I'd get your money back if I were you Mick.

If the seller doesn't want to refund an obviously faulty stick (it broke in the first weeks use!), then go via Ebay's dispute/complaints route. HERE.

Get your money back and get a different stick. Maybe the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X.

The Joystick Is mainly okay.....

He broke his stick with his hand while playing with it. What's hard to understand? Happens a lot apparently....So my Gran told me...

And still works and with the careful application of some yellow sticky-tack Button #2 still works if I'm careful with it.

Right now, I deciding whether or not to contact Gamesmen and Ebay about the joysticks early breakage.

Well, scratch my last. I've tried to order online from three different (national) stores and they all called me back to say the listed T.16000M is unavailable or according to them completely discontinued. This is quite possibly just because of the quality of these stores and the state of this particular market segment, especially here, but could it be possible that it also indicates Thrustmaster's itntention to release a new stick to replace this with in the near future? I guess that's a stretch...

I've also e-mailed Thrustmaster to ask if it's true that it's been discontinued.

Edit: Thrustmaster replied. Funny use of English.

Good afternoon,
The T-16000 is not end of life.
I will ask our wholesaler in Greece to contact you,
Thanks and best regards
Maybe I'll get a better deal from the wholesaler, crossing fingers!

The relatively common reports of this issue (and the relatively unknown quality of the axis and how long they will last for) stopped me from ordering this over the other sticks in my budget joystick advice thread. Otherwise I adore all the features they pack into this particular model. Since you're even contemplating it you should probably simply ask for the refund asap, then if you don't get it you can use it like you're doing now anyway, but if you do get a refund then you can either buy a different model or even the same one and possibly get luckier so that it lasts longer now you know to be more careful with it. No downside to asking.

Guys, a quick tip on anything falling off:

SUGRU... check it out. Silicone based hardening material to refasten or mold stuff. Works great to make a generic joystick into something molded just for your hand. I've already ordered.

Waiting for that joystick to turn up myself. I'll report on it when it arrives.

Sorry, I thought this thread was about something else.

I have the Saitek Fly 5 and haven't had any problems with it. It does feel a bit plasticy and I've made efforts not to mash the buttons too hard or yank the stick around. Personally I've found (in Alpha) that the more controlled my actions are, the more success I seem to have. So I hope it isn't going to chuck it's hand in any time soon.

Follow up e-mail from Thrustmaster.

Hi
As indicated yesterday I asked our wholesaler to contact you.
The thing is that I am not sure that they have the product in stock, so probably nobody has it on the market.
You can check Internet. Amazon?
Thanks
...Logitech Extreme 3D Pro it is, I guess. I hope it will last for me.

Edit: I told him the same thing (politely) and he replied (quite fast) to tell me he'll once again try to work something out. We'll see.

Edit: two days later nothing new yet, in the mean time yet another store I tried said it's out of stock & discontinued. Out of stock on Amazon UK too now. That seems really fishy to me even though Thrustmaster denied the product being discontinued. Not that I'd buy from the UK, I do when I have more than one product in mind and save money compared to national prices, not for this.

Edit: well, finally after a whole damn month of Thrustmaster's representative leading me on and then even ignoring my case after the last claim of trying to work something out with their contact in Greece, even after I e-mailed again the following two days, I managed to get a response that seems legit. Frustrated after trying yet another store and getting the same talk of a discontinued product the next day, I once again used the Thrustmaster contact form and the same guy from before answered:

Apparently they recently switched partners in Greece and only just returned to the market though their new partner doesn't yet stock the T.16000M. Why on earth he couldn't have told me that a month ago so that I would not waste my time trying to find the product only to be repeatedly told by every store that it's discontinued, while waiting for a follow up to their promises, I have no idea. It makes sense why it's thought of as discontinued here too, if their old partner is simply telling the stores they no longer offer that and the new partner has yet to establish itself in that field. Funnily enough their new partner's site is down at the moment too, so I'm not sure if they sell things directly either. Anyway, if they take too long to stock the item I guess I'll need to find an alternative, though the Thrustmaster guy said he'll see if they can work something out internally I doubt he'll come through.

Do not buy a second hand stick whatever the make is.

Considering your going to be spending many hours interacting with the game via a Joystick/Hotas/controller, why skimp at this point as surely this is the most important and personal part for each individual and how they get the most out of the game.

The most mentioned stick so far is X52 pro perhaps that's a hint.

Totally disagree with you. I currently I have a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro USB. It an oldie, I have owned it from new since the late 90s and it still going strong. After my CH Products Flight stick broke I used in sim extensively and it is still working great. If a ThrustMaster F-16 FLCS (stick and throttle) or the CH Products Combat stick and pro throttle come up be over them like a rash:D They will run rings around an X52 Pro...

For us Lefties, there's less choice. I've dusted off my old Saitek and hope it can cope with the world no longer being Windows 3.1

After some frenzied pressing of Button Two (Situated on the end of the stick on the lower left hand side.) on my Saitek Cyborg F.L.Y. 5 PC Flightstick has now broken off. I was hoping it may have just unclicked and could be re-clicked back into place. But on closer inspection I can see the where plastic had actually snapped apart. It's looks like those buttons were pretty weakly implemented and were likey to do this. It's not like I was bashing the stick against he desk. I merely releasing some missiles in Mission Four of the Elite - Dangerous - Game Alpha.

With the careful application of small wad of Blu-Tack, it seems to be fixed for the time being . I just tested it now in the same mission and it still works. Providing I press it more carefully and I will be pressing the other buttons just like it more carefully as well.

I had my doubts about this joystick's design when looking at it's photos, but brought it anyway, because of the Saitek brand name and that it was only $60.00 AUD. Perhaps the Gamesmen who I ordered it from via Ebay early last month may replace it or refund me. As I said, I don't think I abused it in a way it shouldn't have been. If I can find the receipt, perhaps they will.

Saitek isn't a good brand-name. If you said CH Products or Thrust Master Cougar/Warthog I would agree...

I was going to buy this stick before splashing out on a x52. It looks the business with plenty of input options.
Maybe you had a faulty one, Mick. I'd definitely see if you can swap it for a new stick.

Thrustmaster Flight Stick X

I get ready to buy a Thrustmaster Flight Stick X.
I would like to know if it is possibile to set the throttle to go backward.
Someone have one?

I've never seen anyone talk positively about built-in throttle sliders like that one (at best saying they function) so I don't expect to be using it much regardless of the featureset so I'll be choosing between the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and Thrustmaster T.16000M myself.

Elite: Dangerous - TM Warthog Hotas not working

Hi!

I just dropped in for Elite:Dangerous and downloaded the Alpha client.

But I can't get my controls to work:

  • Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS (Joystick and Throttle)
  • Saitek Pro Flight Combat Rudder Pedals

I tried to map the axis of all the devices:

  • The Pedals work fine, I set them up for YAW axis.
  • The Throttle works fine and gives full control (forward and backwards)
  • All buttons on the stick and throttle unit are recognized.
  • Both Joystick axis are not recognized.

Any advice?

Partially "solved"

Well, when I unplug my Saitek pedals, the Joystick axis are working properly. Although still some of the axis are mixed / messed up, the small joystick on throttle interferes with the main Joystick axis.

Seems that the support for more advanced periperals needs some more love ...
