Thargoid Attacks: Where, When and What you can do about it

What thargoids appear at those places? Scouts, interceptors, or both? I'm heading there as soon as I'm able but I figure I should ask if it's known right now.

Definitely scouts, at least 1 has NHSS8 etc, so presuming interceptors - srry, not sure which

Went looking for trouble in Tembala this evening. Found out a few things.

  1. The Krait is great if you're fighting those little marauders. Still a good chance you'll survive as a single player.
  2. As you arrive in the "threat 7" area, hitting '3' to select the "deploy fighter" isn't the best time to do that. As you move the highlighted bar to the "deploy" setting you've taken 4 or 5 shots from the attackers (shield attack or hull/canopy breach attack). By the time you've gotten your view back to normal you're already in trouble.
  3. Turrets are great. Especially the AX weapons.
  4. If that huge Medusa starts coming into your instance, you should have left 10 seconds ago. Handed my butt to me on a silver platter.
  5. Searching for a multi-crew comes up empty.
  6. As much as I shy away from other 'human' contact in open, I was actively seeking other bug hunters this evening. None to be found. [where is it]
  7. 40,000 and 50,000 for killing a bunch of them seems a lot of work considering the damage you take (flying through bug splatter) and general hull repair needed.
  8. I suck at fighting a single Medusa. Worse if there's still more than two marauders.
  9. I love the coffee machine on the bridge.
  10. Experience is the best teacher in the Universe. It is a shame that it tends to kill off all of its students.

Edit: Corrected "Cyclops" to "Medusa" - had the names wrong.

So, for the first time, I “seriously” took part in a system defense against Thargoids.
I got my self some Guardian blueprints, a second Krait, outfitted her (2 large AX multi cannons, large Guardian plasma launcher and a gauss cannon) and headed towards Tembala.

I tried my best; so far, I could destroyed about 150 scouts. I don’t know, whether or not this is the adequate ammount for the usual defense attempt.

My question: Is there any way to evaluate our success? I didn’t see many other commanders patrolling the system. It is a nice one; it would be a shame to see another station burn. So I could simply continue popping scouts.
On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind to focus my attention to some other activities (there is still some engineering to do, some materials to be gathered, some money to be earned ...)

As I assume the answer is: “No, there is no way to tell the defense status” ... wouldn’t it be nice to know about it?

There are progress bars for CGs, superpower ranking and faction influence, so this wouldn’t be alien to the game.
But I don’t want to propose something “gamey” like this.
However, couldn’t the distribution of NHSS’s change according to the defender’s efforts? Couldn’t a decreasing rate of high level signal sources and an increasing ammount of low level sources indicate the defenders’ success?

There wouldn’t be a 100% reliable indication, but if all we could find in a systems after one hour of search are those measly threat level 3 NHSS’s, we would know that “Yes, we have done it! Time to move on!” and fly somewhere else in order to defend humanity.

We know success is related to number of kills - FD said that at Lavecon, but as stated we have no way of knowing what that number is, or when we hit it.

Only way I've found that seems predictive is based on traffic numbers in the systems (from starport traffic reports) - if we have more than around 70 fighting ships / day in a system it tends to be ok, less than 40 it gets attacked.

As all the recent systems are in the bubble, and we have been getting the message out, they have all been getting enough traffic to be won (so, no new attacked starports for a while).

If the traffic numbers are > 100 total then just walk away, it'll be fine. This time tomorrow FD will have worked out the numbers, so no point after today anyway.

Hopefully sometime soon Aegis will get their act together and start posting to Galnet.

Thanks, commander!
The info about traffic numbers is quite useful!

Are there any “target kill counts” a serious participant shoud try to achieve? After all, 70 fighting ships don’t mean much, if each of them just hopps into one threat 4 NHSS and then leaves.

Edit: Doesn’t matter anyway. Just got destroyed by a FdL (griefer or Thargoid lover; doesn’t really matter) who “joined” me in a threat 4 NHSS. I don’t care about the credits, but lost my elite (since two days) SLF pilot, ‘Sara Scott’; loved her name, loved her looks. Hoped, I could see her beside me in my cockpit some day. I have a sad now and am done for today. RIP, Sara.

He he, I know Factabulous already responded but here's an easy way to asses if you're doing good or not:

Did you survive? Yes.
Did the repair cost on your ship exceed the rewards you received for destroying them? No.

From a reliable source - Flight Plans show Aegis ship jumps for tomorrow as :
* The Vanguard is headed to HIP 44811.
* Acropolis is headed to Wolf 636.

Kinda implies we may have lost Tembala as the associated Aegis ship moves closer to Sol, but who knows ;)

Tembala confirmed hit

Just landed on the rescue ship. Interesting details, maybe: the ruling faction is the "Orange Society" which was unknown so far. They develop most sophisticated modern technology and explore the "secrets of space". Tembala could be another step to close in on the whole bubble and is placed in a region from where many start their journey to Colonia. Tembala 7 is an Ammo world.

Ammo like 20 mike mike (bullets?) or ammo like the chemical NH3?

It's a player faction though. I don't think it will be story relevant.
