I smuggled 1 time i don't think its good money you almost always get scanned. You have to go full speed and that's not safe to Im sticking with normal trading

Smuggling takes a bit of practice, but after a while it's not terribly difficult to avoid scans. Some dry-practice without cargo a while, dock and undock and try avoid scans (they'll try that whether you have cargo or not).

I had no issues using Auto Dock with Outposts, in fact, out of the 50 or so times I've docked with it, the only time it tried to plow me into something solid was at one of those 2001 looking large white stations. It flew me into the edge of the rotating ring.

I would also suggest not going AFK because, if you are shot at, the Auto Dock will turn off thinking you are in combat. Thus leaving you to be eaten alive.

Also don't get too worried if it seems to be ramming you into the pad at an outpost. It will level out...... mostly....

Haven't played in a long time last time the auto dock computer would alway kill you did they ever fix that

I encountered a few quirks with mine (before I got rid of it). If damaged in battle I had it run me nose first into a space station. It also once flew me in backwards (flying backwards!) to a landing pad in a coriolis station...scary but fun at the same time.

I now do all my own landings and it's usually a blast (sometime I have a bad one but it's always fun)

The auto-dock has always worked, even in BETA .. it's just .. you know .. sometimes it would lose its mind.

"Computer, park the ship for me would you?" *stretches and puts feet on dashboard*
"I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that."
"Wait, what?"
*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOST*
*poof*

Those rampant AI's will get you every time.

AFAIK its still a bit wonky with the Imp Clipper. It sometimes almost got down to the pad and then for no reason at all, applied the right side thrusters and tried to splat me against the station. Happened about 1 in 10 dockings, and had to be ready to apply a little bit of thrust, which would deactivate the computer and then reactiviate and it would dock normally.

Also had it faceplant me at full speed into a station in an Asp due to boosting too late.

But otherwise, works perfectly... *cough*

I have one fitted to my Anaconda (my smaller ships don't), and what I do if I am in a hurry is to fly through the mail slot and then throttle back. The DC then takes over and lands at the pad. Just make sure you are fully through the slot, otherwise the DC will then hit reverse, back out of the slot, and do the whole job itself!

It's very good now, but don't go AFK. It can still glitch occasional and you never know what other commanders will do.

It seems to be fine now, I had upto a week ago always used it, when I did get a problem it always seemed due to my hotas not being set to idle correctly, once I realised and corrected that, it always docked without incident even on outposts, that's in Sidewinder through to Anaconda's.

I don't use it now as I wanted the extra space for cargo/scanner.

boost, boost, boost, throttle to zero, left panel wait for distance to hit 7.5km or lower, request docking, turn on debug. Watch the little ships flying around, look at the stars, check out the incredible detail on the station and listen to the Blue Danube.:D

in 1.4 it's even better! Except on an approach from the back side of the station, it still tries to go through it :D

This is the key to the docking computer. NEVER leave it unattended. Use it for a break so you can sit back and relax for a bit; and listen to some beautiful music. But do not get up and get coffee or visit the loo. If you're in that much need, log out and then come back when you have more time. Use the tools as intended; don't abuse nor neglect them.
