Mining?

Hey,
So I've decided I'd like to become an trader/miner :D I've started to get the hang of trading now but I would like to know how to start mining. I have a sidewinder still, nothing fancy. I tried googling mining and nothing helpful came up (at least that I noticed). Where do I begin and is mining profitable?

Thanks!

I don't if it's added yet but I'd expect to find the equipment in an Extraction system.

Its not added yet but im guesting you will not have to wait to long and a sidewinder should be able to mine just as the ncp sidewinders do.

Proposal - Finite Mining resources

Again sorry if this has been done but a search brings up all mentions of mining - too many to check so...

I've played Eve a lot - and for that game a mining belt reset of 24 hrs makes sense, but I think with 300bill stars, having real world finite mining resources could force player exploration and progression.

Whether it be slowly dwindling belts; with confrontations started by people muscling in to established miners or groups of players mining out an entire planetoid, I think it could add interesting gameplay mechanics.

You could still have a reset so new players over the years (hopefully) won't be penalised, but a slow timer - like 6 months or a year or something, to encourage people to expand their range.

Plus maybe a few rare ores scattered far and wide, worth a station full of credits, just for that "gold fever" motherlode jackpot feeling :)

There are a few threads on this topic ....mostly started by me :D

I sooooo want mining to be implemented.
I spent a good portion of alpha 1 and 2 floating around asteroids belts, just watching Anaconda's mine :D

We have a cargo scoop already so I would imagine that mining will come in soon. I expect see mining lasers and being able to land and planet a mining machine just as you could in Frontier.

But...some missions require you to "resource this and that", which I thought you did by lasering asteroids at a "resource point"...

I fired away with my regular laser, but nothing came out except for dust, heh.

So how do you "resource materials" like some missions want you to, if mining is not enabled and the way to go?

Are you referring to the missions that say "X station is looking for Y materials"? If so these missions require (at least at this point since mining is not released yet) you to find a station that sells the material and purchase/ship it to the station looking for the materials. Hope that helps.

Many thanks, guess I misread the mission requirements!

Mining

Which ships are best for mining and where can i get mining equipment?

Also I'm wondering how can other ships get me out from SC? Are they using some kind interrupter or what?

Hi Surmav,

Mining has not yet been implemented into this version of the Beta. I expect it will show up fairly soon though.

NPC's are able to haul you out of Frameshift using some kind of interdiction device. At present it is not available to players but again it should show up in a later beta release
