The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

While going through my data to write down my mission-report I decided to finally submit an area in space, that I mapped extensively in mid-november 3301. Situated southwards of the core-region it essentially is a huge "stellar-forge"-cluster rich with blue and blue-white stars, encompassing several nebulae and being - as I found out - abundant with non-sequence stars at heights from 950-1250 ly above the galactic plane. It's name came to my probably already half-fried mind after thousands of hyperspace jumps, partly in one of the most lonely areas of known space, weeks after I had last seen another human being.Galmap-reference of this sector is "FROALN" and while jumping form one FROALN-system to another, all my mind made of it was "Fräulein" in my mother-language, meaning "Miss" in english. With all the tasty non-sequence-stars in abundance I could not resist to name this sector "Süßes Fräulein" or "Sweet Miss" and hope, you will forgive me doing so, Erimus. It was the deprivation. Due to its high number of white, blue-white and blue stars lots of habitable worlds can be discovered here, only some of which I managed to tag. It is definitely worth to return there for further surveys, which I'll probably do after the Distant-Worlds-Expedition. Distance from Sol is approximately 20.000 lightyears.

"Süßes Fräulein" Stellar Forge
POI Type: Scientific, Visual, Financial
System Ref.: FROALN KY-Y D1-29

A huge sector with a very high-number of white, blue-white and blue stars accompanied by uncountable T-Tauri-Stars making it quite a sight for any explorer approaching the Core. The sector is full of habitable worlds and in it's upper regions filled with non-sequence-stars like Neutrons and Black Holes. Due to the high value of such stars a survey can prove a lucrative undertaking once the data is sold at Universal Cartographics. Beautiful nebulae can be found within this sector, too.

I propose the Teleki Carina Neutron belt. a string of Neutrons, about 200-500 Ly apart, from about 100 Ly to 600Ly below the plane, from Praei Bre WO-R d4-3
to the last Neutron being about 150LY short of the Pueliae AA-A Ho Nebula. (Carina Sagittarius Arm).

Z...

Thanks for these :)

The mapping project will be on hold now until after the Distant Worlds expedition - so we're talking at least March 3302.

Distant Worlds is going to produce a massive amount of data (I hope) and it will take some time to sift through it all and pick out the most unique and visually stunning / scientifically interesting points of interest to add to these maps.

Its going to be a busy few months!

I'll add these latest two entries in due course.

Yes, take your time!!! You are already doing a lot of work for the distant world expedition, and I've already put Junon in my report.
OFC in due time, when you will breathe again, I'd like it to be in your map too!!!!

Newly named planets

Anybody out there ?
Hello then !

Not sure to post on the appropriate forum, and I suppose you are aware of the results of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) "NameExoWorlds" contest : the Approved Names have just been released.

Fly safe with an updated map, commanders !

I have worked for some time to create a new map on our galaxy. Corbin Moran helped me with merging my work to bigger maps and soon we should have a map covering the whole galaxy.

I will be a plane projection from 'above' covering the whole galaxy. Without grid and Magellan clouds...
It will also be easy to transform coordinate to pixel so it will be easy to add grid and POI on the right place after.

Here is a preview picture of Lower left quadrant.

G1s.jpg
This is a scaled down version. Original is 10k*10k pixels.

Short overview of the process:

I divided the galaxy in 56 areas (20k ly* 20kly) and with a 10kly overlap to next image so we can merge them without artifacts.

For every area i took 2 high res screenshots. One with grid visible and one without.
Added the one with grid on a layer above the other in photoshop.
With a perspective crop on the layer with grid i could select a 20k ly * 20kly region and tranform it to a rectangle.
Resized it to 4000*4000 pixels.
And saved the layer without grid to a map tile.
Repeated this 56 times... Took allot of time)

Corbin Moran helped me to merge the result to a bigger map.

I will use this maps later in EDDiscovery and it can be a very good source to make maps for the Galactic mappings.

That's fantastic work, I would love to use your finished map with this project - with your permission of course!? It would improve the accuracy of pinpointing POIs, and with an overlay grid would help gauge distances far better too.

A large galactic overview map is something I hoped to produce one day but never had the time or skill to do it... can't rep you enough! :)

Yes that one of the goals with this project. i hope we can supply you with new nice maps soon.

About time I registered this one:

Void's Brink
Location: Chanoa QK-C d14-0

An ELW found at the most northern point of the Perseus Arm tip using a max range Anaconda at the end of the "pre-jumpium" era. The FGE/IGER have decided as a group venture to open an observatory at this location. We now call this world "Void's Brink".

Note: While I think it's the current record for the most northern point on that arm, it's not the most eastern point. Allitnil's Eastern Promise still hold's that accolade as far as I know.

And just for giggles I've decided to start referring to the 3rd world of Beagle Point, CEECKIA ZQ-L C24-0 3 with the highly unofficial nickname of "Marlon's Mongrel"

JY0mB6Rh.png

The "Mongrel" part is not just as a nod to the word "beagle", but also in recognition of the mixed "ownership" in this planet's history. This refers to an infamous blunder by Universal Cartographics which resulting in the tag formally owned by CMDR Kamzel erroneously transferring to CMDR Blake.

Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to take my buggy out on it... :D

lulz, stulli you took the screenshot out from the grave?
That starts to be antique!!!
If this makes you feel better when I went to CEECKIA sector I've scanned a whole lot of things, then CMDR NipNip (making his name becouse we are friend and I'm not lamenting) arrived 2 weeks later than me, but obviously made it back before me!!!!
Can you add a little Akira Masakari under you name, CMDR NipNip, just for the record?
Sigh, my personal furthest tag is no more personal, neither firthest, and even less tag! 300,000LS of supercruise completly wasted!

I know that neutron fields around the core are well known, but I came across a large field north-north east of Sag A* (around 30k ly from sol) that is littered with black holes. It's an area about 5000 light years long and 2 light years wide, with a cluster of black holes every 20-30 light years or so.
They are in the thousands.
With quite a few super giants, Carbon stars etc.

If it's news I'll post the coords.

Sounds like the Graveyard...

The Scaulo-Systimbu Stellar Graveyard
Game map search ref. : SCAULO IL-Y D6 115
POI Type: Region (of Scientific Interest)
This is part of the neutron fields below the plane of the galaxy on the far side of the core. In this particular place, black holes outnumber neutron stars by approx. 10:1. The graveyard crosses over the boundary of Scaulo and Systimbu sectors and is packed full of the collapsed remains of long dead stars.
(Screenshot Ref. Post #240).

- Map 12 on the Galactic Core.

If its not that, then please do post details.. although I won't be updating the maps now until after the Distant Worlds Expedition is over :)

The new northern meridian YOU have just found could come in handy tough! I'll put in the 65KLY club approx raising a lil the existing one in the map and changing description. :)

No not that one then, good to know!
I'll post the details tonight when I get home.
