It belly flops onto the landing pad in a way that makes me wince but (so far) it hasn't wrecked the ship and I like the music & spinning.

like it so far havent had any major issues the only problem is sometimes it causes you to take slight damange on the landing too hard :p. but yeah the thing that should be improved is the moving all over the place that would be bad for those using a headset.

I'd like to revise my opinion on this.

My docking computer just went rogue on me at Dahan. No other ships around - NPC or player.

Cleared the port - then nosedived into the deck next to bay 27 - I was assigned 34.

It got to 223 speed - luckily I was looking and just managed to divert the angle enough so I only took heavy shield damage...

Ticketed - caught in on Shadowplay.

Beware with Lakon 9 - left it to dock while I was called away, came back and ship and 2mill cargo destroyed.

Don't know what happened but assume it got stuck in the slot. Could have been unrelated, of course. Message just said ship was destroyed.

But that's why we're testing :p

Due to the size of the Type 9 it's most likely that a ship was leaving while you were entering and KABOOM!!

One thing that concerns me is the Station etiquette of the NPC pilots they don't go in or out by the Green side at all they only use the middle, most uncouth!

Docking computer too slow?

My third visit to a space station using the docking computer and I get wiped out flying through the letter box. I suspect it was because the computer was faffing around, too slow moving through and another ship crashed into me. Its wasted hours of game play building up a trading pot. I won't bother with this item again. As far as I can tell there's no escape pod in this game, so why does it say eject? Just curious.

I can't face starting from scratch again. With the exception of owning a hauler for all of 5 mins, I've spent nearly ALL my time in the first ship. I won't be testing any others - it just takes too long to build up enough credits to buy them.

Don't bother with the docking computer unless its improved. Instead, save the credits to use for the pilot's insurance.

I was watching the AI try and dock, and decided there and then I would avoid docking computers at all costs.

I hope there's a version 2 of the docking computer coming out, especially since it seems to be tied to the NPCs wandering around. I didn't feel the need for one, but I really expected it to be comparable to the better pilots out there. In one video I saw the actual landing was what I was looking for, right down to the pad and perfect touch down, but it took 5 minutes to get the with some type of ship ballet outside of the port. Not acceptable.

Yeah they are painful to see in operation. Sold mine double-quick. Type 6 doesn't need one anyway, no matter how good they get.

I think I spoke too soon. Earlier today I lined up for an auto-dock at Dahan Gateway, all seemed well but then KABOOOOOM! Scratch one Sidey. Not sure what happened as I wasn't paying total attention. Either the DC ploughed me straight into the space station bulkhead, or, more likely, another ship careered into me. Sometimes a replay mode would be useful (if cars these days can have dash-cams, why not?)

Anyway form here on in I'll keep a beady eye on the DC's performance. I sincerely hope those self-park systems in some modern cars are more reliable than this :)

Docking computer are supposed to take long and be boring. Otherwise there would be no advantage of docking manually, especially small ships. Docking Computer might come in handy with big ships like the Lakon Type 9 and the Anaconda.
But yeah, the AI docking sequence needs to be fixed.

for the type 9 and anaconda i think it may be more of a hinderance, have one on my type 9 but twice it has done risky manouvers, as i dont think it takes ship size into account, but works on a generic flight pattern thats better suited to smaller ships
Think ill be switching mine off for now , i can dock just fine without it, it was just convienient not to manualy dock

Where to buy a docking computer?

I traded my Hauler for a bigger ship. Now my docking computer is gone and I was kind of used to it :)
I need one fast, so are there specific locations that sell them or is it a random spawn?

Thanks,
Antoon

I bought the DC, flew out of the station and came back in to use it. It seems there's no manual override option, i.e. if it's installed it's live.

In my Sidewinder it was broadly aligned to the letterbox, then did a spinning move at zero speed, probably going around 4 or 5 times. I can only imagine this was fine tuning the approach.

Went through at 30/40 speed. Then hung inside the station, did another ballet dance right in front of the letterbox (my fear being hit from other ships). The only fast bit was once it spotted the bay and got down very slick and quick.

I immediate sold the DC.

I'd like to be able to toggle it on/off even when installed.

I can see advantage for landing larger ships but only IF it knows it's a larger body.

If it's the same AI as the NPCs on landing then I'd not want to DC until the AI is vastly improved to stop dithering.

The other option is a 'fade to black' at 1km out, and a fade-up once on the pad, but not sure how well that works with multiplayer.

Does anyone know where to buy the docking computer after you've upgraded ships?

I purchased it for my sidewinder but since then i upgraded my ship and now i can't seem to find it anywhere.

im having the same issue, i had it on my sidewinder and upgraded to a hauler, now i can't find it for sale anywhere. what the hecks going on...?
