Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

I'm a little bummed about the ladder thing, most of my freighter base builds used those ramps, which I really liked. Had a few crashes, and encountered a few glitches last night but it's par for the course with new updates. One of the great things about HG is how fast they get patches out after an update.

I decided to bite the bullet with my main-save freighter base and reset it (after claiming back the resources, natch) to build a new one using all the new parts. I'm now glad I did, there's a lot still to do but so far it all looks great. I decided to keep everything on the same level for now, no ladders. If I need to build upwards later I'll use teleporters.

Loving the new asteroids and graphic tweaks. My starship's flying feels a bit less 'on rails' somehow too - especially when approaching the capital ship or stations.

After years of dithering, finally decided to get NMS.
I know everybody have their different views but, how I see it, NMS is no replacement/alternative/competitor to ED.
Originally, I hated its looks, but it has improved over time, and once I got free of that unconscious bias that told me "it's ED or NMS", I started loving it.

As I mentioned before, to me it's Subnautica on steroids. It's massive in scope, there's much freedom, but being an arcade game, there's very often a shortcut to do things faster.
And it's not about space at all.

Its main limit, for me, is that it works like a tank that gets empty over time: I always reach a point where I have maxed out everything, and at that point it becomes more like doing daily chores and it all becomes very samey, until a new update (or expedition) goes live, and the tank is topped up again for me to enjoy another hundred hours or so (which is a lot!).

I have thought about this, because it's something that several people have mentioned about ED, repetitiveness, perceived shallowness with the additional problem that updates for ED are very rare; and yet, I have never felt the tank empty, with ED.

NMS is tons and tons of fun, if one gets it in the right way.
But then it's the same with every game.

NMS is basically more accessible. I don't feel cog blocked by NPC. I can go anywhere and do anything. Though that might require collection of mats it feels far less gated on its content than ED.
X is the same. It's far more mandating on the collection and accumulation but that can be done in background by your factories. Which have to be built and that is already lots of time. But it's meaningful time, instead of running around and rolling dice for the stuff you need.

Hello!

It has already been an incredibly busy year for No Man’s Sky with the release of SENTINEL, LEVIATHAN, OUTLAWS and SteamDeck - and Switch, PSVR2, MacOS and more coming very soon!

Today, we are releasing what is probably our biggest update of the year (our 20th major free update). Perhaps fittingly we’re calling it ENDURANCE, and the focus is on freighters, frigates and fleets.

macOS version coming very soon. The contrast with ED could not be stronger. What ED is losing, NMS is gaining.

Oh, i don't see it as a replacement for ED, i think i'll mainly derp around it in creative mode.

What I want to do is try and figure out whether to fly with HOTAS or controller, because with mouse is horrible.

Unfortunately it is not HOTAS friendly, and needs some workaround.
Even with a HOTAS, however, I think the flying model would feel abysmal, it's too simplistic.

Hey I only invited one grass growing weirdo, bloody portal hopping weirdos get off the ship now...

Those are your frigate captains taking a break and stomping all over the place :ROFLMAO:

And on iPad! Crazy what HG is doing. Next is cell phones, maybe even smartwatches...:p
Whilst I appreciate the leap in technology, the more I see companies miniaturising their displays, the worse it gets in my opinion.
NMS is not a game I would ever want to play on a tablet, Steam deck or otherwise stamp sized screen. The bigger, the better.

Yes, being on the move and all that jazz, but given how much I would miss in terms of visuals, I really don't see the point of it*. 🤷‍♂️

* possibly, because as I get older, it becomes harder to see points, and all the other small symbols in general!

You're not wrong. I just played the new update on Steam Deck yesterday, and it's a bit straining for my eyes. I know my kids wouldn't have a problem doing it, but I have to plug in an external monitor and use glasses.

Only a few years ago it wasn't such a problem for me, but it definitely is me getting older. Also a bit slower and not so great with timing, so one of the kids had to help me in co-op in another game. I just couldn't get the timing of running-jumping-crouching 10 different traps. Tried 50 times. One of my kids did it in 2 tries. rolleyes

Yes, the flight model a big issue. If hello improves it with the next patches, the game will finally replace ED for me.
Exactly. I played NMS on PS at launch, and I kind of liked it but quickly got bored, and when Hello Games seemed to be doing a Houdini I lost interest. Recently I bought the game at a Steam sale and last week I finally got everything set up in VR (my Xbox controller was set to the wrong one in one of many menus I since gladly have forgotten).

However, now it works, and after a few days of training my brain and muscle memory I have no problem running around First Person in full VR. Why couldn't Fdev make that happen?!? And Wow! NMS is "much improved" I must say. The latest update that I recieved today even seems to improve VR performance with quite a few visual improvements on top, so yeah! When I get Hotas, and a better flight model I'm all in. I really enjoy the game, but it's hard not to miss some of the good flight stuff from ED. And it's hard not to appreciate the complexity of NMS considering how long it takes Fdev to come up with anything but co$metic$ these days.

Good news for TrollhunterX, it seems like you can encounter and hire the organic frigates in normal play now too. No need for the expedition reward.

What's interesting is that they're going more and more towards gritty and metal looking sci-fi instead of the Duplo style. The interiors of the freighters are looking more hi-tech and fancy. I'm excited to play again. Haven't played since last expedition. Took too much of my energy from the frustration of dying multiple times and starting over.

I noticed the update taking place (which was a lot shorter than ED's) a few days ago, and wondered if this would mean a new expedition?
Was slightly complicated by the fact I'd just acquired a capital ship, and thought the intraship teleportation might be down to that. I did notice that I could now teleport to the freighter, but not from it until presumably I'd put in a new portal.

This all coincides with me getting to Pioneer status, and the Nautilon mission starting, so there's a lot to do.
I didn't pick up the sunken vessel, because I was maxed out on ships, and didn't want to lose the one I was using. I may or may not have gone on to another system, to keep maxing out my slots, but I'm fairly sure the planet, with pink flying serpents, was Kitaa, and returning there shows nothing. Can I actually go back there to have another crack at the ship? I'd started building a base, first time around, but once I'd tunnelled out a space in the side of the 'mesa', realised I didn't have the materials for even a base computer.

I've parkoured all over the frigates, but the only time I managed to leave the freighter without a ship was when I entered a fleet mission room while it was active (there really should be a sign, if not a locked door), and found myself falling...

It was a few weeks back, and I don't recall it being a normal fall towards the planet. Maybe it was glitched, and I would've fallen forever if I hadn't reloaded.

Exp 8 reward spoilers are at the anomaly shop as normal... looks crap this time... bug fixes in coming to console

I do think a better flight model will come to NMS at some stage. This would be a real plus for HG and the playerbase would probably explode again. The reason a number of players sort of give up on NMS is through the current flight model, it just isn't up to par with the rest of the game now, well for me it's not.
