Joystick waggling!

My X52 Pro and pedals arrived today - woo!

I am fairly impressed with the hardware, it's solid and seems well made.

Unfortunately it doesn't click, and the old trick of holding the base and waggling the joystick has got me absolutely nowhere in Daley Thompsons Decathlon :(

Where am I going wrong?

Anyway - it's all nice and shiny, but I don't have a clue on how to use any of it lol. Going to practice for a bit and see what I can program. I definitely want an option to switch to purple mode, uncage the safety trigger thing, press it, and dump 20 tons of Slave Dung :)

Good stuff! I'm still on the fence about which HOTAS system to get. X52, Warthog or CH Fighter Stick and Throttle.... Oh, what to do. I'll probably make a last minute decision when the Alpha lands and I have to have something to get going.

Am jealous! will be going for an x52 pro myself but might not be till new year after just ordering new rig today, i highly recommend looking at x52 pro youtube vids on step by step out of the box guides(they go into tons of details about the stick, watched a few myself lastnight)

the pedels can you use them in ED? have fun with your new toys! :)

@ Asp

Really jealous, that stick looks awsome!

Oh, and thanks for the horrific flashbacks to Combat School on 8-bit. Gaming has thankfully come a long way...

Any specific links of vids you liked that I could get started with? I tried finding some decent vids and mostly I just found unboxings.

to be honest mate they are probably the ones you have seen, as i said they were mainly out of the box guides ie one below

For set up i thought this was good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6cSTldjlE8

for action ones there are some vids, but i really just want details on the functions and how the x52 is rated by the buyers(all good)

half the fun is exploring yourselve with a few hints and tips ;) ps remember i havnt even got it yet, am looking to you to tell me how good it is lol

Not sure, but if you can map an action to a function in ED then maybe yaw control ? (saves twisting your wrist .. might get painful after all that waggling)

unless your use to waggling your wrists alot! lol

yeah the yaw is set in the stick already(but can be turned off) and as you say maybe able to map to the pedals, be interested to hear if anyone else has the pedals and how they use them?

Thanks for the link to that vid TLG. That was good. The stick has clearly lasted for the reviewer.

I'll be sure to let you know how I get on if I go for the x52 pro. I think I'll make my decision this side of Christmas. If I get the Warthog or CH FighterStick instead of the x52 pro, I'll also post about it if anyone's interested.

Yes whatever you decide its worth reviewing the one you get and helping others who are undecided.
Am grateful to the many who answered my zillion questions on buying a new Rig, and the same about the differing flight sticks, i think ive made my mind up on the x52 pro, but if you come in with a great review later on one of the others, am open to suggestions! ;)

I know this has probably been asked to death but indulge me as I haven't stepped into many joystick threads...

do we think/know if having a fancy joystick will be particularly useful/an advantage compared to, say, keyboard and mouse or an XBox joypad?

Mine arrived today as well. First impressions:
Substantial build, no complaints there.
However, I find the centring spring not stiff enough, and the joystick travels too much.
I also have issues with calibration of the Y axis, which I'm trying to fix with adjustments of the dead zones.
So fat tried it on Oolite and Rise of Flight. Works better with the latter.

I looked around and decided to buy the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Joystick, which sell for around £ 40 on Amazon UK. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001CXYMFS/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The reviews are pretty good and considering the price on those other flight joysticks, I think this is going to be a fair compromise. Has anybody else got this thing and can comment on the feel of it?

It was something I was curious about too.

Does anyone have any views on force-feedback joysticks? I am a bit confused to what they do and if its going to be useful for the game.

Also does anyone have a view about the Logitech 3d pro? I've seen it going cheap somewhere..:)

In any case, it looks to be very sophisticated. And it has the approximate value of a commitment of founding member of the Elite

;)

Until I can get it to work in ED, it has a value of 0 lol. Besides, apart from my bills, motorcycle and GF - my PC's are about the only thing I'll really spend money on, and I can see this joystick lasting quite a long time :)

Hey this is my stick, I think they are great value for money. You can stiffen the feel of the stick itself if needed, and the throttle detaches if that floats your boat. They have a good rep. I have had mine a few years now and it is rock solid.

No as in we dont know, until we have at least Alpha, but my hunch would suggest something like the x52 would be more enjoyable as the devs are raving about it! however they were also playing with the Xpad-pc and ive found it works well in Oolite.
I played the org Elite with keyboard and was my fav way....but i think flight-stick is the way i will be going, i guess am covering all angles! lol

Thanks for the info Linwig. "You can stiffen the feel of the stick itself if needed"- I think this is the sentence I'll be using to my wife to explain why I spent 40 quid on an electronic toy...;)
