Voice Attack and Joysticks

Hello Commanders,

I just installed Voice Attack a few days ago and it is a blast!! Love talking to my Cobra MkIII (my wife thinks I'm a little crazy though).

Before downloading voice attack I used to use my joystick fire button (button 1) to make a selection in the various menus. I now want to create a Voice Attack command called "Choose" which presses joystick button 1. However, no matter what I do I cannot get VA to recognise a joystick button press (I have gone through all the instructions on the VA website).

I have tried to map the joystick button 1 in voice attack but don't see how to do it. I don't understand the POV/hat jargon and no matter what I seem to do, when I am creating commands in VA it never seems to recognise a joystick button press (even after "activating" the joystick).

Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

With Thrustmaster joysticks, there is Target software that allows you to map the joystick buttons to keyboard keys. This would solve the problem. Don't know about other non-Thrustmaster joysticks though.

Edit: Also, can't you just assign both a keyboard key and joystick button 1 to the same "select" functionality? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the problem...

Hello Frawd,
As far as I know activating the joystick in VA only makes it react when you press a button but doesn't press the button for you. It is possible to install an external tool that makes a virtual joystick but I've never done that myself. My solution was to bind a key to the Ui panel select in the controls next to the joystick button so I have the <enter> key and the joystick button (button 2 in my case) bound to the Ui panel select. In VA I let it push the <enter> key when I say "choose" so I now have 3 options to make a selection in a menu: pressing <enter>, pressing button 2 or saying "choose".

Thanks Cmdr Calvert, I will give that a go (didn't actually realise there was a UI panel select function)

Has to fit thru slot. Too bad, the possibilities otherwise... wow
Dug this up when I googled "Anaconda Profile"

Guess the pad is the size limit since the ship can't be made larger than it, otherwise it couldn't be pulled down into the hangar for outfitting.

Great news..that means by current rate of rank progression, I should get one before my 40th birthday
Before I wanted to rank up, I got to Ensign by accident really, doing things like delivering data to a station in the same system..wow, I sure had the right stuff for the Federal Navy!..nobody could deliver data from one station to another like me!
One more thing, if I included missions that should have activated a promotion, but didn't, due to bugs..Zachary Hudson would be saluting me and bringing me my mail (post commander? anybody?)!

That post was made before they added more ranks in 1.3

The Federal Corvette might just require one of the Admiral ranks.

I did think they're all starting to adopt the same style. I hope we see a little more variation, the Empire certainly has them, but then this could simply be the Federation utilitarian styling so it would fit in a way.
They all need to cope with atmospheric flight and that will dictate the general shape. Pointy at the front with a blunt aft shape.

Can confirm that is a PhotoShop I did to show how the Corvette would fit on a large pad.
The problem with it is we don't know how far the camera is to the ship. It could be much bigger or smaller but look the same because of perspective. Placing that on a pad is pretty much a guess and not actually representative.

It could fit a small pad!!! lol

Well, when will they drop the CQC update anyways?
First I've read it's supposed to come out in September, then other sources say it's later this year for PC, could someone clarify?

It's an educated guess based on ship scales and what we know. Frontier have stated that the Corvette will be the largest flyable ship in the game. If you scale the image to fit on the full length of a large pad, it would be one third larger than an Anaconda, which fits with what we've been told and would mean it would fit through the station doors and be able to land on a pad.

For comparison, here it is again. This time overlayed on a parked Anaconda for scale. I'm almost certainly wrong (it is a guess based on concept art after all), but we'll find out in October when 1.5 ships (if you'll pardon the pun!).

I'm not sure I understand why you need it to recognize the joystick buttons. All of the commands in the keymappings have 2 slots. I use one for joystick and the second for a keyboard key. Then just map your VA command to the keyboard key to choose.

--Edit: Oops. Didn't fully read J. Calvert (Joshua)'s response. I think he is saying the same thing.

Once again, the Corvette will not necessarily be the biggest flyable ship. They said it's the biggest Federal player ship. There's a lot of room between the Dropship(s) and the Anaconda.

It's really hard to get this idea out of people's heads.

Hold on, will the Corvette come out with 1.4 or 1.5?
