Name:Aegean Blue Heights
Game map search ref:HYPUA FLYOAE CQ-O D6-77
Description:Whilst the whole sub-sector is full of Helium-rich Gas Giants, this particular system is home to 6 in total, and 4 of them are blue-coloured ones, found during the Wild Wild West Expedition (Aug '21-Jan '22). This submission pays homage to Planet 7 that is a deep-blue Helium-rich Gas Giant, similar to the colour of the Aegean Sea in summer. What is a rare sight is the moon of planet 7 that orbits right at the edge of the ring and contains many high peaks on its surface, some of which exceed 10km in height. The moon, itself, represents the Cycladic islands that are, for the more, bare rock and few vegetation, giving that striking visual contrast. If heights don't do it for you, the canyons are amazingly deep and their surface flat which means great for SRV racing / drifting, and also have many geological sites to visit. The mountain-top views are spectacular as you have the whole planet in your sight, as well as the backdrop of the rich Hypau Flyoae region.

Unfortunately, POI's featuring Horizons body features are ineligible for submission, given their ephemeral nature. Also, 6 HRGG's in one system are not particularly remarkable, and would not qualify as a POI on their own. For further consideration, please submit Odyssey body screenshots. Hopefully, it's as remarkable as its Horizons counterpart. Rare-"ish" and remarkably pretty would make the cut.

Yeah, it looks like the axial tilt is showing the number of radians, rather than degrees, but then puts the "°" degree symbol next to it. That one is probably more a question for Anthor. I'm pretty sure EDSM stores the values in radians internally. So either it's not converting to degrees, or it's adding the symbol when it shouldn't. ;)

EDIT: Forgot to add-- I'll go ahead and put the correction in. You're right, the old description doesn't follow the actual planetary mechanics. ;)
Yes, as you say, the value is in radians but the web shows the ° as if the value were in degrees.

Thank you for answering so fast and for putting the correction in the description!

Hey guys, here are some POI renewals from the SWS//High G summer Slamdown. Not only we have new pictures of Odyssey but also some surface viewpoints.

No new description to NGC 6188, but photo renewal with Odyssey graphics since the previous one is broken.

Photo renewal and updated description for Morgan's Rock.

This is a test submission, so let me know if this is what you look for in renewals.

Name:
NGC 6188 Sector LC-V c2-28 (Morgan's Rock / NGC 6188)
Game map search ref:NGC 6188 Sector LC-V c2-28
Description:Morgan's Rock is an asteroid base controlled by the Interstellar Mining Corporation, with 26,000 staff on site. The base is located inside the small NGC 6188 nebula. All services are available except for ship outfitting and a shipyard; although it does count with an exobiology and other non-ship services. The identity of 'Morgan' still to this day remains in mystery. This is the closest station to Hawking's Gap and the last stop for those going to Eta Carina Nebula 4000ly away.

This station was recently visited as part of the SWS HIGH-G SUMMER SLAMDOWN 3307 EXPEDITION.

Hi Baxter.
When PS4 commanders get Ody, we can re-discuss, then.

Cheers

Hey don't feel bad! I've been getting scouts into certain surface sites in Odyssey and some of them do keep some of its features.

I would send a scout West to check yours out but most of them are busy in the opposite site. Perhaps you should ask someone in Wild West with Odyssey to check the site out and see how many of its features are still there? Even though it might not be remarkable as Baxder mentioned.

I don't know how if that helps much, but just an idea based in other surface Horizons sites we've visited in Odyssey.

Here a nice one:

Name:Icarus Rest
Game map search ref:Yaikiae WP-V d3-3
Description:Icarus Rest is located around 1450LY below the galactic plane and offers three points of interest. It has a neutron star with a strong elyptically orbiting terraformable water world (A 3).
In addition, there are two stellar phenomena.
The main attraction is a red dwarf with a single planet (B 1) orbiting with only 1.98 LS. The surface temperature is about 1650K. You should not approach the planet without heatsinks and should not stay outside for a long time.

Hey @Baxder and @Orvidius

What will you look foward on renewals like this one?

What will you likely want me to focus on?
Will you also consider adding additional features discovered on existing POI's that were added in Odyssey or were not reported in the entry (due to lack of programs like Observatory that pinpointed stellar features on submission)?

I want to see if I get a good understanding so I can submit these en masse. A lot of these renewals took the original Horizon photos for consideration, so if you would like to pinpoint comparisons that could be great. I'm looking foward to add more clarity to some of the POI's that aren't that clear for future generations.

I'm looking foward for your feedback.

Updated. Thank you!

There is something wrong with the link too. For some reason, it reopens the same entry over and over again.

This could be a good replacement link.

Not sure how much info you guys need, but I'm making this resubmission since I swapped DSSA carriers.

Carrier’s name:[IGAU] Sublime
Designated Region:Empyrean Straits
Carrier location :Gleeque HW-N e6-149
Screenshots:

Commission Date (date signed up to the DSSA):2021-10-21
List all the services available:Repair, Refuel, Armoury, Universal Cartographics, Commodity Market, Shipyard, Outfitting, Redemption Office
Tariff % Set:0%
Nearest Tritium hotspot:Gleeque KC-A c28-2 12 B Ring
Info about FC:The Sublime was the fleet carrier used to discover the farthest reachable black hole from Sol. And after that expedition as well as reaching some previously unreachable real stars, the Sublime is settling down and taking the place of the Lemon Drop.

Hello again.

Well, I'm still waiting patiently for your feedback, so I can facilitate your work as much as I can. In the meantime, here is another renewal; please make sure to credit the Astrophotographer (IkerzTheMage) since he did the leg work to get there. He also did the NGC 6188 photo, and probably Baxder didn't see his credit (It happens, I understand). I will try to upload the renewals constantly, so we slowly but surely give some of these POI's a new good look.

Today we are going with the Trifid Nebula (Trifid Sector DH-K a9-6) renewal; the Astrophotographer and I are working on a new expedition. So I told him to give it a new renewal to the highly dim picture on EDSM as I get him to scout for POIs.

I'm submitting three pictures to choose from and fixed the description a bit, adding some relevant stuff for those visiting the nebula. As always, your judgment will be the best.

me:Trifid Sector DH-K a9-6 (Trifid Nebula)
Game map search ref:Trifid Sector DH-K a9-6
Description:Initially discovered by Charles Messier on June 5, 1764: Its name means "three-lobe." It is situated approx 5,000 LY from Sol, just beyond the more prominent Lagoon Nebula; this object is an unusual combination of an open cluster of stars. It features an emission nebula (the lower, red portion), a reflection nebula (the upper, blue part), and a dark nebula (the apparent 'gaps' within the emission nebula that cause the trifurcated appearance; which designates it as Barnard 85). The nearest outpost, Observation Post Epsilon, is located a mere 20 LY away on Trifid Sector IR-W d1-52, offering all concourse and ship services except outfitting and a shipyard.

Nah, not feeling bad about it - besides i've literally constructed a PC that works in horizons (old tech but hey..) and some sites have been marked down for future Ody research too. Consoles being left behind, i suppose :)

If you come across POI with an obvious placeholder description like "a planetary nebula with a black hole inside" you are welcome to submit an alternative. However, original descriptions should be left untouched as often as possible in order to appreciate the original submitters' intentions (and skill with words) throughout the years.

The same goes for pictures. We want to preserve as much effort from days gone by and just because Odyssey may provide "better" picture opportunities or graphic capabilities does not mean older pictures are to be replaced. Again, if you see a picture with an Asp flying around and can come up with a picture that better underlines the nature of the POI, please submit. If it's just a brighter nebula picture instead of a dimmer one, we may decline to replace it - depending on circumstances. Pictures that are replaced are lost since they aren't stored elsewhere so they are lost entirely.

What about adding additional information to the original description? Since Odyssey added new things and some of these descriptions were done in the early days. I'm not trying to correct/replace old descriptions. But to make them richer and more informative. Like the one in Morgan's Rock. In this one in particular, I submitted a historical fact, similar to how other entries are and a tip-off for an outpost.

"Left untouched" is the key word.
If the original submitter didn't have all info on the POI or maybe chose to omit some for the sake of his roleplay, it is what it is. We are aware Odyssey created a lot of possible conundrums and inconsistencies and maybe we'll deal with them on a one by one basis. Also, the GMP is not a "historical fact" based astronomical database. It's a place where people can post their findings along with a nice story and a cool name.
