I've noticed the Region maps are missing from EDSM. What happened to that?
It became too time consuming to mark their borders as each reference system acting as a border marker needed trilateration, and there were hundreds of references needed to define the borders.
So the regions are now marked in text on the actual maps instead.. plus it looks better

As Erimus said + we aim to add the regions as single markers you can turn on and off (just like the other POIs). The region markers will then open to a description of each region, just like POI markers currently open to a description of the POI.
And I for one are very much in favor of the more "organic feel" to the map when it has regions loosely defined by curved text as compared to the region overlay that makes everything very geometric. I think it is a nice feature that it is a little undefined exactly where the "Sidereal Wall" or "Orion-Perseus Conflux" regions has their borders.

It uses the same reference as the IC 1805 Cluster, so to see your entry on the map you need to click once on the cluster icon, and then the Altera's Eye icon will appear next to it [up]

Ah alright. I guess I liked the geometric regions because I personally like knowing how to describe where I am to someone.
that said, I like both.
Trilaterating hundreds of systems is indeed tedious to do.
Speaking of trilateration, was wondering if we could have an EDSM day. a day where everyone who has benefited from the use of EDSM could volunteer to submit distances to 10 systems that have yet to be trilaterated in the EDSM database. maybe it could be a yearly (or anniversary) thing.

That is a good idea!
Perhaps I am wrong but won't this be a non issue once we get the Player Journal? If I am understanding this correctly the Star Position coordinates will be written to the Journal (and therefore able to be captured and uploaded by third party tools). That should mean that from that point onward every system will have its absolute position recorded when it's uploaded.
Not sure how they will handle systems already in the EDSM (perhaps have it overwrite old data with the latest, since if it's coming from the Journal (and therefore directly from the game) it'll be guaranteed to be correct.
Isn't this coming with the next major update?

Yes I think we should change it please, I think "The Aquarium" is a fine suggestion.
After all, most named Nebulae are named after things we can relate to (Jellyfish nebula, Pelican nebula), so it would be more fitting.

The system has no (certain) coordinates on EDSM.net.
I've added the entry to EDSM and asked for it to be trilaterated by EDSM users. Once it is, it'll appear on the map

If by 'using EDSM' you mean more than just fiddling around and discovering what a 'meridian' is,...eer no. I shall register soon
Cool! you're going to need one more thing to make it easier to upload flight logs. EDDiscovery, Captain's Log or EDMC. Your choice.
They'll automate the process to send logs to edsm at a click of a button.
