The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

Water giants, while rare, are not unique enough to form a POI by themselves. Is there anything else significantly unusual or notable about this giant or system to merit a POI?

Awe that's a shame  . But thanks for letting me know , ill check the system map again and report back

A Modern-Day El Dorado

☢ - "Gold" Mat System

Name: El Dorado (Upper Angustia Depot)
Galmap Ref: Blooe Phroo VO-P d6-6
Description: Hundreds of light-years below the void that is Angustia lies a system of unfathomable abundance, a place any explorer, prospector, or bounty hunter would kill to keep secret. A modern-day El Dorado, an apt description one may conceive, as this system contains all raw materials one's heart could desire. Heed this warning, however: stay steadfast against the alluring bountifulness, for those who've dug too greedily sealed their own fate, never to been heard from again. Some say they still mine away, miles beneath the surface of the dead, airless worlds, living only for their insatiable lust of wealth and fortune.

Is there anything particularly unique or unusual about this geyser? While geysers are interesting, I would prefer that we not add every geyser found.

OK Heavy Johnson. I'm fade up with that. What is particular in geyser ? Have you ever try to find one ? It's my 5th post. And you don't accept 3/5. I'm here to share to communauty. You don't want. No problem. It's my last post.

(copied from my discord conversation with Phoenix and reposted here for clarification :) )

The total number of Geysers in the galaxy must be tremendous so we could never add every single one. That being said, I agree that we need to clarify the criteria for when a geyser should be accepted. It is something we are looking into and I promise we will get back to you.

It is very important for me that people are encouraged by the GMP - and not frustrated by it, so pilots should know what to look for.
Regarding geysers it is currently a bit of a grey area where we are still finding our legs.
Please give us a little time to deliberate on this.

The Galactic Mapping Project was started to bring some life, narrative and structure to the procedurally generated galaxy. If we pile too many POIs on the map, it looses that structure and becomes just another 'information soup'.

Thats why we don´t accept every water world or ELW found - because there are simply to many. These days we would probably only accept an entry with three or four ELWs, or perhabs two if they are ringed and in a binary orbit. A system with four water worlds just barely makes it to the map - and only if it is in an area of the galaxy where few POIs have allready been found.

The things is that the Galactic Mapping Project is not just the EDSM database. In a database you can allways cram in more information, but a map is a delicate balance between supplying as much relevant information as needed without supplying too much.

I hope this explains why we cannot simply add everything to the map, but have to act as a sort of filter in the selection proces.
I hope we will be able to come up with some clarification regarding geysers soon, so frustration should be less in the future :)

Fly safe :)

As for geysers I submit only ones in specific locations, like nebulas, interesting places like Beagle Point, or something that looks really good and it is worth the visit. I agree with Heavy that there is no point submitting all of them. I understand it takes lots of effort to find them, but it is not making them special for everyone else. For all the geysers you find there is a thread to share your efforts:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...a-Collection?p=4558858&viewfull=1#post4558858

I actually focus on finding them in places worth submitting for example this morning I found site in the Seagull Nebula:

Earth like world with Orbiting waterworld moon.

Im pleased to offer these finds as poi's. I would like them referenced as ' Mother and Daughter'

info copied from my eddiscovery

" Mother and Daughter "

Earth like World with a waterworld moon orbiting

"Ploea Aerb ZG-L d8-0 4" is the mother

"Ploea Aerb ZG-L d8-0 5" is the daughter

Im preparing a rework and update of the POIs in and around the Pleiades area...

So far I´ve been able to confirm 16 settlements in the Pleiades... Empire, Federation, Alliance, Independents, Researchers, Miners, Pirates... Everyone and his uncle has apparently decided to set up shop at the center of Thargoid activity.... what could possibly go wrong :D

We only need one from Catholic Church to sum things up ;)

POIs regarding the Pleiades cluster has been reworked into four map entries, each covering a distinct aspect of what is to be found there:

The Pleiades
- type: Cluster
- system: Pleione (due to Pleione being the one giving name to her daughters, the Pleiades)
- subject: Info on astronomical properties and history of the cluster.

Merope
- type: Mystery
- system: Merope (due to the peculiar role of this system with regards to Unkown Artifacts)
- subject: Info on Unknown Artifacts and the 'shell' of alien activity apparently centered on Merope.

Deep Space Outposts - the Pleiades
- type: Deep Space Outpost
- system: Maia (due to Maia being the system with most outposts in the cluster)
- subject: Info on location and history of the 16 deep space outposts currently to be found in the vicinity of the cluster.

Barnacle sites - the Pleiades
- type: Organic Features
- system: Pleiades Sector JC-U b3-2 (due to no less than 38 barnacle sites being located within this system)
- subject: Info on location and history of barnacles.

Unfortunately this rework left no room for the two preivous geyser entries: Maia´s Mists and Pleione Blues. These may make a return in a future update... if someone manages to locate a particularly interesting geyser site in the Pleiades that is NOT located in one of the four systems above ;)

Final update in this batch :)

Achenar and Alioth has been added along with some official lore on the Empire and Alliance. This complements the recent update to the Sol system with lore about the Federation.

Cheers everyone (Im gonna chill now ;) )

NEW POI

POI Name: NGC 6058
Galmap Ref: CSI+40-16027
Desc: " NGC 6058 is a planetary nebula discovered by William Herschel on March 18, 1787. He described it as 'pretty faint, very small, round, stellar'. At more than 6700 ly above the galactic plane, it is currently unreachable by any means."

I'm sorry Commander, but that's not a moon; those are in binary orbit. A moon is below the first body. Also, an ELW and a WW in the same system is not unusual enough to be a POI.

About the Achenar article: a part of it is outdated, since the official GalNet article came before the Imperial succession was concluded. I'd change the following paragraph:
"For many years succession was restricted to the male line, and it was claimed various means were used to restrict royal births to only male children. This practice was later abandoned, and recent events at the heart of the Empire indicate that male succession may soon be broken."

This practice was later abandoned, and not long after the laws of succession were changed in 3301, Arissa Lavigny-Duval was declared Emperor in the same year."

Alternatively, I'd just remove the paragraph altogether, since it's not terribly relevant to the article anyway.

Thanks, Ill update it right away. Both these entries are a bit of 'placeholder' for the time being - while we wait in anticipation for Drew Wagar to make a blog post about the official lore of the Alliance and Empire.

I really loved the gazeteer that came with FE2 - if that information was considered canon Id love to add some of it to the map...
