Just wanted to add...I really do enjoy this stick for the game, it is not bad. I've gotten use to the fidelity of movement with it and can hit objects with fixed weapons but small targets (properly piloted) are going to be a pain-in-the-butt to hit no matter what stick you are using.

Hey now. the extreme 3d pro is not a cheapo joystick. It may cost less than most, but it's extremely effective. It performs well and gets very high reviews. It just has a short life expectancy with regular use (you'll have to buy one every year, but they cost nothing so that's not too bad).

many people have died with my ship under it's control (between this and other multiplayer space combat games).

After playing since release I've only only used k/b & mouse although I do have Thrustmaster HOTAS. Why? Well why would you want to hold a joystick all that time in SC when not much happens and never does until you're lucky enough to be interdicted by pirates. Then hit zero speed and kill them for bounty. I don't see any need to avoid the interdiction unless I was trading in a bigger ship. For now, I'm in a Viper.

just wondering if you guys are running win 8 with it seems to disappear from the controller list sometime. also in the config screen it freezes all the time during it seems weird

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about, lol.
Also, I let go of my joystick in SC.

Lawd, the sexual innuendo in this thread.

Running 8.1 - not a single issue with my stick.
Targeting with fixed is a bit of a pain in the butt, but otherwise the stick is fantastic.

Jumper pretty much got it at his 1st post.

I use Extreme 3D Pro too because getting a Saitek to my city means shipping it over from my country's capital and any warranty issues will need me to ship it back. With Saitek's poor reliabilty I am not risking it (if I hit trouble that means I pay shipping 2 times, the shipping cost already buys me a 3D Pro). Thrustmaster only the Warthog is available (again from the capital) and I need a pedal for that as there's no twist, too expensive for my taste. CH Products are not even sold here. That leaves the Extreme 3D Pro, available locally with nearby warranty service center and cheap as chips om nom nom

I use an old Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 on my right side a solid performer with a keyboard on my left side using the keypad with key bindings for essential stuff.

I miss my old FF2. The best joystick ever made. They still sell second hand on Ebay for about the same price they were when they were new and they were discontinued over a decade ago.

I can't agree on the life expectancy. I bought mine at least 8 years ago when the cat chewed through the cable on my Sidewinder and it's still going strong.

I use the 3D Pro as well. It has many features that are not enabled until you get the proprietary software.

Here is a link to Logitech's own download page for it: http://support.logitech.com/product/extreme-3d-pro#download

I have an old and worn stick. The software allows me to set dead zones and at the same time adjust sensitivity, as well as set individual profiles. This is way better than setting dead zones in game, as those merely subtract a set value to the measured input. In non tech talk: Setting dead zones in game, currently keeps your ship from turning as hard as it can. I don't know if this goes for all sticks, but certainly with this one.

Having the software also enables macros for any button on the stick, as well as reassigning any functionality you would like to.

A couple of words of Warning, though:

- The software profiles are slow to engage. Since I only play ED by stick, I have set the profile I have made to always active. Setting it as anything else, at least with Win 7, causes difficulties engaging the settings.

- Remember that if you set dead zones in the app, you should also increase sensitivity, or you will still lose agility.

- If you decrease sensitivity, you also lose agility: Your maximum potential turn rate is diminished.

- The app unfortunately does not provide a readout while setting dead zones and sensitivity. Luckily, it task swaps well, as does Elite. A bit annoying, but I did manage to find my "perfect" settings at last.

Edit: There is one slight annoyance: You have to let the program read the stick's "new" settings every time you load elite. This is most easily achieved by maxing the stick before launching your ship, just after you have loaded in, i.e: Move it to extreme left, right up and down as well as twisting to maximum left and right. Until you do this, your settings in the proprietary app will not take effect. You only have to do this for the directions you have made changes to, though.

I hope this helps.

So I need this old Logitech Gaming Software from 2010 to run my 3D Pro properly (I just use it plug and play atm)? I use LGS, but the newest version as I need it to run my G710+, G502 and G430. Running 2 ver. Of the same software does not seem prudent to me...

I haven't tried the new software, tbh. If it works with the stick, do tell me.

And do notice the edit I made to my post. It is kind of the deciding factor, whether you want to use it or not.

BTW, I'm not so sure it is two different versions of the same software. Knowing Logitech, it might very well be to completely different programs with the same name.

I can't think of any single-seat fighter aircraft that has throttle on the right side of the cockpit.

Same as in real life. They don't make fighters with left handed stick/throttle arrangements neither. Left handed pilots learn to fly with a right handed stick same as everyone else...

Is this videogame real life? why should I learn to fly with my right hand? I tried it, my arm gets tired very fast and I dont want to ruin my tendons for a videogame. FD wont pay me a salary to play the game (as RL army does with pilots). So no. It's discrimination. Or at least laziness.
