The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

UPDATED 26.11.16

All late submissions have been reviewed and added to the GMP.

Added:
- Giant Isopod Nebula
- Friduwulf Nebula
- Lexx Nebula
- Cobalt Skies
- Pudwill nebula
- The Dark Wolf
- Dalton Jewel
- Jasmoria
- Galionas
- Dynasty Expedition - Conflux Rally Point 3
- Splosh
- Teqaea Nebula (placeholder)
- Wredguia Gateway & Depot
- Fenrisulfur
- Wulfric
- Coronet Pulsar

Updated:
- Blood Nebula
- Emerald Remnant

Not added (yet):
- Aaru Nebula (pending trilateration)

Once again, thanks for the fantastic efforts. With you folks the galaxy gets bigger every day.

For those who would like to have a screenshot added to the GMP entry, we need a rather small picture for that. Something like 600 x 320 or so. Otherwise the picture would enlarge and distort the entry.

Thanks again, fly safe CMDR's!

Would you like all my screen shots redone would not take me more than an hour.

If it's okay for you it would be an awesome addition to the entry. However, we could also use the "external resources" label as in a few other entries. We wouldn't have pictures then but a reference to your Trello cards, which I find equally awesome. It's your call, both options are great.

I'd like to submit a name for the star and system name for Eol Prou VY-R d4-443, which houses Tranquility, the Earth-like world I originally submitted in an earlier post, #886. There is only the one star in the system, and I'd like both to be called Nereus.
Nereus is a Greek mythological deity of the Aegean Sea, and the father of the Nereides. Since Tranquility has a marine economy in-game, I decided it would be better to go with a nautical theme for the main star, and hence the system name.

If this gets approved, should Tranquility's entry be rolled into this and its description inserted here, or would they be separate entries?

Name : Nereus
Game map search ref. : Eol Prou VY-R d4-443
Description : Nereus was one of the first systems to be colonized near the Colonia. One of its planets, named Tranquility, is noted as being the first Earth-like world in the galactic core to be settled. The system also has several other terrestrial planets, and two gas giants farther out, one of which is surrounded by icy rings.

Greetings CMDR's.

I would like to report a error in system name in Galactic Mapping Project at EDSM and its positioning.

"Silentium Shores" system Hyphielie QH-K c22-0 in EDSM.

Unfortunately real system is called Hyphielia QH-K c22-0

Real one is 1.280 LY away from the error one and that threw me off my course significantly.
I hope this report reaches someone with power to confirm and fix it. Akira first reported on the system and her/his screenshots are proof that there indeed is an error.
Location where this system was first reported is on page 31 of this thread.

I hope my small contribution to this helps someone down the road to reach real Silentium Shores...

Safe flight,
Mithrasyn

Hello Mapping-Team,

i've a short question: at EDSM i would submit a new system. In the FAQ there ist a Link to this thread for submitting a new system for the "Galactic Mapping Project".
I've read the first Post here from (the great ;-) CMDR Erimus. And there it say's:

Ideally candidate entries should be something unique, or rare ...

Hm, i just want to submit a new, totally unspectacular system, just for filling the great Database from EDSM which is used by many great Tools as for example the Elite Dangerous Neutron Router.

So, is this the right place or not???

From earlier days where i've subbmitted some systems to EDSM (older version), i submitted it directly there and have to submit some distances to calculate the coordinates.

So, can you please tell me where i can submit new systems "only" for filling the database at EDSM?

Thank you.

Either go direct to the EDSM website and you can import your ED netlogs/journals (anything post 2.1 will have the position so there's no filling in distances).

Or download ED Discovery and configure it with your EDSM API Key (that you can get from the EDSM page when you register) and that will sync your travels with EDSM (plus give you maps and route planners and what not)

This sounds perfect, i will have a look on EDDiscovery.

Thank you for this tip [up]

You're welcome. Once you've installed the latest version the Help menu has links to our forum thread, discord channel and github issues page if you need any help getting it set up and working.

Most distant "green system" with all Jumponium matarials

Looks like I found the most distant green system so far:

Name : Distant Greens 1
Game map search ref. : CEECKIA NF-C D14-0
Description : system with many landable planets, completly scanned by Cmdr NARZGUL
Screenshot Ref. Post : http://imgur.com/6icZVNH
Distant to Sol: 65.468 LY

Name : Distant Greens 2
Game map search ref. : YOOXIAE ER-C D0
Description : system with many landable planets, completly scanned by Cmdr NARZGUL

Distant to Sol: 65.546 LY

I checked, It was my fault, I've submitted the entry wrongly!!!!!!!!
Back in the day I was with pen and paper, and another set of systems I couldn't find anymore had my spelling wrongly. Now i've got 2 more ELW to submit finally!!!

I will never have enough rep for you, I will take in my cause to make Erimus or Andrew notice and correct the EDSM entry.
They are very busy, but I'll remeber to make them notice in case they overlook your post.

Thanks a lot and congratulations for your expedition!!!!

Well, millisecond pulsars have made it into the game. And in visible fashion!

Need some tweaks though.

Hello, i'd like to invite anyone interested in neutron stars to visit the Qiedea sector, 7000Ly from the bubble, a field of neutron stars (way too many for a single explorer), DC stars and some M_Supergiant too.
I'm exploring the area with a diamondback explorer tuned for 45Ly max per jump, and still had not to use FSD injection, there is a good number of scoopable stars too.

Not currently listed on EDSM as a point of interest, would like to get added:

Name : Black Treasure
Game map search ref. : Traikoa FL-P E5-4
Description : Black hole located inside a blue nebula. Contains a navigation beacon with details and history, and is populated with NPC passenger liners.
Distance to Sol: 5,260.69 Ly

I'd like to request an update to the description of the star cluster NGC 2286. As it currently stands, this star cluster is currently permit locked. However, the description of the cluster states: "The sector was rumored to contain systems that caused FSD lock-on failures, but a recent expedition in Nov. 3301 found no such stars."

This statement is no longer true. From what I understand, according to forum user marx in this thread, he traveled there in November of 2015 and found no permit locked systems, even though NGC 2286 was listed in the permit list file. He was able to explore NGC 2286. I assume that the quote from the galactic map on NGC 2286 is referring to marx's expedition.

In any case, an update between then and now fixed region permits, thus locking the NGC 2286 sector. I stopped by to gather proof of the inability to traverse through it.

I'm currently circling it up and down to get an idea of it's dimensions. The sector has a radius of about 375 lightyears from the center in all directions, and it appears every single system in the sector starts with the designation "NGC 2286 Sector"; no special named systems appear to exist inside.

I hope that you consider updating the description of the star cluster NGC 2286 to include this new information
