My fix seems to work fullscreen or window..Even i couldnt get them in a window before
EF could now have the only one with working icons if it pans out..
So far its worked on everything i have tried..

But its not up yet

Synchromesh I noted you said you could not get it working in a window *before*. Remember with my issue the icons NEVER work anywhere at all as it is a hardware problem. I'll still try it out tonight and report back. Thanks again for keeping at it. I would dearly love to play it. :)
 
Im confident it will work :)

Hardware is no longer an issue with my fix..so it should work on almost any pc or laptop..window or fullscreen

Also i incorporated the mouse fix so in fullscreen it should work fine as well :)

Hi synchromesh,

Can I just check - did you modify the source code to do this? If so, which version/revision of the source code did you modify? And are the changes only present on your own copy at the moment?

Assuming it all works correctly, can we merge those changes into the changes that Ittiz (http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showpost.php?p=67202&postcount=880) is making to fix up other bugs?
 
I've made a bit of progress on fixing up FFED3D. I've reskinned all the "living planets" so now they look different instead of just slightly different colors only visible from space. Fixed the atmosphere clipping problem (although it still appears in the intro). Of course the brown dwarf bug. If there are any specific changes or bugs you want fixed let me know. I'll probably release a test version of my build this coming week end. Don't expect huge changes just fixes, minor improvements and yes the console bug is already gone!

If anyone wants a certain mod or mods included in my build of FFED3D let me know. Atm I plan to use Potsmoke's console and targeter mods, various ship and building mods, most of nanite's texture and menu mod and my planet texture mod. I noticed there seems to be some good building mods out there I may not have, so if you know of any let me know.
 
It's still the v1.12++ binary and panel model. The fix is that the main panel image, textures\panel.png has the initial set of icons from icons0.png already included in it rather than the blank buttons. This is why they don't switch when changing the game view to the system/planetary model etc.

I think I've got all the building and ship Mods that are available for FFED3D now, and have restored some that were broken and/or missing. Additionally, I've tweaked some of my textures to look better, and re-drawn some of the remaining lo-res graphics. I was going to try and put together a 'Kitchen Sink' edition of FFED3D when it was all done that included *everything*.

I can put up my modified textures and the entire building and model collection as a ZIP for you. Only problem is I can't do it until Saturday morning. Would you be able to wait until then?
 
YAY the icons are working...... thanks Synchromesh!!!! Can you tell me exactly what you did so I can see if I can fix my older installation ? Tried replacing icons before to no avail.

@AndyJ *PLEASE* don't tell me I could have just downloaded some small files to do the fix ? :eek:

[EDIT: Yep I just tried it. I could have fixed it with a nice and small 3.5 meg file directory ahh well serves me right I should have asked exactly what was changed rather than downloading it all again. The directory you want is /panelicons it contains around 3.5 meg of files this is all you need to get most of the icons back.]

Thanks again Synchromesh the most important thing is it partially solves the problem with the exception of screen changes and different panel options.

Full screen mode still has the usual issues of having to click way under the target for it to actually register there still.

Window mode works better in this respect. :smilie:
 
If anyone needs to try out Synchromesh's changes all you need are his files from the texture directory not all 200 meg of the entire game. Specifically the panelicons directory which is only 3.5meg.

What Synchromesh did was replace HUD pictures with those with icons shown. This as another person explained already is why they don't change when you swap screens.

In full screen mode the problem that you need to click far below the actual item you want still of course remains as this was a different bug.

The files you need for the icons are around 3.5 meg. I suggested Synchromesh possibly make these available in a small ZIp to save people downloading 200 meg when they only need 3.5 meg.

Well done to Synchromesh, it is a step in the right direction...a BIG step for us poor people who can't get FFED3D working on their computers. :(

Firstly i needed to know it worked for everyone with the problem as i realised it wasnt a 100% original fix but did the job more than adequately..

So it was easier post here and just to download mine from EF rather than make up rar files with instructions etc....and alter the website to incorporate an alternative fix or workaround with explanations blah blah ....without even knowing for sure if it worked for everyone

I had to replace 3 textures in the "steve cockpit mod" and you also have to replace the original panel textures so whether you use the steve mod cockpit or original the icons still work

Sorry about your bandwidth i didnt realise....These days 200 meg takes about 30 seconds to download i tend to assume everyone has unlimited broadband... :(

Full screen works fine for me but i have left the instructions to try again yourself using the info button..

Not a problem Synchromesh. Absolutely it is a good fix.

We might be able to find somewhere to put the 3.5meg files required to get them working. 200 meg may not seem much to most I agree but 200 meg to get 3.5 meg....well................ :) but like you said you need this tested by people before anything can be done and changed. So lets see how it works for others :)

Ahh I know I can ask Geraldine to put them up on Space Sim Central in the archive there. Then people can just downlad the textures directory !! Done !!

200 meg took 30 minutes but that's not a problem either. I just need to be mindful of bandwidth but I'm in the minority. The important thing is icons mostly work :) and for that I am VERY thankful. :smilie:
