It sounds like you've already figured this out but for reference Roll Left and Roll Right are digital inputs. When the input is pressed you will roll at 100% thrust. Or in the case of binding a joystick axis, when the stick is moved more than half distance from centre you will roll at 100% thrust. Roll Axis is an analogue input. The harder you push the stick the more you will roll. Use an axis wherever possible!

As for finding the docking pad, you can use the blue radar dot on the left of the HUD to find the general direction of the pad, then look for the holographic number above it. If you're landing at outposts you can refer to the outpost guide to find your pad.

Has anyone ever had one or more buttons stop responding in the game?

I just had an issue with the pinkie trigger on my Warthog refusing to respond while playing. Mashed it a good 20 or 30 times, tried pushing it down with my finger instead of the lever, wiggled it to make sure there wasn't anything loose, nothing worked.

I had another bug going on, but I'm trying to figure out if this is part of the bug or not. Just lost my ship in a CZ because I couldn't boost, my engine pips wouldn't change and I couldn't jump out. Just 2 minutes of me flying in a straight line being shot while I tried to figure out what the hell was happening. I closed the game and checked in the stick to make sure it was working in the GUI, everything was fine, logged back in and everything worked. Need to figure out if this is another known issue that is separate or if I should include it in my support ticket as part of the same problem. Was most likely something on my end but I'll just make sure.

Edit: And yeah, I checked the nut at the base while flying and it wasn't loose. So it was almost definitely something software related, either ED or Thrustmaster.

Are you running controller software or just the usb device?

i notice also that the joystick doesnt work when elite has no focus. Perhaps a tool in the background pulled focus.

It wasn't a complete disconnect though, I still had steering and the majority of my buttons, it was just my pinkie trigger and my left 5d hat that stopped working.

Hello all

Did anybody know the company "Stirling dynamics" in Bristol uk?
I walked past and they actually make proper joysticks for flight trainers....
And I mean proper ones not the diy type.
It would be cool to get one those....

With Saitek - yes, I have had partial failure of the controller while the game was running. With generic HID controllers like the Thrustmaster, no. Given this, I would point at the drivers/software/hardware for the controller you are using.

The name does sound familiar, but not from personal interaction. I believe they have a good reputation though.

Thanks for the useful guidance. I have since discovered that the station I was trying to land at has external landing pads and you don't enter through a portal!!

I was using the combo of a T16000m and CH USB Pro Throttle for the last year: The CH throttle is really excellent for 6DOF space sims because it has a proper thumb joystick which gives you two good analog axes for strafe, in addition to a whole bunch of hats and buttons for other functions plus the main throttle axis. I've also tried dual T16000m but for me the throttle is more comfortable and more functional due to better button layout than a second stick would give, while still offering as many analog axes.

However while the T16000m stick movement is very nicely weighted and the accuracy is excellent (lovely hall sensor) the button ergonomics are really awful and the buttons themselves are very low quality. So I finally bit the bullet and replaced the stick with a stand-alone Warthog stick.

After a couple of days testing I'm enjoying this combination, although the weight and the button tension on the Warthog is higher than the T16000m so it takes some getting used to. I was also surprised with just how much taller the stick is due to the very large base: it feels like my hand is around 10cm higher using the Warthog on the same desk surface. The good news is that the button ergonomics on the Warthog are much better, and the feeling of using the stick is much more satisfying. I'm missing yaw-on-twist only during landing so far, having mapped it to a hat for now.

Another joystick question thrustmaster t16000.m & FA

I have the above joystick and have pretty much mastered flying in elite with flight assist ON, however if i turn FA off my ship immediatly reacts like a wasp on crack cocaine :) if i make a manuveour of some kind it over reacts and i immediatley have to make a counter movement to compensate for this. i have check my settings and compaired them to thers on the forums and everything seems the same so i ma not sure what i need to tweak next?
any help appreciated i really want to master the flight assist off in this game.

thanks

FA-OFF means the craft is no longer assisted, this means what ever you tell it to do..it will keep doing until you tell it do something else!

Ah right so with FA off it is a case of constantly tweaking movement by control alone. I thought it was the joystick not setup right. No i see i am a heavy handed sod lol.

Cheers

I'm using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick in combination with a Logitech G13 keypad. The stick itself has a good number of buttons on it (and so does the base - but I'm not using those). The G13 has loads of keys and also has a thumb joystick that I use for throttle. So, I don't need an (expensive, bulky) HOTAS setup and yet I have more buttons available than any HOTAS offers. Added benefit of the G13 is also that it supports teamspeak applet. So, you can see TS chat, who's speaking, change channels, etc.

With a list price of $79 the G13 keypad is everything but cheap for a 25 key keyboard. Looks awesome though. Especially the customisable backlit keys are nice.

Mouse Cursor control with X52

This may already be covered but i cant find it. Im brand new to the game, running an X52 HOSTA, keyboard and mouse. As of now my mouse moves my pilots head and i need mouse cursor control to run the cockpit panels. How do i unmap the mouse from the pilots head or whatever? Love the game, hate how vague instructions are for navigating screens ingame and the lack of info for keyboard mapping for joystick control.

Joystick Twist-Animation for enhanced immersion?

I know that the Elite Joystick ingame is leant to the Saitek Models.

I'm using the Thrustmaster "T.Flight Hotas X" for about a year now and I love it! Especially the Joystick Twist-Function is nice! I use it to turn left and right.

Wouldn't it be cool, when the Joystick ingame turns left and right too? I think that would be awesome!

Or the rudders should animate when yaw is done.
