare in zoos and you would never ever see them in a petting zoo, as they get stressed out extremly quick and they're even hard to keep in zoos.
Sorry, but it bugs me that these two often gets confused, as it's harming both of them, especially regarding awareness of conservation.

That said, personally I see having domestic rabbits in a children section (meaning if they can be pet and touched) as animal cruelty. Same with guinea pigs. They don't belong in kids rooms and they don't belong anywhere were they are constantly touched and chased and whatnot.
And as a huge Pippi Longstocking fan I absoluiely cringe when squirrel monkeys are only associated with that, tbh. Though those days are loooong gone, but that and german tv series like "Unser Charlie"or international series like "Daktari" were never good for primates and in some cases encouraged illegal pet trades.

I'm not the biggest fan of a childrens zoo pack in general , or a farm pack for that matter, but if we get one, I'd really appreciate picks that do okay-ish in children zoos. Dwarf goats, Alpacas, domestic Sheeps might all be an option. If we take education into account, old farm animal breeds that are threatened by extinction would be even better, if we use them to explain why the current farm industry is a problem.
I know that... but I don't care if I get hares or bunnies, I'd like one of them for the game. I know that bunnies are different from hares.

But children's zoos are different from the petting zoos we know. They are used for information, for learning and education. Nobody would want to pet a porcupine. 😂 The same with the rabbits and pygmy goats. I have guinea pigs myself and I know they don't like being touched.

I can only shake my head at that. If you don't like the pack, that's up to you, but tearing each of my suggested animals apart over trifles seems presumptuous. (It's not meant to be mean or aggressive)
I chose the animals for their versatility and cuteness and I think they fit well with a theme like this.

I agree with you on the last sentence, but old farm breed animals are not super common, especialy in zoos. What are you going to take?

Mangalica?

I know you have guinea pigs and I haven't taken the pack apart. It's called discussion. In a public forum, where probably not everyone knows that guinea pigs don'l like being touched, hares are not rabbits (though there was no way for me to know YOU know the difference when you specifically state them as the wild counterparts and using a rabbit photo) and "children zoos" are not "petting zoos". I won't get into detail as to how artificial I even think the differenciation is.
I won't ptopose any farm animal pack, as I don't want one. There's a "good" chance we only got a maximum of 4 packs left, personally I thunk every farm pack, petting zoo pack or similar are a waste of a slot.

Under your house?
Somehow, this also sounds so ominous...

Heavy breathing
Random guy, "Uh, Quell, you ever get the feeling you're being watched by some unknown creature that wants to eat you?"
Quell, "Sometimes.... I also tend to hear heavy breathing, but it's probably the wind or a bird"
Echidna, "They're mine" deep breathe "all mine..."

And to me, all those cats and dogs and bears that are suggested are wasted slots. Besides, i don't quite understand the reasoning when the pack contains a completely new animal (rabbit), a monkey and the porcupine. I just built a theme around it, which "could" work for me. 🤷‍♀️
But in the end what we get is not in our hands anyway, so no reason to have a heated discussion about it. :D After all, it's not like I'm giving out the Packs ;)

There was no heated discussion. "Personally" is what it is. Personally preference. I just answered to the question "What are you going to take?", following an old farm animal example, and the answer is, I wouldn't take any farm animal.
I never argued against the porcupine and squirrel monkey as a slot, by the way. That was your interpretation. Both are on my meta wishlist, IIRC.

OH! I'm sorry. I missunderstood  next time I better use the translator instead of trusting my modest knowledge of english. I'll put myself in the "shame on you" corner.

Imo i love the idear of an children zoo pack as it would be able to add 4 of the most important things the game is lacking, Domestics, Primates, Reptiles and Birds, aswell as some more general purpose building pieces or maybe even educational themed ones?
My personal roster would be the african dwarf goat, any new tortoise with the african spurred tortoise feeling the most likly, as its more on theme then the radiated or leopard tortoise and is more likly as an habitat animal then the greek tortoise, but comeone id love a small tortoise in the game so id pick the greek/hermanns tortoise, a new primate with squirrel monkey being quite the perfect choice, any common walkthrough aviary bird, with budgies or rainbowlorikeets easily fighting for the top spot and lastly a wild card pick that could be anything from a coati to a second mongoose, a pelican, a porcupine or my favorite the scottish highland cattle, dromedary or domestic yak so that we can add a larger animal into the mix.

What makes these smaller tortoises less thematically appropriate? At my local zoo, the radiated tortoises are in the children's zoo while the African spurred are housed with the Aldabras in another part of the zoo.
Its less that they are less thematically appropriate, but more that a walkthrough or even free roaming african spurred tortoise are propaply as on theme as you can get. You sadly couldnt do that with greek or especally radiated tortoises for the danger of stepping on them or stealing them.
But yes all 3 would work in such a pack quite nicly.
Oh and with the greek tortoise its not that they are less thematically appropriate but that i do not trust frontier regarding actually making them habitat animals

Ah I see. The radiated tortoises in the children's zoo are non-contact, so that makes sense.

Echidna would be agreat addition for an island dlc. But I have a feeling most of the choices I see for island dlcs are around australia.
  • Echidna
  • Tasmanian Devil
  • Kiwi
  • Fossa

Outside of Fossa, most of these are ocenian creatures. Tasmanian Devil would work in a woodland pack or an endangered species pack (yeah we have conservation, but one focused in most endangered species without a theme building)

i love the shortbeaked echidna with a passion, but thats the one pack i actually dont want to see them in, as imo its the one with the most to give and that will have the most oceanian animals anyways. Id rather have them in another pack that otherwise would see australia come out short like ironically a desert pack for example

Still disappoints me marine animals are never suggested for island packs
