Docking pooter warning @ smaller stations

i just about lost the farm tonight
had 3m in combat bounties in my vulture

approached an outpost and though i'll let the DC take it in

It turned and flew straight down at the pad (like it was a letterbox)
I pulled away at the last second at 90 m/s
let it do it a second and third time

yup ... thats bugged its a platform not a letterbox to fly through

I was at Timberalis at one of the outposts

I agree the letterbox docking is much better but the smaller stations turn it off

Pooter! How on Earth did that pass the censors? :)

maybe I'm misreading what you're saying.. but you know the DC dives nose first to dock at outposts now, right? Or at least it does for the Python.

I was docking at an outpost station about a week ago. As i was lining up for my landing pad I noticed a small pad also lit up. Nothing unusual in that, I've noticed that an AI quite often docks at the same time as a player.
However, on this occasion an AI Sidewinder went nose first into it's landing pad at considerable speed !
It bounced off and then I lost sight of it, so I don't know what it did after that.
I hadn't seen AI behaving like that before or since, so I put it down to a one off bug.
But I believe the docking computer uses the same code as AI's use for docking.

[v1.3.6] [PC] Docking computer over shooting in one direction Antal/Wagner Gateway

Impact on game: minor
Version Found: PC 1.3
Frequency: once
Time and date of issue: 11.30pm 28th june
Commander name: Pinger
Description:

I have been doing the trading CG in Antal all day and have had no issues with the docking computer until recently when I am coming from a different direction in my Python to the Wagner Gateway outpost. The DC comes too close and has hit a part of the station once so far, luckily my shields took the hit but a nasty surprise.

I tried to recreate the hit but couldn't but was close during the attempt. At 32 seconds in to the capture is about when it happened before.

docking computer

ive used auto docking, for about 500 docks now i would say, and recently, my docking computer landed me perfectly, however, when it was above the landing pad, it suddenly and violently flipped my ship and landed me backwards..... ive never had a problem, and im glad i ran into this as it made me laugh

Maybe it's trying to hint that the AutoDock has no place on a Vulture of all things... :p

i hadnt used for some time it was turned off

nostalgic reasons I have one

in the olden days docking with the original elite and a keyboard was a nighmare

its on the naughty step now having a think

i didnt have the danglies to let in finish after 90 minutes of toil at the RES
so does it do a handbrake turn, deploy gear and land at the last second
things that make you go NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

thanks for the reply all
the AI in this new version seems much better and more of it

I also had a system sidey crash into me and it killed him
I am now a murderer ...
it seems I will have this for 6 days
I like this as it deals with crime and punishment a bit better

Well, I haven't tried with a vulture - I had it on my python for nostalgic reasons (although not much time left now to play air-conductor while listening to the music... docks too fast :D)

I can confirm that the nose-dive on outposts is perfectly safe with a Python - pulls up and corrects at the last few meters. Used it many times, no accidents (yet).

just gritted my teeth and let it finish
indeed you are all correct
she is a naughty person :)

Docking Computer .

Hi,

Sorry but I can't find the default docking computer key, could someone advise please.

Also where do I set the key assignment for the docking computer as I cannot find it in the controls.:S

You need to purchase the Standard Docking Computer from a station and put it on as an Internal Module on your ship.

Then, when you request docking for a station, a message will pop up giving you instructions on how to engage the docking computer. If you are not positioned well, it will inform you to fly towards the opening. If you are in good position, it will tell you to throttle down. Once throttled down and in good position, the DC will take over.

EDIT: If you don't want to use the DC for whatever reason, usually smuggling, just disable it on your Modules screen.

Docking computer is enabled/disabled through the right modules panel. To activate simply request docking, you must then throttle back to activate the onboard guidance. To overide the computer - Throttle up or disable in the modules panel.

Edit - Monk has the Jedi skills :)
