Smugglers Path - across the abyss
with 33ly, direct south from Beagle Point.

I found another "33-route" across the abyss.[woah] I dubbed it Smugglers Path because in times it felt like you just have to know the spots where you can travel through.
Smugglers Path is a route across the abyss that never uses more than 33ly-jumps direct south from Beagle Point.

The biggest jump and also the ONLY jump that was NOT preplotted by blue lines was 32.9ly.
So with a ship capable of this jump range you won't need jumponium.:p
Fully fueled my ASP jumps 32.64ly.

It starts at -1200 west and ends at -200 west of the 0-meridian and south of the abyss.
On the way I passed 36 waterworlds and 4 earthlikes

In the northern part I had to take some detours around areas of low star density but most of the times it was straight forward, always following the blue lines for about a 100lys at a time.

One time I hit a mayor gap that couldn't be crossed with 33lys, forcing me to deviate east.

Following is a list of my waypoints recorded by EDDiscovery.

Consider my waypoints as a proof-of-concepts. That means there are many other variants and improvements possible. Also you don't have to jump to every system in the list of course. Just follow my route roughly.

I parted the list into six segments for better overview.[yesnod]

I only did this route once. So there still could be errors in the list. If you find any or if you found a significant shortcut feel free to contact me.
I hope it was worth the three days in the abyss. ;-)

Right on! [up]

Dropping this here before it vanishes into the forum Abyss...

When I find myself at Beagle Point with Distant World Expedition I was aware of the existence of Podar but I didn't partecipate to the excursion due to RL commitments.

Later on, when leaving to the bubble again, I read about "Route 33" plotted by CMDR Stulli, alternative shortcut route for the galaxy core which not requires a long-range jump ship like the well known "Svenno Crossing" but still profitable in matter of time compared to "Roncevaux Crossing".

But how could make it to Podar an armed anaconda with a jump range of 29-36 ly (yeah, big fuel tank) controlled by a rookie explorer that didn't know that automatic plotting assumes you are with full tank (aka: me)? And once to Podar, how could it make it to take the Route 33?

Long story short, this is my journey, from Beagle Point to Route 33, visiting the Podar system with its rings and moons ;)

A ship with 32 ly jump can make it, just bring some jumponium (45.13 ly) for departing :) (and a bit more for not running on fumes, despite the 99% of this star are scoopable)

Fly safe cmdrs!

A big thanks to CMDR 'Ziggy' Lucas for the waypoints to Podar and CMDR Stulli for his Route33.

...and one for the Formidine Rift map...

Rho Cassiopeiae - Reaching the (Almost) Unreachable

One day while reading through the Formidine Rift thread, I noticed that the system "Rho Cassiopeiae" is mentioned several times throughout it. Rho Cassiopeiae contains a yellow-white hypergiant, being one of the brightest stars in the known galaxy. It's also the largest and heaviest F type star ever found in Elite: Dangerous. It's a system theorized to maybe play a role in the Formidine Rift mystery, but I'm pretty sure that has yet to be confirmed or denied. What made it special, though, was that it was supposedly unreachable, and people described attempting to find a route to it from above with a 78-79ly jump range and being unable to. Some even thought that it wouldn't be possible until the Engineer's Update, in which we may be able to upgrade our FSDs or ships for better jump ranges.

Upon reading such blasphemy, I became determined to find a route...and as it turns out, there is one :p. However, it requires a minimum jump range of 40.44ly and a decent amount of FSD injections, as the largest jump in the route is 80.86ly. There may be a more efficient route that uses less Premium FSD Injections, so if you find a better route to Rho Cassiopeiae, awesome! :D

Ship Build and Route

Ship required (as of 11-4-16): Anaconda
Recommended Anaconda build: http://coriolis.io/outfit/anaconda/...---------3i--------2f2i.AwRj4yVLhqg=.Aw18ZlA=
Has a 40.56 maximum jump range for this build. Would recommend using, just in case you jump to an unscoopable star on your way to Rho Cassiopeiae. With your remaining fuel, you should be able to jump to a scoopable star. Change your build as you see fit, but remember, with the current known route, you require a minimum jump range of 40.44ly.

Recommended number of FSD Injections for a two-way trip: 8 Basic, 3 Standard, 20 Premium
This way, in case you select the wrong FSD Injection before jumping, you have a couple extra to fall back on.

Visualization: EDSM Personal Travel Map (Rho Cassiopeiae route is around 7500)

*Note: There is a "hook" of stars leading around Rho Cassiopeiae...you'll see what I mean if you look on the Galmap. It may be possible to use those as the remaining jumps with Basic/Standard FSD Injections instead of the direct, final jump with one Premium injection. However, I have not tested this route, so attempt it at your own risk.

Short Story/Picture Album

If you plan on going to Rho Cassiopeiae and don't want to know what it contains (other than a yellow-white hypergiant), I'd recommend not viewing this photo album for obvious reasons. Then again, it's not all that special, it's just like every other star system :p So go ahead and take a look! It contains route estimating, a very condensed journey to and from Rho Cass (only 42 pictures!), and shots of the Rho Cassiopeiae system itself, including a custom postcard! It even has a Fuel Rat rescue by Commander Ridgerunner! Thank you!!! Without him and the Fuel Rats rescuing me, I would've lost the motivation to go to Rho Cassiopeiae. So thank you again, Ridgerunner and the Fuel Rats, you played a crutial role in this journey!

In Conclusion...
Have fun getting there! And if you're running an 8 ton fuel tank, be careful and check your map constantly so that you don't risk jumping to an unscoopable and get stuck!

Draco's Run :

Well Frawd, if you're satisfied with just breaking the 65k Ly barrier for now, then you could follow my route, it wouldn't need more than 4 basic boosts total, or 6 if you want to push further and reach the max possible distance of 65,061.70 Ly, although I'd recommend taking 2 extra just to be sure you don't get stuck :)
(if you'd prefer to find a route yourself though, don't open the spoiler :p )

And Frawds historical sidewinder crossing...

Cmdr Frawd Digger said:
I have already created a map of my journey up to the point I first crossed the 65KLY line (early March)...it's pretty much to within 1000LY of BP:

http://i.imgur.com/vP0ZAjT.jpg

The red line is the first part of my journey up to the point where I bit the dust at Digger's Demise. The blue line is the second part of the journey where I managed NOT to die on the way to BP. Will this do? I can update the map with the last 1000ly to BP and remove the red part of the journey if you like.

Speaking of which, I was hoping to rename/label the system where I bit the dust (EOS CHREA NY-Q C21 349) to Digger's Demise...is that possible on your map of maps?

Draco's Run (named after Cmdr Draco25240 who discovered the route) is a route across the 65KLY which requires a minimum of jumponium and is good for small/low jump range ships (it took me 4 basic jumps all up). Draco published the route on my thread:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=214222&page=27&p=3594220&viewfull=1#post3594220

It would be really cool if he could be acknowledged for his discovery.

Route across the Abyss at or about zero meridian:

I apologise in advance - my patented way of collecting the jump distances has partially failed and I have a few missing Jump distances::eek:

(it's annoying me so I'm going back and doing it properly)

32.5ish Jump Range - I know I used 1 J2 and 3 or 4 J1s (3 definite) .

EDITS:
1. Added some distances from SOL as reference for the trilaterated systems.
2. Updated jump distances (discovered I had some of the missing jump distances from the main screen (only to 1dp so not submitted to EDSM) ) - only a few missing distances now.

Thueche AA-A H16 Nebula ('Thueche Brahe Nebula')

I'm surprised this is not on the map yet (1st quadrant, western part of the Scutum Centaurus arm), as this seems to be the only major landmark out there: the Thueche AA-A H16 Nebula (55 KLYs from Sol, might be the furthest).

It has first been reported by ASC (forum name) in the following thread. It's well explored already by CMDRs Star Falcon, Turambar, Skit, and Camulorix, but not named, AFAIK. Name suggestion: Thueche Brahe Nebula, in remembrance of the Danish 16th century astronomer Tycho Brahe. He was a major source for the data Kepler used for his revolutionary laws of planetary motion.

Possible meeting waypoint: Thueche LS-A d1-54, planet A2 or A3.

Please find some pictures below:

May I suggest CHU THAA GG-Y D0 to D13 ("Lady Huggins Cluster")

A small open cluster of beautiful A and F class stars with many colorful planets and landable moons, largely unexplored.
Situated between waypoints 16 and 17 of the Sagittarius-Carina Expedition.

Named after Lady Huggins, an early pioneer of stellar spectroscopy.

Here are the remaining POI candidates that I encountered during DWE 3302. A couple of the nebulae had been previously visited but not reported, although my surveys of them were brief - more like visited in passing. The POIs near the borders of the Bleia and Praei permit zones might be better described as footnotes to those regions, which already exist as POIs. I would like to say here that, although I did not visit them, there are very many nebulae in the Galactic Core regions due north of the Festival Grounds, possibly even more densely packed in places. This area of the map may have little in it right now but there are _dozens_ of nebulae waiting to be added - this should be a very busy part of the map! As a side-note on the Wizard's Hat nebula, I remember this particular nebula had many B stars inside and around it, though I have visited enough nebulae that my memory may be mistaken. I also visited the Prua Phoe AA-A H69 nebula on my way back but noticed the systems I was passing through had been tagged and by that stage I was in such a hurry to get home I didn't do a proper survey and also my external screenshots did not come out (I'm not sure why but this sometimes happens).
.
Are systems with two Ammonia Worlds or two Earth-like Worlds worth adding as Minor POIs? I encountered two systems housing binary Earth-like Worlds (one was ~400 LY from the Bleia permit zone) and three systems housing two Ammonia Worlds (one was a binary about 1KLY from the Praei permit zone, in one they were separate, in the other they were in a trinary with a high metal content world). I also encountered two systems housing both an Earth-like World and an Ammonia World. As I'm doubtful, I'll hold off submitting them for now (though I have already reported the Earth-like Worlds in the appropriate thread).

'Fly Trap Nebula'
Game map search ref. : PYRIVO HW-V E2-8
POI Type: Minor/Visual
This enticing nebula lures visitors in but the only thing inside is a black hole waiting to swallow them! If you can survive arriving close to the black hole, the view of the surrounding nebula is even more beautiful than it appears from the outside. This nebula is located just 17.1 LY from the Praei2 permit zone.
'Wizard's Hat Nebula'
Game map search ref. : PHROEA BLUAE AA-A H19
POI Type: Visual
This large nebula (120*100*100 LY) displays shades of red and green on one side but is dark from other angles, like an -odd-shaped hat with a dark exterior and colourful interior, hence the name. It is located on the fringes of the Galactic Core and there are other nebulae within sight of it. A particularly interesting system is found not far from its outer edge: Phroea Bluae KC-U e3-3726, a system centred on a Herbig AeBe star that is orbited by an Ammonia World!
'Little Xoth Nebula'
Game map search ref. : XOTHUIA AA-A H9
POI Type: Visual
This relatively small nebula (20*15*15 LY) has a bright tip with yellow and red colours but is darker elsewhere. There are two other nebulae in XOTHUIA sector and this region is very densely populated with nebulae, perhaps even more so than the Festival Grounds.
'Demon Eater Nebula'
Game map search ref. : PHRAE FLYOU AA-A H30
POI Type: Visual
This large nebula (105*100*130 LY) is visible from many thousands of LY when approaching from the Galactic Core regions. It has dusty pink and red colours on one side, these mostly facing the Core regions, but is darker on the other side. On my approach, the angle was such that this nebula appeared to be 'eating' another nebula, which inspired the name. There are many other nebulae in this region, which is not far from the Festival Grounds.

I posted this on a separate thread https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=236355&highlight=shackleton back in March but I'll put it here as this seems to be the right place for routes.

Basically it's a slow but sure route from Roncevaux Crossing to beagle point, which I named "The Shackleton path" after the ship I flew but also after Shackleton's epic but lengthy expeditions

So, if you want to get to Beagle point in a 34LY or thereabouts ship and aren't that confident about route plotting in the Abyss this is a safe route to use(variances in the "I want to kill you" route planner permitting)

It's been used a few times by people so I hope it find it's place here

And why is this post not stickied? As a new explorer, thanks for the compilation of interesting data.
Supremely repped

I've made an edit to my earlier post in the thread, #638, as I'd like the system to be called Borchgrevink Point instead of the generic name I gave it earlier. It's named after Carsten Borchgrevink, a Norwegian explorer who pioneered Antarctic exploration and was a precursor to Amundsen, Scott, Shackleton and many more.

Name : The Briar Patch

I discovered this eerie little piece of space on my way out to Beagle Point on the DWE, it seems another commander (who has since returned to the bubble) also found it and has claimed first discovery so Kudos to him, I would like to name the place 'The Briar Patch' with reference to the ST-TNG episode where there was a small single planet inside a gaseos nebula that made sensor use difficult.
