Has to be the Thrust master T1600M. Nothing comes close in the price range.

If I didn't already have my HOTAS and was in the market for a budget stick it would be this 100%

I believe the Logitech Extreme 3d pro has a few more buttons in the stick no? I.e. does the Thrustmaster have a thumb secondary trigger (Logitech´s thumb secondary trigger is second to none, it s just so perfectly positioned for my hand size! :p )? I also see only 3 buttons on the top (in addition to the hat switch) of the TM whereas Logitech´s has 4 plus hat switch, correct?

I have both the Logitech and the Thrustmaster and the latter is the winner IMHO, although Logitech's thrust slider is much better.

Out of everything that's been offered already I have to say that none of them compare to this in terms of ergonomic comfort and response. Not to mention the price.

It's what I use. Plenty of buttons to use. I never take my hands off the stick by using the 2-button mapping ability in the game's control mapping. The precision is needle sharp. It 'feels' really expensive and smooth and has a good weight to it. There's also an adjustable 'stiffness' on the stick. I set mine to the loosest possible and it's so smooth to operate. The buttons are clacky and responsive and they're all placed intelligently to fall right under your fingers with the throttle sat on your left thumb. I couldn't recommend a better stick for the price.

Edit: For $99 you can get the thrustmaster Hotas though. If you've got $100, get that. Hands down.

The Thrustmaster T1600M has 4 buttons on the stick.
Don't forget the hatswitch can be used as an extra 4 buttons if you have head-tracking.

What you're mainly paying for with that stock is the precision and longevity of the sensors in the X / Y axis.

Footprint, weight are a bit undersized for good stability IMO. Not bad otherwise.

One more vote for the Logitech Extreme Pro 3D. Awesome Joystick. Have mine for more than 5 years now. Has never let me down.

I thought about getting a HOTAS when I started playing ED, and I tested some of the Saitek products. But in the end i decided I prefer the feel and build quality of the Logitech stick. I added a CH Pro Throttle to get the HOTAS feeling, but Logitech + 1 hand on Keyboard also works very well.

Edit: I cant comment on the T.16000 though. It has a lot of good reviews, might also be a great choice.

The precision of the T.16000 is next to almost none. The hallmark sensors really does the trick.

Be that as it may, that stick looks really awkward to use, the button placements look far from ideal and the whole thing looks really square and boxy and not enough tactile feedback on the buttons with them being unnecessarily flat. The stick might be unusually precise, but that is one of many considerations to take in to account.

I just bought a Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 for playing Elite... could've gotten this t16000 thing for the same price. Wonder if I did a mistake...

...nah, just kidding. Bought the joystick for all my joystick needs, including most notably flight simulators which I've pretty much been unable to play due to lack of joystick for years now. :)

I use a MS Sidewinder 2 (paired with a Saitex X45 throttle unit) and shelved a nearly new Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.

By my reckoning the Logitech was clumsy and inaccurate and so if the OP was willing to look for a decent used MS Sidewinder 2 on eBay I'd highly recommend it.

i vote for Extreme Pro 3D cause i fly it in Elite and works great + this joystick plus voice control - i almost dont need keyboard
