Thargoid Attacks: Where, When and What you can do about it

mmmmmmmmmmm
MMMMMMMMMMMMM
Well.... You mean thargoids strike galnet article, which was released in 2 days AFTER(!!!!) moment, when we have cleared incursions?
Now there another trouble, thargoids striked for one week and retreat again?
Sorry, Stephen, but you didn't clarify anything
Well, with any luck, the Thargoids have binned their weekly planner and are rolling dice instead. (y)

Greetings Commanders,

We have noticed some confusion around the most recent Thargoid Incursions and when they were suppose to appear. Typically (but not always), Eagle Eyes will alert players to potential Thargoid Incursion targets, warning commanders of a potential incoming threat. These signals follow Thargoid movements, and attempt to decipher where the Thargoids will strike next. In most cases, these attacks usually happen one week after new Eagle Eye signals appear. However, as we saw in Monday's GalNet article, sometimes these attacks can come as a surprise and not always in a week's time.

We hope that clarifies any confusion around the most recent Incursions. Good luck, and keep up the fight against these encroachers!

Intriguing, so does it mean that infestations (i.e., state pre-incursions) are longer or that they don't exist anymore? And since you still need to alter the station models for attacks, I guess that "surprise" still means on thursdays? :)

Sooo basically, "Eagle Eye does a certain job, but we're going to do whatever we want anyway. F*** the lore."

While I understand that thinking, it's already difficult-if-not-impossible to defend systems, given that even when Eagle Eye was identifying them, the supercruise distance/time to get to the few scout instances was prohibitive. Combine that with six potential targets and we get to where we were just burning 6 stations per week, and doing so far faster than we could repair them.

Also, repairing the Pleiades again? For the third time now, it's getting repetitive. Adding in a sneak attack (the last one was a result of a double-attack, so there was not even an opportunity to defend) and now you're just burning stations and hoping that a bunch of long-range hauling is compelling gameplay.

The gameplay here feels unbalanced. If we're supposed to be losing, per the narrative, at least give us some way of bolstering defense or losing more slowly. Getting steamrolled by Thargoids and just having to slowly fix stations that we want because the game mechanics don't allow for a good defense isn't fun or compelling. And, at the end of the day, aren't games supposed to be fun?

What confuses me the most, is Commanders are burning through wave after wave of Thargoid ships, we've even taken some land off of them, but they haven't run out of ships yet. If this happened to humanity, we wouldn't be able to recover, but they can. I get it's for 'gameplay' reasons, but it still seems silly.

They grow on trees, we have to build ours ;)

Those ships we destroy are basically nothing for the Thargoids, they don't even care. As a millions of years old species, they probably have some toys that we can't even imagine.

As far as Lore is concerned, I do wish that something had appeared in Galnet saying that the Thargoids had adapted and that the Eagle Eye Network wasn't as reliable as it was. As far as Gameplay is concerned, excellent move. This kind of random incursion is good because the AXI/HIVE are too good at stopping the thargoids at infestation stage.

More AX CZ opportunities please, but bearing in mind, AX combat and Station rescue seems to be much more popular than repairing stations.
Balance.
Perhaps dangling a bigger carrot for repairing stations. 🤷‍♀️

Its not the size of the carrot its having to drag it to and from the station twenty to thirty times per required material even in a 700 cargo capacity cutter, one damaged station is a huge task even for a PMF. A solo player would probably need months unless they really did some grinding.

You go from exciting dog fighting against the evil tharguloptic menace to bravely pulling the refugee's out of a burning station to repetitive delivery of umpteen loads of the same old poop from and to the same old places, which frankly is less fun for non-space truckers.

Lower the amounts needed a bit.

Eagle Eye was never reliable - this is the system with weeks of Xeno 55 and 6 months just ended of pointing at empty systems. It just points out concentrations of Thargoids, it was us CMDRs putting timing expectations in things happening. Fdev are staying well within the lore on this one.

Nice move indeed - but will make no difference - those who watch for these changes will still see them first, because they look. Having them start nearer the weekend would give others half a chance, but I'm not sure fdev would want to be making changes on Friday ;)

Months ago I proposed that rescues could reduce the commodities needed afterwards as well as giving those doing rescues targets to aim at, or at least give us some indication that they were doing something. AX have conflict zones to defeat, repairs have targets to deliver but rescues have nothing to indicate their effect at all. It was completely ignored.

Thargoid BGS questions.

If you burn down barnacles, do Thargoids go into a famine state?

If Thargoids are infected with mycoid, do they go into outbreak state?

If Thargoids are utterly annihilated in CZs do they go into retreat state?

If Thargoids saturate a system with NHSS do they go into bankruptcy?

If a Thargoid scavenger spits in the woods does any one care?
