Thargoid Data Gathering Effort: We need your help!

Interesting, so no hyperdictions have taken place in planet-less systems?

On a different note, I thought I might have just beaten my previous record for an NHSS from Merope at 148.88 LYs, but nope, turns out that is exactly what my record is anyway! lol

I don't know if the correlation is reversible, or it it happens in every barnacle system, I just know that hes mentioned the correlation. The ones he found the other day were because he went back to the system he got hyperdicted in, for example.

EDIT: PanPiper has noted a few times that Hyperdictions often occur in system with Barnacles. When he gets Hyperdicted, if there's no Barnacles recorded in that system, he checks and often (maybe always) finds barnacles there.

Interesting so I guess we should cross reference our hyperdiction data with Barnacle sites and go looking for either. I should be able to integrate the barnacle data into the patrol quite easilly.

@LCU No Fool and other potential searchers of Merope 5C

Have you checked out the EDISON navigation tool? Was just browsing the forums & found this. Looks like you can setup around 10 waypoints & this helps you fly between them, with voice announcements to help keep your eyes on the terrain.

Unfortunately its not comptible with my screenshot software.

EDIT: Actually it isn't entirely becasause unconverted screenshots can be left behind

Congratulations to Fuchsnase for logging the 1000th NHSS at HIP 24869 on the 6th November.

We haven't quite hit 1000 NHSS through the EDMC plugin but aren't far off it now.

Lol, I've just discovered I've already replied to that thread, but I'd totally forgotten about it!

Anything that helps with surface navigation markers/waypoints for organised grid search etc could be worth a try. There was also a suggestion a while ago that Trade Computer Extension mk2 could help with surface waypoints but I didn’t check that. The problem I see with EDISON is that it conducts OCR on screenshots (manual or automatically taken) to get the lat/long/altitude values and there seems to have been a problem with 4k monitors ( I treated myself to the other week) & I dont know if its been fixed yet; I also use Screenshot Saver app to convert and rename my pix/videos and move to appropriate system-named folders, not sure how that and EDISON would coexist since you’d really want EDiSON to automatically delete the shots to avoid cluttering the disc. Might try a pm & ask the EDiSON dev.

There is a new GalNet article, which features this interesting tidbit... could it be, that the middle ring (that is what's different on the Basilisks) indicate their age?

Excerpt: “The Basilisk hits harder than the Cyclops, and it’s tougher too. It also deploys a denser swarm of Thargons. Interestingly, all the Basilisks we’ve encountered are heavily scarred, almost as if they’ve been around longer, taken more punishment.”

Just a thought, and an unlikely scenario at best. What if ... the barnacles are some kind of broadcasting device, and the thargoid ships merely the engineers sent out to fix the problem of a disrupted communications network?

The journal entry when scanning a barnacle is Unknown Settlement. I'm wondering if they are incubators for baby Thargoids and the ships visiting are like mama bird puking food on the babies. Or maybe the barnacles are the surface parts of a vast termite like structure under the surface?

Has anyone tried using Jumponium in the the systems where we are seeing Hyperdictions?

I'm wondering if it will draw more attention.

What are you using for screenshots? I use ScreenShot Saver to convert to jpg and also rename screenshot pix and videos. I’ve pm’d the dev a couple of questions, & might have a play around with it when I’ve got time.

Alright, time to report on my little NHSS6 adventure. My goal was to find a NHSS6 with a Basilisk and a freefloating Thargoid Sensor. I hypothesized that the TS would be chittering the Morse of the Basilisk because I was never going to come within 1000m of it. My thinking was that the Basilisk starts within 1000m of the TS, and therefore the TS would choose to spam the wireframe code of the Basilisk.

Upon entering the NHSS6 I came to a full stop. I was something like 1.7km away from the TS. As the Basilisk made its way to me, I dropped 54 slaves from my cargo hold to keep it distracted. Using the external camera, I zoomed in to the spot of the TS and recorded its chittering with Audacity.

I was happily recording audio until I started hearing the slave capsules blow up and expiring. I guess that happened because they have a 5-6 lifespan in vacuum. The Basilisk got mad as hell and decided to come after me! I tried running away but it caught up to me and slowly killed me. I was in an engineered Python with good shields, armor, and engines...but that didn't matter in the end.

After decoding the audacity audio I found that the TS was just spamming the morse code of my Python eventhough I never came within 1000m of it. I can conclude that the TS doesn't care about Thargoid ships, just non-Thargoid ones. I don't think we'll ever capture the wireframe of a Thargoid vessel.

I'm using a plugin I wtote of course :)

EDMC-Screenshot

Converts to png
Renames files to SystemName (Body).png
It can optionally move the files to a different output directory
Optionally delete the original file
Optionally organise files into subdirectories by system

I have other things planned for it. I have a version that displays a thumbnail and a crop of the thargoid glyph from the contacts screen but its nowhere near ready for general use as it only works with my screen resolution and fov. I'd ultimately like to be able to have lots of different standard crops to choose from.

Might be a bug, it’s not unknown (pun intended). Raise a bug report and tell us what the response is, it might be intentional behaviour or not

Maligno
My Python has G4 DD thrusters & boosts to ~445 m/s, it isn't anywhere near fast enough to out run interceptors, so it's not surprising you couldn't out run a Basilisk. I saw in 1 of the threads that a cmdr in an FDL boosting to 530 wasn't able to out run them! (or just barely, can't recall exactly).
How come you didn't hyperspace out once clear of the green cloud?

She said in that thread their is an option to auto delete shots :)

What's OCR??
