I seem to remember this being a bug in the original game
I think you're referring to the "worm hole" issue, where a ship was able to jump very far beyond its normal capability. It was done by targeting a system at a specific distance, it worked by over-flowing a numeric format in the source code.
Jorki refers to the fact that a ship could mis-jump in an unwanted destination if its wasn't serviced after a while.
While it wasn't of particular use in FE2, it could have been a way to achieve a forbidden jump in ED (a somewhat desperate move, I agree ^^)

Let's just say for now: 3301 may yet crack a few more things and I'll reveal more if some testing yields positive results over the weekend....

I suppose I owe y'all an explanation for my cryptic as hell posting...

Idea is still coming together but I do believe Raxxla might just share a common origin with another mega-mystery: Cicada 3301. Presently compiling information to see if headway cannot be made on the apparently stalled Cicada 3301. I think a framework may be possible to get the unsolved pages deciphered but like Raxxla the odds are not good. Nonetheless, this game and its' crazy mysteries may have gotten me involved in more mysteries. Fun times.

I seem to remember this being a bug in the original game (at least, the Atari ST version of Elite). I can't remember the exact process anymore, but you could basically jump to any point in the galaxy map (whichever of the galaxies you were in), I think by clicking on the map and clicking the system during countdown or something - though someone with a better memory of it could probably give better details.

There was also a way to do crazy jumps in ED, there was some bug (I think FD chose to call it an "exploit") that had people jumping to all sorts of places they should not have. I think a few people managed to jump in to the blocked systems, but found nothing (as you'd suspect with an area blocked off for future content).
Is it all related to this ( https://www.sharoma.com/frontierverse/wormholes.htm )?

I have actually long suspected that the "Witchspace tunnel" is, in fact, a wormhole as it mimicks traversal of a wormhole nicely. You even get the blue flash at the beginning and space folding upon itself as you are ejected at your destination. The blue is from light being concentrated at the entry point as a tunnel is punched through the fabric of space-time. The collapsing on itself is the tunnel unfurling into normal space-time. The effect is most noticeable if you watch at about a 60° angle relative to the Witchspace tunnel.

Video of what wormhole traversal would look like:

Adding to wormhole idea:
  • Believe it is canon that Thargoids use wormholes.
  • Megaships, capital ships, fleet carriers I believe have text somewhere stating wormhole is the traversal method.
  • Guardians I believe says something roughly to effect of being able to alter space for more rapid transit (same basic idea).
  • CMDR ships have lots of interesting details about FSD functions in the varying engineering data.

Hello,
after 1 year of wandering between a lot of conjecture, hypotesis and through the black,
I find myself again thinking about RAXXLA.
I'm not a veteran player as I found out about the game about 2 or 3 years ago and as I have not much time to spend exploring the universe unfortunately. The day I found out about RAXXLA I was pretty interested and curious so I started doing some research and I "spiralled down" this immense puzzle.
Anyway, I was going through the forum trying to find some information about the "child story" Princess Astrophel and the Spiralling Stars and
the only thing I succeded to find was about the sonnet by philip sydney "Astrophil and Stella" (here the sonnets).

I would like to know what the actual "child story" is about!
If there is some writings or a link to something that tells this story I would be thankful (1510 pages of forum are not an easy reading).

I do not expect to solve the mystery because obviouvsly everything I can think it already have been thought before but nonetheless, without knowing, sometimes I find myself trying to keep the pace with what has been found out until now. Some day we will know for sure what is all about.
The only thing that makes me laugh a little but curious nonetheless is that this mystery has gone for so long that whatever it is, it will not be up to expectation (I hope I'm wrong and maybe I am beacuse FD has already satisfied a lot for me).

Sorry for the long message,
Hope to find what I'm looking for

I'll be honest. There have been years long debates on that here and at Independent Raxxla Hunters discord on that subject. The sonnets are possibly one of the better candidates out there. That doesn't mean others haven't been posited. I am pretty sure we haven't actually settled on a reliable answer to that question.

Does anyone know how to get the forum to not break the link from Wikipedia about the esoteric programming language Brain f u c k? I mean it is part of the game yet it broke my link.

No, there aren't spaces and it is a single word in Wikipedia. I had to write it that way so it wasn't auto-edited.

Not a direct link, but easy enough to navigate

Mmm, just remembered my hypothesis that PF is run by a Guardian AI
It has a name:
Jaques

That one character has been more impactful than many realize. His first station was after all
Peter's Base.

So, could be this a good point to start? I think that sometimes going back on your steps it's the right thing to do.
Maybe before going on we should focus on answering this question....
Well, it is the easy part! Nothing has ever been found! =D
.... Or maybe it is under our nose and we cannot see it because we have too many theories :D

Thanks for the replies anyway!
I will continue researching on the "child story" subject.
I will let you know if I will ever find something.

I vaguely remember a livestream where asteroids were discussed, possibly in the context of a question about Raxxla, and the devs involved seemed to look at each other & someone commented something like “you’re in the right ballpark”....

Anyone remember this and can point me to the livestream vid?
I recall it, but the context was different.

It was a live stream, possibly involving mining, FD did these ‘Ed learns’ type vids where a Com Manager tags along and tries different things etc usually with a player group ( if my memory is correct?).

In this instance in was subterfuge (in my opinion) and at some point they basically said (naively) - ha got you now where’s Raxxla, to which the FD employee essentially (in my opinion) brushed it off very well and politely counteracted it with charm and or sarcasm.

He was (in my opinion) being flippant.
