I'am flying with a Thrustmaster 1600M in the mainhand and a Logitech Attack 3 in my offhand. It works great, the throttle is better on the Logitech, but the Thrustmaster is more precise. I control the thrusters with the Logitech and pitch, yaw und lateral with the Thrustmaster.
Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar from 2008 with Uber2Nxt steel gimbals mod and hall sensors for stick and throttle. Also Simped rudder pedals with toe brakes and standard hall ssnsors. After nearly 7 years no wear and tear. All functions programmed to use HOTAS buttons. TrackIR 5 replaced my TrackIR 4 as it had a broken sender.

Started in Beta with logitech extreme 3d pro coupled with voice attack.
Now I have the CH fighterstick, pro throttle and pro pedals with the rift. Voice attack is not as useful now since I actually still have button combos that are not assigned to anything, but I'm thinking or re-adding some functions for immersion.

Old but good enough with keyboard. Twist rudder, gas lever, 1 8directon hat, 8 buttons.

I'm new & have not started yet, although have downloaded ED. I'm filling my "homework" notebook for preparation with commands & functions. I'll be using my Logitech 3D Pro & have a NIB X52 if I feel the need. I've watched many videos to gain some perspective with overall platforms & goals so as to have a decent initial immersion. I've seen some vids of the "Voice Attack" function that looks to be a good parameter......how is it implemented? I have voice coms with a Turtle Beach Earforce Z2 & the option for using Teamspeak if needed. Thanks from an OLD 'ol timer(71).

Saitek X55
I just ordered one, it better be good! Atleast it's better than my current Thrustmaster that cost me staggering 30€...

i can not recommend the Saitek X55 at all . I had two and both had similar Problems. One you open the thing you are shocked. The build Quality is really rubbish.
I wondered why many People on the Flight Forums had to "customize" their X55s by replacing ALL cable connections inside the joystick/thrust, but after i opened the thing i know what they are talking about.
Also many People have Problems with the Thrust being too "stiff"....well Saitek reaches the "stiffness" by putting some disgusting kind of good inside the Thrust which tends to get less stiff once the goo gets "warmer" from moving the thrust forth and back for a few times but immediately turns stiff again once it cools down (which can happen in a few seconds without moving it). So the Wheel to adjust Stiffness is actually bull.
In my case the lower right POV got worn out by playing Elite after about 20 weeks and started to become unresponsive.
On the replacement of course same Problem with the Thrust(LETS GOO!) and the Pinky Switch (by default assigned to Flight Assist on/off) suddenly broke off without any kind of force(once you see how that thing is attached by cheapest plastic it's no wonder).
So my summary...this Joystick is not worth it's money at all. It looks nice, it has a ton of functionality but the build quality plus the used materials are really cheap and low quality.
For People that want to stick with it and have the Problem with the "stiff" Thrust, i can provide you with a solution.

Had many Saiteks in my "career", wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Long ago they used to make good hardware, but now...
Let's just say I had to send my x52 Pro back to them. Three times. For the same fault.
Now flying with a Warthog, but from what experienced anything made by Thrustmaster is of similar quality (not counting the materials used of course).

The slider is not recognised by ED but you can use it. I have Flight Assist on mine. I've bound Flight Assist to a keyboard key in game and made the button mode [hold] rather than [toggle]. Then I've macro'd the slider in the Saitek software to operate the key. As long as the slider is in the left hand position nothing happens. When it is the right hand position it is 'holding' the key down.
The mouse nipple can also be set (in Saitek software) to emulate mouse movement - select the mouse x axis and mouse y axis options. Its not brilliant but it does work for whatever you assign the mouse axes to in-game (I have mine to headlook movement - but I must admit I prefer using the mouse for this as I have 'activate headlook' assigned to mouse 3.
I've not tried using the mode switch yet - logically you should be able to set alternative macros to the same throttle/joystick buttons and it shouldn't affect the in-game bindings, but whether logic is logical or not I've yet to discover...
To anyone who asks 'what control do you recommend' I say - An X-55 Rhino. It has more buttons than you can shake a stick at
