The Bloody Haze

Hello CMDR's!

I arrived at my first nebula in the galactic core regions (Map-11) on my way to the upper 1st quadrant (Map-07).
Hopefully it is a new finding.

The ingame naming is: DRYIO BLOO AA-A H310

Screenshot 01 (Map-view):
bloodyHazeMap.jpg

The dimensions are: 180 LY : 180 LY : 150 LY
The approximate center is at: -6450 : -1620 : 28,600

Screenshot 02 (View from a neighbour system):

There are naturally (as I have learned here) a huge amount of white dwarf's, neutron stars and also a few black holes.

I'd like to call it: The Bloody Haze (because of the "BLOO" in the ingame name).

The Steam Horse Nebula

Hello CMDR's!

I just arrived at my next nebula. This time in the upper 1st quadrant (Map-07).
Hopefully it is a new finding.

The ingame naming is: AIPHAISTY AA-A H3

Screenshot 01 (Map-view):
mapProveSteamHorse.jpg

The dimensions are: 120 LY : 141 LY : 116 LY
The approximate center is at: -17,779 : 169 : 34,080 (about 38,500 LY from Sol)

Screenshot 02 (View from a neighbour system):
steamHorseNebula.jpg

Screenshot 03 (View from another neighbour system):
intoSteamHorse.jpg

Screenshot 04 (Nice map-view of which i have the name for it):
MapSteamHorseNebula.jpg

I have found almost no O or B stars, only a few A and F, L, proto-stars stars, no non-sequence-stars, white dwarfs, wolf-rayet stars neither carbon stars, but much of G, K, M class stars.

I'd like to call it: The Steam Horse Nebula (because of screenshot 04).

Ok, well, it has been a while since I have posted on this thread. The primary reason for this is that it has been a while since I have stumbled across something that I have thought truly WORTHY of being enshrined here. Recently however, I did find something truly remarkable. An Ammonia giant some 6400 LS from the parent star. This solid planet is HUGE, with massive rings (weighing in at nearly a trillion metric tons) and the planet itself looks like it is made of solid gold. As such, I am naming this world KING MIDAS. In addition to looking like solid gold, this planet has about the DENSITY of solid gold as well.

I see a dark winged shape flying towards me in the last screenshot. Spooky!!

I think King Midas is stellar carthogrphic record breaker. last time i checked the ammonia world with biggest radius was 24k km, King Mida's is 27k.
The stellar cartographic record thread is sticky in the dangerous discussion forum if you want to check.

meanwhile get some rep.

Btw what's the gas giant "moon"? That's another anomaly too for sure. If it's not a water giant it's probably another record breacker, if it's a water giant you have found a increadibly beautifull system.

(this implies that if you didn't surface scan it you have to backtrack for Science!!!!!)

quoting myself rocks'!!!!
the record is 27998 km radius, King Midas loses for few hundred km.....
still impressing discovery, especially when we'll have data for the gas giant moon

My birthday present

Hello CMDR's!

At my birthday (August, 30) I surveyed this little beauty in the upper 1st quadrant (Map-07).
So to speak my birthday present from the game. ;)
As i looked to it from my cockpit, it looks a second like a birthday cake to me.

The ingame naming is: EOLLS GRAAE AA-A H31

Screenshot 01 (Map-view):
bendurionsPlaceMap.jpg

The dimensions are: 99 LY : 101 LY : 103 LY
The approximate center is at: -18,800 : -610: 30,000

I have found a few O, B, A, F, G stars; none of the L, T, Y, Proto, Carbon, Wolf-Rayet, White-Dwarf or Non-Sequence stars; but much of K and M class stars.

I'd like to call it: Bendurion's Present (I hope this is ok).

Now it is time to fly home. :)

Nice find! Adds a bit of colour to a quadrant I thought was devoid of anything interesting :)

I've been exploring the 4th quadrant and have some entries of my own to add for the next update (sadly nothing too spectacular so far).

If we don't get some exta content soon, I fear the mapping thread will fade away and be forgotten.

(hint hint Frontier Developments). ;)

Perhaps we can make our own player group, and link this to the "Ingame Stellar Cartographics".
Did you try this? :)
I would love to read in Gal-Net the latest discoveries.
And such a move would focus more players to this mapping project.
Just a thought! :D

That's an interesting idea. With minor factions coming to Elite that are player-run, a mapping focused faction would be cool. Although I think we may have to wait and see how explorer-friendly these factions are and see if its viable for a group of explorers to hold power and influence considering most of us will be away from home and out amongst the depths most of the time ;)

Update:

The Mapping Project in on hold for the moment. I'm going to revamp the maps and try and get a deeper scale of them, creating more space for entries, and adding maps for the missing outlying outer rim regions (as well as a few more additions).

Also got quite a few more of my own entries to add that I've dug up from the past.

So it may be a few weeks before I get around to updating everything and get back on track.

If you have anything spectacular or unusual to share from your journeys though, please still post them :)

Umbra Centralis Nebula: SCHEAU PRAO AA-A H401 (2500Ly from Sag A*, 25500Ly from Sol, Map 11)
This dark nebula lies in the core region, and it's very difficult to spot in the Gal Map if stars aren't filtered out. It visible from 1000Ly in the skybox as a dark bubble. The nebula itself doesn't sport any significant object, not having a single non-sequence star and beeing 1000 ly away from the closest neutron field. Nevertheless it gave me one of the most beautifull landscape i ever seen in the milky way: it gives a beautifull coloured scenario to the billion stars of the core stellar forge.

I like the idea of a mapping faction. The question is, wouldn't that basically make us universal cartographics?

Hmmm, interesting idea. :)
But i think, we are far more a freelancer mapping group, which works for universal cartographics, yet.
So perhaps we could form a fraction on this freelancer ideal, or we create a real competitor to UC.
I would like to see us more as the real "man-of-action" group, which delivers the data to UC.

Perhaps the "Erimus Gang"! ;D
Or a bit more serious, "The Galactic Mapping Corps."

Just a thought! :)

It would be nice if there was a way to record all the data in a website.

Might it not be an idea to start a Wikia page for example?

There is also this but not sure how easy it would be to make it for the massive Elite map and how easy it is for users to add data.
http://codecanyon.net/item/megazoom-image-viewer/5806901

here is a map someone made for beta with the software
http://www.edgalaxymap.com/
Think it would be massive amount of work to manually add everything
