Thargoid Attacks: Where, When and What you can do about it

Bowman Class Science Vessel HAL-6771 has interesting ship uplink. Dalfur 10

Sounds a bit like a trap "You knew they'd come looking for this thing..."

What thing? Are they luring 'goids? Mind boggles (a tiny bit). Don't have the right drones to search this thing completely. Maybe later...
Sounds like a Thargoid probe or sensor, re 'weird noises'.

But I don't think that's what's luring Thargoids into new systems, if that's what's happening.

That's Aegis' doing with those signalling beacons, hence why the stations get hit. For some reason, captains of megaships are luring Thargoids into attacking their ships too, perhaps to make them seem more aggressive than they otherwise would be?

Advice on where to go:

Based on Traffic Stats:

Advice: Support Dalfur

Current estimates say we will win both. Dalfur looks more marginal, but LTT had a 'natural traffic level' of 60/day, so probably has less support than it seems.

Based on EDMC Data:

pubchart

Note:
* EDMC data is a smaller sample of CMDRs - check thread if you want to contribute (requires EDMC / PC only)
* Traffic stats cover all CMDRs and have been a better predictor in previous weeks. Underlying data here. This week is more challenging as LTT has a naturally higher level of traffic, so it's possible that not all the traffic is defending the system.

You can find Massacre missions on the Aegis Megaships which are nearby - these might contribute to saving the systems, we do not know. Acropolis is in Vanir, Vanguard is in Aongi. Aongi might help Dalfur, Vanir might help LTT. Either is better than nothing, probably!

Unless you know which page, I'm not looking through 22 pages :p;), anyway, from what I recall atm you've got it back to front, Aegis are flagging which systems are the next targets, not putting a bulls eye on them for Thargoids to choose to target, & if you have proof to the contrary then link me up :) (or at least give me a page no.). Re megaships, how do you know that? Ship's logs?

I don't think we can base such theories on the ramblings of one crew member who had just come face to face with hostile Thargoids and was probably thinking irrationally. Although by the sounds of many of the logs, some of the attacked ships were carrying Thargoid items, which couldn't have helped.

Advice: Do what you like :)

Current estimates say we will win both, even if we stop fighting now (but don't do that :) ). Dalfur actually had more traffic than LTT yesterday for the first time, despite LTT having a higher 'base' level of traffic.

Note:
  • EDMC data is a smaller sample of CMDRs (< 7%) than the traffic stats (100%), so can be biased...
  • ... though players showing in traffic may not be fighting 'goids

Probably better think twice about those AX missions, they're rather bugged and payouts are meh (600-750k, you still get an additional 2M for the Cyclops, though). Most times you drop into a 'mission' NHSS 5 just to find out there's no Cyclops in them but an array of damaged ships + 1 canister in green clouds instead that ofc mass lock you. Boost, boost, boost, lo-wake, fly around the planet waiting for next NHSS 5 to appear, same results, rinse and repeat, 5-10 iterations at least. Spent two evenings doing this over and over again, in two different systems and doing different missions (Cyclops or generic Interceptor makes no difference) for different factions. Met 2 Cyclops in total that finally saw me in enraged mode (missions issued by the Vanguard here). Gone are the days where you just dropped into a NHSS 5 and there it was. But then, better than the week before where 'mission' NHSS 5 could mean everything from Medusa to Cyclops to empty. FD confirmed they'll have a look into this.

Didn't try Scout missions which are also available, but a friend of mine reported similar results. It's probably better to just park at Aquila Station and hunt directly in that system.

Bonus charts showing ship breakdowns over this week - looks like the Anti-Xeno ships recently introduced haven't taken over, though Chieftain has some traction.

O7,
[noob]

I've had a different experience, especially with the scout missions. I've been running off the Vangaurd (Good place to take water to BTW) and only been taking on thargoid scout missions. Normally, I end up making a loss against scouts but with the mission payouts being 250,000 to 300,000 Cr. I'm finally making some money back while also enjoying bug bashing. Having scanned the relevant nav beacon, I've always found the right USS. However, there hasn't been any missions in Dalfur, so I guess my kills don't contribute to the defence total for the system (That's something I'd like to see change).

But so far so good.

I’ve been blasting scouts in Dalfur during the shakedown cruise of my new AX Anaconda, but there are no interceptors to be found. Dropped into an NHSS-6 hoping for a Basilisk, but only got more scouts.

Have all the interceptors run off, or is RNGesus mad at me?

You can find interceptors all all types at the megaship at planet 10 (can't remember off the top of my head but details are a few pages back in thread). Advantage is you don't get scouts and interceptors - just the interceptors. You may need to relog a few times - if you see ambulance ships then they don't show up. If you just see canister and escape pods - get ready! I've seen cyclops, basilisk and medusas there. Just relog to find the one you want

Good luck o7

That did the trick! Thanks.

Sadly, it didn’t end the way I’d planned (I only got 3 hearts before I had to limp away with 11% hull). I guess 2900 hull isn’t quite enough. Back to Kuk, wearing the hat of shame.

Hey, you tried. No shame in that at all.

Next time you’ll do better. It takes a few goes to get used to the movements, when to close in, when to back off. You were nearly there. When I first started on these things I used to blaze away and thought “this is impossible, it’s never gonna happen” Then one day it just clicks, and you’ll never look back.😁

Hang in there

I'm on the Aegis Vanguard but not a single mission (same as yesterday). Anywhere else I can find missions? or will I have to wait untill tomorrow / when the ship moves?

Aegis ships have their flight plans - looks like we saved both systems this week again

Acropolis -> Coquim - 91 Ly from Sol
Vanguard -> LHS 1453 : 74 Ly from Sol

I’ve solo’d 3 Cyclopses in my T-10 back out in the Pleiades, but it has much tougher armor than my Anaconda does (something I’m trying to rectify). It doesn’t help that I keep forgetting about the shutdown pulse until it’s too late.

Your kind words are appreciated, though. :)

My bad - sorry. There I go making assumptions :D

I haven't tried the T10 yet, never really had the urge but some seem to swear by it. Maybe one day, if just for the awesome spoiler! (grabs coat, exits stage left with great haste);)
