Third Anniversary Animal

Frontier will troll us with another African antelope like the greater kudu. Basically just a more typical savanna reskin of the nyala lol.

I'm SO hopeful that frontier will give us the African Spurred Tortoise as a Anniversary Animal, I feel they are just perfect for it! like I don't care if it would be in dlc, but the question is in what dlc it can be? it didn't come with Africa Pack,Grasslands Animal Pack and now the Arid Animal Pack. so I feel it's the only chance of getting them!

they are clone, they would need a lot of edits for the model maybe even a new model, it's a staple tortoise in zoos, They have become very popular recently in here, they are animal from ZT2, it would be the first tortoise that we would get (probably) since the base game (if we don't include the Diamondback Terrapin) and they are just so cute and iconic and beautiful!

I would be pretty happy with that, and it's plausible.

Once again, the anniversary animal is never going to be one that could potentially sell in a DLC. A lot of the presented options in this thread are absurd. The Pallas cat was mentioned. Seriously? It's a very popular, memetic animal. They're not going to give it away for free. Likewise the bush dog or, and this one kind of made me laugh, the Tasmanian devil.

African spurred tortoise I think is in an iffier position. It could go either way. It's popular enough to sell in a DLC but also fairly generic. The Nile crocodile is, IMO, a more plausible reptile, since Frontier loves making crocs but probably knows another DLC slot filled with a croc isn't going to go down very well.

Me too TBH.

My prefered choice for another antelope is the blackbuck but the greater kudu is also one of My favorites and most wanted.

If we do get stuck with another antelope I'd hope it's a larger one like a nilgai or eland. On that note a gaur could make pretty good Anniversary animal though. I don't think hard to make off of the water buffalo.

The red deer would have been a seller considering how many people kept asking for it yet we got it for free, I think that as long as it is not a super requested animal but a rather popular one that does not require a new rig it makes sense. A crocodile, a bear, a crane, a flamingo, a tortoise, all are plausible options I think :)

not tuatara, tutassa means tortoise in the planco language, p much the only word i remember cuz it sounds funny
Ah I see lol

I agree with this, the greater kudu I would be cool with too!

I've been reading again the old thread about our guesses for the third anniversary in 2022. Maybe Frontier took notes back then of what we expected/wanted for an anniversary. What we talk now is probably useless, since the new anniversary animal (if any) must be already chosen and being made. What we mentioned the most last year were:
  • American black bear
  • American flamingo
  • Dromedary
Other animals that were mentioned several times were:
  • Wisent
  • Other bears (Spectacled bear and Eurasian brown bear)
  • Masai giraffe
  • Striped hyena
  • Grevy's zebra

Other animals that were mentioned:
  • Sumatran tiger
  • Nile crocodile
  • Eurasian wolf (splitting the timberwolf into 2 subspecies)
  • Green peafowl
  • Wild donkey
  • Blue wildebeest
  • Arabian oryx
  • Black rhino
  • Maned wolf
And of course there were mentions of birds and monkeys in the Walk through exhibits.

Previously I was pretty sold on the idea that a bear would be our anniversary animal this year, but since I'm feeling pretty confident that we'll get the spectacled bear in the winter DLC this year (well...'confident' is perhaps the wrong word here, more like I see it as a distinct possibility due to the DLC themes so far) I'm leaning towards the Nile crocodile. Frontier clearly loves making crocs (as DLC animals, we've had the Cuvier's dwarf caiman, American alligator, and spectacled caiman, plus the saltwater crocodile and gharial in the base game) but as I said earlier, giving yet another DLC slot to a croc would be a mistake in terms of community feedback. At the same time, the Nile crocodile is popular enough in the community that it warrants including; so there are many factors pushing it into the anniversary spot.
  • Several base rigs already exist.
  • Frontier has (or had?) artists skilled in designing crocodiles.
  • The Nile crocodile is at least somewhat popular.
  • It isn't an animal that they could reasonably include in a DLC without significant backlash.
Edit: I should add that I'm trying to look at this objectively since I don't actually want the Nile crocodile (or rather, I want it in as much as I want every animal, but it's not on my wishlist).

Sigh... oh please no... there's so many other choices... and as I recall, the community as a whole were fine with our croc options after we got our fourth... a sixth? Really not necessary...

Here's an idea: How about a set of poison dart frogs and giving us the ability to mix them together in the exhibits.

I'd pick the following five:
  1. Blue Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates tinctorius)
  2. Anthony's Poison Dart Frog (Epipendobates anthonyi)
  3. Yellow-Banded Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates leucomelas)
  4. Green-and-Black Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates auratus)
  5. Golfodulcean Poison Dart Frog (Phyllobates vittatus)

It kinda is if you want one from Africa. Out of all the crocs, I'm surprised we got 2 from South America before we got even 1 from Africa, so any African croc will do at this point

Yeah we have a crocodilian from every other continent on which they are found, yet none of the 5 from Africa, Nile, Dwarf, West African, Central African Slender-Snouted and West African Slender-Snouted Crocodiles could all work. This would then allow for another animal for any African River exhibitory. Out of all of them, I like Slender-Snouted Crocodiles, but overall, the Nile Crocodile would be best for Zoo Tycoon 2 reference and given it is a popular and widespread species in the wild and in captivity.

Dwarf Crocodile is the best choice I think. Their small size makes them unique (we have more larger than smaller crocodilians at present) and they are found in loads of zoos. Nile and Slender-Snouted are fine but I think Nile is very similar looking to Saltwater and its mostly ZT2 Nostalgia... Meanwhile Slender-Snouted is just a bit obscure I think.

To be honest, something like this should be considered. It's not uncommon to see mixed animal terrariums, after all, so it'd be great if Frontier actually updated terrariums with this. I'm disappointed that only butterflies get to be mixed. Why not the poison frogs, at the very least?
