I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I managed to snag a used X52 for a good price, so I'm happy. Probably not as good a feel as the Pro, but it's still a nice step up from my tiny, old Microsoft joystick I had previously. ;)

I am stil on the fence regarding Saitek x52 pro since the connecting cable dont have a locking feature on it so it might be easy to come off during play, and the x55 seem to be out soon so will wait and see how that compare to the old version. And most shops are out of Stock anyway until 5 dec or 10 dec.

Am starting to think am the poor relation only having an Xpad and keyboard! everyone has an X52 lol

I think the non pro x52 is not much different from the pro other then some metal bits and a few programs modes? i think on the pro you can change the colours on buttons to, but otherwise a great buy

@jan yeah its mentioned about the connecting cable in one or two YouTube vids, but it didnt seem a big concern to the buyers, but again personal choice.

The connecting cable seems a solid fit to me, it has no wiggle to it so far. Of course, it's brand new and will probably feel a bit different after some long alpha sessions :)

It's a PS/2 style connector, and they will eventually wear out. In the good old days of Model M keyboards, the PS/2 cord was detachable for this precise reason. Nowadays no manufacturer would dream of such added cost :(

My keyboard and mouse dont even have cables, so wud hope the New x55 dont come whit cables at all it wud make my cable mess even les clutterd. :D

I thought this review of the X52 was quite informative. They are too expensive for my budget... I'm thinking I might get an xbox type controller to play the game - the guy in the dev diary seemed to have no probs piloting his ship with one and it makes for a relaxed posture whilst playing.

unless your use to waggling your wrists alot! lol

yeah the yaw is set in the stick already(but can be turned off) and as you say maybe able to map to the pedals, be interested to hear if anyone else has the pedals and how they use them?

Rudder control (yaw) in flightsims, some have toe brakes. Of course I don't think rudders would work in space, but perhaps thrusters can create a similar effect.

Agree with you. For my part I will use the keyboard, mouse and XBox controller

Will full HOTAS / CH support be offered?

I'm hoping that ED will have enough cockpit functionality to keep all of my CH buttons engaged. :D

I have no idea how it'll work in ED. This footpedal has yaw and toe brakes, I think there could be some very interesting control possibilities if it can be configured. Retro thrusters, heat vent operation, or even cockpit chair swiveling, who knows?

Looking forward to this :)

Ready, I guess so, but I badly miscalculated the implications of three screens GPU wise. 1 was, well - you want bigger. 2, you have this giant bar in the middle, which gets annoying. 3 - Well, forget it. You don't have the GPU power to do it (which I completely underestimated!), so now I will need to save up for a serious GPU investment or go back to one or two screens (going back to two is annoying because of the tilting of the desk).

But the CH products have brought me a lot of joy, I was ridiculously lucky to pick them up partly used for a silly price. Can't wait to try ED on it! (Forget doing SC with 3 screens or even 2 at current specs)..

One thing I have observed about HOTAS is how large the joystick and throttle is. If you look at that setup, which is nice and impressive, the control system completely dominates the screens.

If I had a such a setup I'd want the controller to be at a lower level than the screens. So Id have to either have the screens elevated with some sort of bracket or shelf or arm or the throttle/joystick somehow attached to either side of the arms on a chair.

So what we really need is a cockpit chair in which these devices can slot neatly into. ;)

Mine arrived today as well. First impressions:
Substantial build, no complaints there.
However, I find the centring spring not stiff enough, and the joystick travels too much.
I also have issues with calibration of the Y axis, which I'm trying to fix with adjustments of the dead zones.
So fat tried it on Oolite and Rise of Flight. Works better with the latter.

Well that is interesting... I own a Saitek Cyborg X and i find the centre far too stiff. I tried playing oolite and found that for minor corrections to keep an enemy in sight was too hard as i found i had to push the stick too far beyond the centre resistance to get movement and then it was too much.

So i would prefer something that allowed for finer/smaller movements.

Stiffness and travel are of course, entirely subjective things.

And I know what you mean about Oolite. I have a cyborg game pad I use for that and I find it much better as a controller for this particular game. Or it could be I need to re-learn how to fly with the x-52!

Oh dear.

It seems that some of us suffer from lack of stiffness whilst waggling our joysticks. I am sure there is a remedy.

Some of us also appear to suffer from excessive stiffness. I am sure there is a remedy.

Length and duration of travel is not for me to comment upon.

All I wanted to know is - how do I barf out Slave Dung into the faces of n00b pirates? ;) I think I have an idea - it's not a working example yet of course, but it'll be one of the first things I try in alpha.

And FD - please, please let's have Slave Dung as a cargo. You can't have all those containers full of them without all the waste going somewhere. Or pilot and crew waste for that matter ;) It's just got to be valuable to someone! Energy! ENERGY! lol
