The FFED3D Thread

and excellent work you did as well.

I have a question though, surely you need 2 downloads of FFED3D.

One normal version (no sync mods) with no changes for people whose icons work, otherwise doesn't your MOD break the functionality ? ie if you install it on a system where the icons would work anyway, they won't change on screens etc.

If this is the case then you need to keep your usual V1.12b patched unmodified version and only IF the icons don't work for that person, they only need a simple 3.5meg file to and recopy their textures directory.

If your mod does not curtail operations on a machine where icons work anyway then it is a non issue.

I certainly realise your goal is to make is as PLAYABLE as possible with one click and this is utterly commendable. I think you're effects are outstanding.

The other option is
1. Have an normal 1.12b version un modified panels
2. Have the one you have now stating "If the top one does not work try this one".

This might help.

Also what do you mean re
Full screen works fine for me but i have left the instructions to try again yourself using the info button..
. You mean clicking the INFO button on the installer I already have ? I know that brings up the FFED3D readme file. If you updated it though sorry but I'd rather you told me the change here as I can't really download another 200 meg sorry. :( I am very well versed with the options in the config file when I first spent several months last year trying to get it running nicely though.

Guides for FFE ?

Hello everyone.

I was wondering if there are any sites you all know that has guides foe FFE as good as those from http://www.sharoma.com/frontierverse/

I have searched and found lots but never any quite as good as the Sharoma resources. Also there are very few vids on Youtube unfortauntely.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There's one I used from GameFAQs (by Jeroen van Drongelen and Graham Thurlwell)years ago - 102k of basic text, but it does cover all the story based stuff and more (I still keep the FFE board there ticking over)

Now i know so far its a working workaround i will have to consider what you have said about having 2 versions or a downloadble fix

with the original the downside for me is...you will never ever see the icons in a window mode with the original unless serious coding is redone to the game
whereas you can with the workaround....

The second thing is ... the icons are bloody confusing switching on and off i always hated that...but the glow on the usable icons still show on the fix showing what you can click instead of blanking out totally or swapping which for me was pointless...but thats just me

Elite forever was a meg in size originally ...Now its over a gig and climbing...truth is is another £50 to ugrade which i havent got spare at the moment so looks like im gonna have to make a downloadable fix as an option i think...

Even so thanks Styggron for the info / feedback....gonna look at modifying my launcher so perhaps you have a choice of version from the menu...and maybe fullscreen and window selections :)

PS... The mouse fix in fullscreen is what im talking about on the info button...second half of page....I meant you can try it again yourself ...sometimes doing it on your own machine may recify that ..

Well it's really good that a single, accessible package has been put together, and one which pushes newcomers towards legitimately obtaining the shareware release from FD for the additional video content. And of course hopefully there may soon be a functional executable that doesn't need the image fudge ;)

It is an excellent partial workaround :)

Ummm no not quite. Remember the icons DO work well for many people so as I mentioned this will stop that functionality so you definitely need 2.

Some like it some won't. :)

We all GREATLY appreciate that Synchromesh. You made those one click installs FAR more accessible to people that may not have otherwise tried.

I have just finished uploading the RAR file with a README on Space Sim Central. It is available here. http://spacesimcentral.com/ssc/files/file/988-ffed3d-panel-icons-partialworkaround/ .

I of course fully credited Synchromesh and his site. :)

That would be even MORE mega awesome !

Using F12 and Full screen modes never worked for me unfortuantely irrespective of the resolutions I try.

I've put up a new copy of my texture pack with some updated textures. I've greyscaled the grass and water so they now match the intended colour schemes of living planets. I've also tweaked some of the hull plating textures.

The (512 pixel) texture pack is available here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?ou059n0650yoo3g

(Let me know if you want a copy of the higher resolution 1024 pixel pack).

And every redrawn building/ship model available for the game is available for download here:

Update screenshots here: http://s665.beta.photobucket.com/user/nanite2000/library/FFED3D

Let me know if those are OK for you, and if you need me to supply anything else.

PS - Tangerine Dream and Brian Eno make great background music for space flight sequences yo!

There are FAR more resources on FE2. Again I was surprised even on youtube there is hardly anything at all, I thought there would be an extensive Let's Play but nope. Lots on FE2 though

Sharoma for me is one of the best ones for FE2. http://www.sharoma.com/frontierverse/

I'll keep looking for FFE.
Essentially I was just looking for a trade how to start, what to buy and where to fly to start up. I'll go through Jades I know they have a little bit of that.

Anyone know what revision is the one the people currently use? I've downloaded and compiled half a dozen different revisions, but all the planets look frigged.

Ittiz do you have a better version compiled than 1.12b ?? I'd love to try as 1.12b was the last one released I can find anywhere. I'm desperate to try any newer version incase the dreaded icons might work

Oolite Vs FEE/Russian Mod remake

I'm currently playing Oolite with quite a few OXP's right now and I'm having a blast, I just want to know how the FEE/Russian Mod remake stand up against Oolite.

"Simple Q&A"

Well it's a question of Frontier vs Elite. And not neccesarily graphics. The combat gameplay is quite different and so you have to take both at each's merit. An amended FFE/D3D will certainly look pretty enough, but Elite's combat is so much more 'appropriate' and rewarding . But then in Elite, you're really on your own and can't join the wider story and hit the tabloids!

I'll look at the links, as for the living planet texture I already made a bunch of full color ones and programmed the game to use them properly. The proper code for the grey texture maps had been removed awhile ago so they appeared almost completely grey on the ground. I've pretty much got my version to a point that I can release a beta of it. The visuals are a bit bugged especially the atmospheres which I programmed from scratch. I'll dig around the links clean up the folders and zip up a copy for you guys to look at.

Oh wow! The potential possibilities for having a unique texture for each planet type would be great. Imagine - a desert planet with proper sand!

:)

By the way, I don't know if you know already, but the default planet type for Earth is wrong (see this post). Can you correct it in the updated code?

While that may be the case Oolite OXP's allow graphics to be enhanced

Your right about combat

Got to add that its a relaxing game I post here in between skimming and traveling

OK, so below is a link to download my build of FFED3D. I'm doing it as a torrent since it's so freaking huge. If you don't have a torrent program search for something like utorrent. Here's the link http://daein.delectual.com/FFED3D-Ittiz-Beta1.zip.torrent If someone doesn't mind hosting a 670 meg file on their server let me know. Again I'm not done with this but it's at a point where it's playable. Let me know what you guys think.

Oh yeah once you get the file please keep seeding till everyone that wants it has it.

TD, yes! Not sure about Eno though; more of a Klaus Schulze man myself

Why is the download so big? Have you included the videos? I'm very interested in this, but I'd much prefer a zip file of your re-coded exe file plus whatever else you've changed :(
