I think it does, though I have not tried without it. I got a Thrustmaster HOTAS X for around £35 and it does the job well, has plenty of buttons to customize.

The only thing I have not set up on the joystick is power pips [I use voice attack or keyboard] and some rarely used items like scoop. But that is up to you.

I have been thinking about changing my set up, as I do not use prev next target as much so I might use those.

I have Hotas X, using the hat switch to control pips, only cost about 30 quid.

I find it so much easier than mouse

One question.. is this the right thread to post a controller support request?

I would like to use "racing pedals" (any kind) as yaw axis (rudder)! It is not possible to assign the proper axis for that use. I would like to map the gas pedal to yaw right and the clutch pedal to yaw left.

Elite tho wont allow you to setup yaw left or right as a separate axis. It only allows you to use buttons or one axis for yaw.

Maybe someone did already managed to get his racing pedals to be used as rudder? Some hints would be appreciated. thanks.

Hope that makes sence to you.

I have my right hand on a stick with hats and buttons beneath my fingertips to control flight, weapons, countermeasures, targeting etc.
The throttle under my left hand controls thrust, thrusters, menu navigation, FSD, boost, lights, landing gear, cargo scoop, silent mode etc. etc.

To me it feels better and more immersive than a keyboard and mouse. Everyone is different though.

Also got my feet in rudder pedals, an IR tracking target on my head and a separate precision 3d mouse for thrusters. Depends how far you want to go.

My main throttle axis is set to forward only. And I had investigated mapping the Toe Brakes (similar to gas/brake pedals) on my CH Pro Pedals to Forward & Reverse. It would be faster and less confusing than toggling the throttle to reverse altogether and having to toggle back to forward.

Couldn't make it work. Conflicted with the main throttle axis.

I use my T-Flight Hotas and it works quite well, even with FA off it is decent enough

however, the joystick has rather high deadzone and doesn't have enough weight to feel comfortable when detached from the HOTAS

one problem also is that you can't look around without losing buttons for your Energy placement (wep, sys, nav)

any tips for that? using voice activation for the system pips is to slow and i feel very uncomfortable using FreeTrackNoIR, so i won't even consider getting EDTracker or TrackIR

You can adjust the deadzones for the ministick axes in the game as well. I had too since I've mapped boost to the Ministick push. (no accidental boosts in the dock! :) )

Not quite the same there, that's deadzone. Emphasizing either the near or the far end of the axis is much better than that. It's part of what makes the CH set so great, despite it's rather dated looks. And absolutely no other setup puts 32 buttons at your fingertips without mode switching.

Went out and grabbed a Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X last night before buying the game.
This is the first flight sim game I've played since a Playstation 1 space shooter series whose name I cant seem to recall now.
I'm having a tough time getting through the training so far.
Seems to be a pretty steep curve for me at the moment but I'll keep practicing until I can get through them quickly and hopefully see you all in the game soon.

is there a way to save your Hotas controller layout? i mapped everything and was all setup. Logged on the next day without my hotas plugged in and all of my custom controls reset to default...even after plugging in my hotas all my controls were defaulted.

I have a CH combatstick and yesterday I ordered the CH Pro Throttle through amazon.com(US); the problem is that I may not get it until mid April!!! I don't know if I want to wait that long and my question is what else could I use to replace it?
Thanks.

Ho bin

Your setup should be saved as custom, when you start the game without the hotas it switches the setting to keyboard and mouse.
Plug in first your controler, restart ED and select CUSTOM setting.... Then you should have your setting again.

Its alo helpfull to copy and rename then custom.binds file, because its the file thats get used for all changesyoumake on the default settings!!

Poor one , cheap one, Genius MetalStrike 3D

Working well for it's price, it cost here only 20 euros, it is robust build, as I am big man , quite old for gaming but still love to play, father of 2 children , where one is big enough to play as well :p

More bout joystick , it suits my big hands well, flaying with it well however not so precise and soft moving to be able to use well fixed weapons so I am on gimbaled. Game does not handle very well speed control with ruder of this joystick so using buttons for controling speed , managed to set up all things on joystick very well , love to play with it .

When I am on job if I have some free time I do play but there I using play by mouse /keyboard, mouse is gigabyte gaming 4000 dpi , it working well

Voted Other:

CH Combatstick (the buttons are preferable to the hats on the fighterstick)
CH Pro Throttle
CH Pro Pedals

CH scripting engine is DIVINE. Some examples:

I have two pinky buttons acting as "shift" modifiers; one on the throttle, and one on the stick. Either one can be held to access a second function on any button or hat switch. Holding both together accesses a THIRD function on any button or switch (with a bit of additional coding). For example, I have double-shifted primary fire for Deploy Hardpoints, which works as a nice failsafe.

Toe brakes for reverse thrust, split 50-50 between both toe brakes. Press one toe brake fully is 50% reverse, press both toe brakes fully is 100% reverse. With a healthy deadzone so I don't trigger reverse thrust accidentally. This is quite nice as I don't need to change my main throttle position at all for reverse thrust; the toe brakes override the main throttle until they are released.

One of the hat switches on the pro throttle lets me access and navigate the panel views; switching to or from any panel, and also navigating the tabs while the panels are shown. The script enters and exits a special "panel mode" automatically.

Highly recommend the CH gear!

Joystick Roll Axis Help Please

Hello All

To play ED I have dusted off my VERY old Microsoft Sidewinder joystick.......must be 10-12 years old........just a stick with a few buttons......it works fine, but........

When I push the stick forward or back, I can make very fine adjustments to my pitch........small stick moves, small pitch moves......big stick moves, big pitch moves.........but, this is not the case in roll........when I move the stick left or right, no matter how small a move I make, or how gently I move the stick, it just "gets to a point" and goes to full roll authority.......I've got my deadzones set up ok, understand how they work and why...........and I have kind of lived with it to now, and it does make getting through the letter box interesting.........but, any ideas how I can set it up so I can do fine roll moves with it like I can with pitch control?

Cheers :)
