I am using a very old Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 joystick with the generic profile and one small customization to enable forward thrust only from the u-axis integrated throttle slider. I much prefer the joystick over a mouse or Xbox 360 controller for combat and maneuvering. Microsoft dropped support for this device back in 2005. :)

This. They just refuse to die! Best thing Microsoft ever did.

I am using CH FighterStick,CH Pro Throttle with profile downloaded from Dom Davis site. Works well. Cannot believe no CH options in questionnaire.
Similar story here. I used Dom's profile as a basis, but modified it quite a bit since I also have the pedals (for yaw) and TrackIR.

I didn't buy my CH gear for Elite, though. I've had it for years from flight simming. That's why I have a TrackIR 3 not 5. Still, it all works very well and (to me) really adds to the game. I started out with M/K just for the experience, but would never switch back now.

REcalibrate Joystick?

Hi I'm using a Logitech Extreme 3D joystick yesterday it was working perfectly today when I log in my craft is constantly rolling around the centre axis, theres no problem with the joystick I think its Elite causing this

I'm using the same. Callibrated at first use and no problems since. Have used them in the past and had issues but even then only required re-calibration occasionally.

Microsoft Precision Sidewinder 2

1st Post - Go easy folks...

Took Indiana Jones to find it in the attic, but works fine once the throttle had been mapped. Just got to work out how to fly properly now.....

Speedlink Blackwidow joystick combined with G25 pedals (yaw) and TrackIR, plus an old Saitek Aviator joystick (with broken X axis) for a few extra key bindings as I like the toggle switches. All mounted around a Playseat.

joystick newbie

hey guys, just purchased the game, tried to use my old logitech attack 3 joystick but it does not get recognised in settings. do i plug the joystick into the pc before i launch the game or do i plug it in when i am in the settings ????. any help would be greatfully recieved. many thanks in advance

Plug it in when you are at the desktop. Then launch the game. Once in the game, go to Options, Controls and the first line it will say "Presets" To the right of that, click the pull down and choose "Generic Joystick"

This is all assuming that Windows recognized your joystick.

You plug the joystick in before you play the game. Check if it is fully functional under Windows in "Devices and Printer" and calibrate if needed. Once in the game go to the options - control menu and scan the preset pull-down menu for your stick. If it is not recognized by name, select generic joystick and set it up to your preferences.

Binding mouse headlook to Joystick

Hi,

I want the mouse headlook to be bound to the pov button on my joystick. The mouse headlook works but I have bound the look up key to the pov stick up, look left to pov stick left...etc.

The mouse still does headlook and it works well but the pov stick does look left right up and down but takes ages!

Tried:
Change accumilative to direct. Doesnt work like the mouse headlook. Snaps immediately there.

I just want mouselook to be bound to the pov stick on top of my joystick :)

I need to configure my hat to headlook and can't figure out how to configure it

The only effective way I found was to bind a single button on my stick to headlook, then use the stick to look around. Obviously the ship controls don't respond when active but I used it just for a quick look around. Felt the hat switch was better served for quick target selection (I only have one hat)

Wanted complete freedom to look around so just invested in TrackIR, massive, massive improvement to gameplay. There are cheaper options too, EdTracker, freetrack etc

So my Joystick broke.

Thing was, I was pretty shot up after a collision with a NPC pirate viper. (I am in a Cobra).

My joystick was inputing maximum left yaw and there was nothing I could do to stop it. At the time I assumed the game was modeling damage to the control system.

Landing my ship at an outpost for repairs was extremely challenging escpecially given the layout of the pads as there was no clear straight run up to the assigned landing bay.

I actually felt pretty good about landing my ship under these conditions.

Turns out my joystick was just broke tho. :-(

Anyway, given that experience, seems to me that modeling damage to control systems would be pretty cool imo and lead to some hairy, pulse raising moments.
