And they are developing the live version. That’s kind of the entire point of it.Supporting, and Developing the game are different things. Legacy mode - is also supporting the game, but they will not develop Legacy mode any further.

The doom always comes when they release stuff, same ppl throwing muck as well.Leave it to the forums to blindly assume the game is dead from them saying they’re supporting the game for the next year at least.
The scale of which they are " Developing " the game is very questionable atm.And they are developing the live version. That’s kind of the entire point of it.
Ergo the game is DEDDSupporting, and Developing the game are different things. Legacy mode - is also supporting the game, but they will not develop Legacy mode any further.
I found this interesting discussion from 2016 on what will happen once Frontier decides it no longer makes economic sense to keep the servers for ED running.
As a followup 6-7 years later, I'm curious if anyone in the community has found further signals from FD on what sort of time frame we may expect.
Little odd for a live service space ship game not to add space ships. Love or hate SC's funding model, space ships keep that frankenstien alive. If adding ships is the metric for development, SC must be the most developed game in the universe. It surely isn't the most released, that's for sure.
I’m thinking that splitting the game into Live and Legacy might be the fundamental and exciting changes to the galaxy referred to in the quote."Update 14 will bring fundamental and exciting changes to the galaxy". That doesn't sound like anything the players are expected to fix anytime soon.
But I've been wrong before; at any rate the distant future is now only three days away, and we'll find out just how wrong then!![]()
Other than splitting Legacy off from the Live game and downgrading it.No. FD have given no indication they are turning the servers off any time soon.

Oh no. If only there were other things in this game than the ships. But that's all there is. Just ships; no other content. Not even anywhere to take or land them. The scale of which they are " Developing " the game is very questionable atm.
Did you knew that in 2 weeks it will be 4 years since they added a last ship to the game? Pretty long huh? It's not like they announced they are done with adding ships to the game but certainly stopped developing them for half of game existance.
It was never just a spaceship game. Legs have been there since the KS.Little odd for a live service space ship game not to add space ships. Love or hate SC's funding model, space ships keep that frankenstien alive.
Hello Games have moved forward and included more 'baggage' in NMS. Even apparently macOS users (sorry couldn't resist)If you see that as a sign then that's your call.
I see it as a way for FD to unload some baggage so they can move forward.... just like they did with Mac users (Sorry, couldn't resist).
But they didn't, and they never intended to - indeed, we've had vessels other than space ships before Odyssey released.Base on Odyssey reviews, they should have sticked with just Space Ships.
Except the very real plan of working on narrative content - which has always been important in the game's past and given us Galnet, community goals, Powerplay, Guardians, Thargoids...No real plans for the future of the game.
U13 seems to largely be leadup for U14, but it had the HIP 22604 mess, the Tharguardian relics, and those big swirly things heading toward the bubble...Ah, so what was the narrative for Update 13? A video and disabaling your Guardian tech in that system?
Not much different to the past ten years of forum complaining then.Telling people to move on, is not going to change the game, it will only hasten it's demise.
If the fundamental and exciting changes aren't in some way related to the Stargoids Frontier have been trailing since the launch of Aftermath, I'll eat my hat.I’m thinking that splitting the game into Live and Legacy might be the fundamental and exciting changes to the galaxy referred to in the quote.
