Hey everyone,

Apologies if my use of the search function isn't up to par but I haven't been able to locate any information on whether or not it's possible to calibrate joystick axis. I pledged Premium Beta today (Woohoo! Glad to join you guys!) and I've been playing on my X52 Pro. The game locked up due to alt tabbing a couple of hours ago, and since then the pitch axis of my joystick has been near non existent - the ship is in perpetual spin, and only responds when I pull back as far as possible.

I've tried restarting the game, my computer, I've made sure the joystick is still functioning in other games, so short of reinstalling Elite I'm not sure what to do. Any insight would be greatly appreciated - if I can solve this without wasting Frontier's time on a known issue ticket, I'd prefer to.

Cheers!
I had similar problem, and it turned out that E: D doesn't like other controllers being plugged in* - reported as a bug & it should be fixed, along the ability to use two controllers together (like joystick & pedals) later, like Alpha 4.0 or first Beta.

*I had my wheel & pedals unpowered, but plugged in

That seems to have fixed it, thank you! And thanks everyone else for the replies.

Joystick help please

I hope some of you kind people can help me I have just upgraded to premium beta and am struggling to get used to using a joystick as I have never used one before. I have a speedlink Black Widow and while there seems to be a profile for it in the game I cannot get it to work and I have tried to use a custom profile I am still struggling to fly properly and am at present stuck on the Recon Wing part so any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello there

I'd start with a look at this thread...

http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=14867&highlight=tips

I'm not familiar with your joystick, but would add that in general experience is a good teacher, so playing around with the toxic waste canisters can teach a lot about throttle control, how to move about, how to circle objects etc. It's easier to do at first if you are not being shot at before working up to other things.

Good luck, stick with it. You will improve.

Hi PSG,

The profile for the Black widow doesn't seem to work.

Other users have had problems with it too, I made a custom profile based on the Saitek FLY5 one, once I had set the throttle to full range, and remapped the buttons it seemed to work for me. That said, none of the buttons work when the hat is set to head look mode. I think that once I am able I will upgrade to a less limited stick.

I shouldn't worry about never having used a joystick before, lots of time to practice , and I think a lot of us who played games back in the age of joysticks, are pretty rusty! (Disclaimer: Flight sim fanatics excepted, personal rustiness quotient may vary, incorrectly set pitch may go down as well as up ...)

Joystick throttle calibration

Hi all
Has anyone else found any issues with their joystick throttle range not in calibration with their ships throttle?
Having been playing the Beta missions and enjoying them i have found myself somewhat frustrated and irritated that the throttle position totally does not match where i set it on the joystick. I am using a Logitech Extreme 3DPro (USB) which continues to serve me well.
Its almost like the throttle starts at 50% (0 throttle on the stick) and goes up to 100% (50% on the stick) and then starts again at 0 and then goes to 50% (100% on the stick). Weird.
I've tried unplugging and re-plugging the joystick to no avail.
Hope there will be a calibration option when the game is released, dont really fancy forking out £100+ for a new joystick.

That's the same joystick I have, and I have no problems with it - at least, not since I found the settings I like.
It sounds like you have the same throttle setup as me: 0 thrust is in the middle, forward is forward and back is reverse. (I think you had to invert it).
I'm pretty sure there's an option to have a toggle switch between forward and reverse thrust, in which case I suspect you would/could use the whole range of the throttle for one direction.
Or have I misunderstood?

Hi Mysturji
Yes, i've gone back to the game and tried it again, you are correct. I went through the help pages, it doesnt say anything in there about the throttle positions (would have been helpful IMO). Should fly better knowing this :)
Now i know how it should be, so i have no further concerns. Thanks

Xbox 360 Controller Mappings Help!

I upgraded from my Kickstarter package to Premium Beta this week so I can get a feel for flying the Sidewinder. I am using an Xbox 360 Contoller with the default settings, pad + yaw.

Controlling the ship is difficult, it took me AGES to complete the 3rd mission, I have seen videos of people doing it less than a minute so I am sure I am missing something here.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to configure custom mappings for the Xbox 360 pad to improve control and use of the ship.

Programming Thrustmaster Warthog Toggle Switches

Hi

I'm the lucky owner of a TM Warthog, and as you may know it has some permanent toggle switches on the throttle base. (permanent meaning that they click into place) I was thinking that these would be great for operations like; gear down/up, deploying hard points. but at the moment I cant think how to program them.

It seems to me that there would have to be a separate key assignment for both states, Key "A" for gear up and key "B" for gear down. Without this the switch could still work but it would need to be set to the correct orientation before loading into the ship.

My first question is; am I missing a trick to the programming or something?

The other question is; is this a issue that has been pointed out to the Devs? and how likely is it that something like this would be implemented?

I realise that there are probably not very many users of the warthog compared to other joysticks so this may not be very important to most, but it would be a lovely feature to have if possible.

If I have missed where this is discussed or have posted in the wrong place sorry but I couldn't find anything with a search.

Thanks.

That's how I've done it, so for lights I used Target to send "L" upon push up, and "L" again on push down. It gets out of sync though if you forget, leave your lights on when you dock/save/quit. If you don't reset the switch it will be in the "ON" position with the lights off, as off is the default ship position at game/scenario start. (thinking about deploying hardpoints is a better example actually). It's no biggie, but may cause confusion.

You can also, if you like, tell TARGET to turn the LEDs on on the throttle when certain switches are used, so you could tie the throttle being illuminated to (say) undercarriage deployed once that's implemented as a separate keybind.

Yes there are not that many of them so it would not be too difficult to just do a check before loading that the switches are in the right place, but it would be nice to not have to bother! ;-)

I don't have alpha access, I assume that gear down, lights off and hardpoints shut is the default starting position when loading into a docked ship? If so I will just set it up to assume that, and will have to remember to check. ;-)

Thanks

(Thanks for putting this in the right place T.j)

Buy a joystick ;o)

X55 Rhino

The stick works fine but the throttle doesn't as Elite D doesn't support 2 sticks yet on the beta. Hope they fix that soon as the pedals i have will be great for yaw etc

Pre flight check? By the way you set the keystroke to pulse in the Target software.

Yeah that's what I'll do, a quick check before loading. As long as the docked ships all have the same default status, (gear down, lights off, that sort of thing) then it should not be too bad.

But separate switches would be lovely! Pretty please? :)

Yeah Pulse mode on the toggle switches.

Cheers.
