The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

Then we're not sure why its missing. Could be a bug. The Anaconda's Graveyard vanished from time to time too, only to return.

If its not there in Odyssey, we'll probably have to archive it anyway.
That's not a bug, but absolutely normal behavior. I have reported this already in this thread (a year ago?)
This crash site is Tip Off related. So it's not permanent, but persistent one - the site is still there, but it could be observed only for two weeks out of 12. One must check the related "timetables" in order to see it again.

Sorry to necro this but I'm at this location and there's no POI.

I was at Almeida Landing and EDMC showed this:

View attachment 229698

Clicked on it and it took me here, so I came to check it out but nothing shows on the nav panel or anywhere on the surface of planet 4.

Anyone got any coordinates?
One can return and check that same site between 1/07/2021 and 14/07/2021 - according to my data it will be there ;)

Ah, thanks for clearing that up! I've added a brief description of what you said to the POI text.

Let me know if you think it needs any other info.

I'm wondering how these kinds of POIs will be handled in Odyssey, I guess if it reappears in Odyssey on 1/07/2021, its a keeper.

On the theme of missing info from Odyssey, explorers have been asked to submit any issues they're noticing in EDO to the thread linked below. Its an in-depth collation of info that the devs are monitoring. If you have anything to add to it, here's Ulon Yuanshi's thread...

In general "Tip Off" related sites are a constant source of confusion for many commanders - and at the same time quite a tricky way "to hide things" for designers (if fact this "Universe Heartbeat"-based mechanics allow to effectively enlarge 6 times the scale of already huge universe using "time"-axis approach).

There are quite a few of those locations already known - 188 recorded so far (both in the Bubble and Colonia), another ~ 30 still remain uncharted.

The exact timetables were measured approx. 2 years ago (available in the spreadsheet in my signature). However they could be potentially affected by global game updates as it was the case as the result of the previous big update - the introduction of FC's. Developers have had disabled the "Thargsday" weekly tick for the duration of approx. one month, reviving it later - but introducing a 4-week shift in all related timetables.

Another source of related confusion - this time probably "non-intended" originally - text messages from Tip Off sites are localization-depended. I.e. messages are always the same from the same site for given game client localization, but usually differ for different game client localization (they could still match but only by pure coincidence).

I've already checked some sites during alpha and just upon release of Odyssey - they are still present. Will revisit some of them later in order to test for any changes in known timetables.

I never knew much about these tbh! I've added a link to your spreadsheet too - a great insight to them there.

Thanks again (y)

FD, take Odyssey back and rework it again.
Yeah. I think I might agree. I love Elite and EDO was a great addition. I really like the experience and the missions, but there are such a huge number of issues, that if it happened to a software project I was developing, I would consider starting from scratch. Just looking at the summary thread of missing features. It's very sad to see.

I was looking forward to the genomics, but once you've seen a bunch of alien plants, scanned them and sold the data, you realise that it doesn't matter how many varieties you discover, there isn't any other associated gameplay other than going back to the genomics lab and selling the data to gain rank, rinse and repeat. If the whole idea is to just raise your genomics ranks, that's going to be a gameplay 'loop' that won't have much longevity.

7 years after release and there's still not any exploration missions in the game. Combat has them, salvage has them, trade and transport has them, there's passenger missions, and even mining missions. Exploration? Nope.
I do like the potential of the Odyssey planetary tech, but even that's surely not finished. Where are the deep mist covered canyons we have in Horizons? Do they exist in Odyssey?

Thanks for checking it out. This entry has now been archived.
Not so hasty. They are not gonna be there but almost surely they're going to exist in another part of the planet, as AFAIK, they've changed the result of the planets, not their characteristics.

I'm exploring the center of the galaxy doing the same, and I'm now Down Below (I think that was the name). It was hard to find the geysers with the new system because the coordinates changed, but they're there and I just have to wait to catch them at the time they're active.

Commanders,

Today is the first day that the explorers taking part in the Artemis Biological Survey expedition board the fleet carrier DSN Phileas Fogg in the Barathaona system to head for Veil West Sector DL-Y d68, the official expedition starting system.

One of the objectives of the Artemis Biological Survey is to discover and record as many exobiological species as possible. To achieve this, we have set up the S.I.C.R.E.B.O.G. (Système d'Information, de Collecte et de Référencement des Échantillons Biologiques, Organiques et Géologiques (or in english: Information, Collection and Referencing System for Biological, Organic and Geological Samples)).
It consists of :

1°/ A database to record (in the form of 3 Googlesheet tables) :
  • First, the list of planets with exobiological species on their surface
  • Secondly, the list of species and their different coloured variants scanned on these planets using the exobiological scanner
  • Thirdly, to take stock of the genetic data sold to Vista Genomics

2°/ A herbarium to document the appearance of the species encountered (only on the DSN discord).

3°/ A plugin for ED: Market Connector, allowing to automatically feed this database. Otherwise you can use manual data entry forms.

4°/ The list of geological POIs scanned with the ship composition scanner / srv

As always, during the expeditions organised by the Deep Space Network, we will not fail to share with the Galactic Mapping Project our most beautiful and incredible discoveries.

Cheers.

Hi. Today I bring an Odyssey update from Down Below.

First, the same place of the Horizons' picture, but in Odyssey:

Second, I started looking for the geysers on the same planet, but since they're inactive most of the time and the LOD issues in Oddyssey (I'm gonna start calling it Odd-yssey) make so difficult to find them with the Eye Mk I module, I couldn't find them. So I went to the other planets with Water geysers volcanism in the system. I finally found them in two places, but could only take a proper picture with the volcanism active in the smaller one, after checking along several hours. So here they are:
TI7vFiQ.jpg

Here I captured 3 geysers from a field that has many more. This field is at Hyphudgue JR-T d4-3 2 b: 17.442358, 73.974915

daeRFqT.png

And this place has two water ice fumaroles and one water ice geyser. Hyphudgue JR-T d4-3 2 b: -25.798893, -162.815903

By the way, according to the planets information the geysers found here and in the previous Down Below are Water ICE Geysers, not just Water geysers.

The geosite animations are poor in Odyssey, nothing like they are in Horizons. The flattened terrains speak for themselves.

Lets hope frontier can fix this DLC in the time for consoles.

Nice! Where can we get that EDMC plugin?

It will be available from this weekend (the time to finalize it) on the DSN discord.
I wanted to take a moment and mention IGAU's "ATEL-EDMC" plugin for EDMC does exactly this very thing.
The next version of EDDiscovery will also enable the ability to send genetic scan data ( along with codex data ) to IGAU.

The data is published monthly at: https://github.com/Intergalactic-Astronomical-Union/publications/blob/master/IGAU_Codex.csv

Additionally, if you send data to EDSM, you can find dump files at:
You can see some of the work one of our members does with this data at: https://edastro.com/mapcharts/codex.html
Odyssey biologicals will be plotted in the near future.

Drop me a note when you have a moment, as we'd like to help your group unify data collection efforts within Elite.
