Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Nice (y)

I really need to put some work in with the camera suite.
Same. I think when I upgrade my display, which is as soon as I can be bothered fighting the sea of misinformation that we laughingly call "buying online," I'm going to shift all the camera binds onto an old fake Xbox controller, to make it a lot easier to just pick up that controller and take pix.

Also occurred to me the other day I used to post clips of iRacing all the time, because it has physics-based replay where you can watch anything from any camera, after the fact. Now that would be a cool thing to have.

Hi All :)

What am I doing....well, it seems my Grandsons are presently heavily involved in Miinecraft so Elite has taken a back seat at the moment. I tried to get them to think of a suitable name for the stations I constructed for them....Minecraft was top of the list amongst other (what I considered unsuitable names) silly stuff so that's on hold presently.
Not that surprising really considering their ages! ...They did have a pretty long gaming session yesterday (without supervision) using the SRV though (Or buggy as they like to call it) so there's hope yet! ...plus it kept them quietly occupied unlike the screaming banshees they were on Easter Sunday! 😨 (too many chocolate eggs I think :D).

Okay, I'm still waiting for some coherent instructions / documentation concerning colonisation's station building process and long term effects from Frontier. I guess that's not going to be forthcoming any time soon, so that part of the game I'm not delving into again until they do.😬
I'm presently scouting a planet for Tellurium to build my stocks up from 126 to 150 without going to a materials vendor, exploring as I go on the edge of the bubble. Pretty basic gameplay but it's quite a while since I've done this so it's kinda refreshing at the moment.

I've also been looking at the recent topic announcement of the 'Solar system tour', Read the exclusive interview with Space.com!
Quite an interesting read and video, and as one poster remarked great PR for Elite in general so that's a positive in this respect. Though unfortunately it seems to me to also bring up that glaring deficiency too, namely the Moon, Mars and other planets in the Sol system in Elite. I can't understand, and perhaps other people viewing this video (especially non players of Elite) would also be asking the same sorts of questions, why these fundamental planets have not been hand crafted (or otherwise) to allow players to land on them and interact with content that could be placed there. I mean....so much effort has been channelled into Colonisation, the BGS and the Thargoids for example, yet as far as is known generally no effort in the sense of depth has been observed to have taken place in this area (Sol) since the game was released. Frontier seem to be leapfrogging from one new (unfinished I think personally) feature to the next, overlooking sometimes the obvious it seems to me where new content and effort might be better directed, and have a more lasting impact on the game.
Colonisation for example is turning out to be not as rewarding in terms of gameplay as some players had hoped for, and it's patently clear that the new feature is getting bogged down in unreliable and unexpected effects, not only with the feature itself but other areas of the game indirectly connected to it.
I just think / remarked that all this effort in retrospect might have been better channelled towards the Sol system instead for example. 🤷‍♂️, I wonder what the consensus would be if given a choice between Colonisation as it stands now or a fully crafted out Sol System.

Ha!...that will teach me to keep a closer eye on the game whilst reading stuff and posting on the forum!....the fuel / air in my SRV had run down to the 4 minutes timer, I heard an audio warning on the pc speakers and when I opened up the game screen my ship was fortunately parked nearby, so I hastily boarded it!
Okay, back to rock hunting.

Jack :)

I think when I upgrade my display
Forgot to mention - after I floated the idea last month - that I took the time over Easter weekend to tidy my desk and install the 26" monitor alongside the laptop. Big improvement.

Otherwise, I'm still playing KBM and have enough on my plate to remember all of the flight and SRV controls. The camera stuff has been a bridge too far (even though I was quite handy with the cameras when I was doing planetary circumnavigation stuff). Hence the need to "put some work in" :)

Actually, I've made a little more money than I thought. I'm either about to overtake Timber or get another rebuy.

Yeah, it would be nice to have a more fleshed out Sol system to explore. That's probably a ton of work though, to put it mildly.

Though you might need to double up if you want to reach the next reward threshold according to Inara.

That Anaconda was annoying but he left me with a good payout. I was immediately attacked by a Python while making a cup of tea but I noticed I had virtually no ammo left. Better to bail and cash in the bounties.

I think I'm just over 9M. I reckon I can scrape into the top 50% with another run or two.

Close. just 500k more.

Well, I don't think I'll be able to catch up to that...

That being said... I talked about the strange behaviour of the pirates in the RES before. I noticed something curious.
I play in the normal RES and thus selected it and dropped there. But after some time, while I was trying to get back to the center of the RES, I noticed that for some reason the HAZRES was selected. I wasn't nowhere near the HAZRES, that was at least 0.5 Ls away from where I was. And reselecting the RES in the nav panel showed me that I was about 10km away from that.
And I was wondering why again somehow higher ranking opponents with FAS or Asps appeared. As well as wings of pirates, some even with 2 medium ships.
Does that make sense?

There is an intermittent bug where when the list of targetable locations changes your locked target location switches to a different one possibly the one now in the position in the list where the target used to be. It seems mainly to occur in height traffic locations and can be especially common at the Trailblazer megaship systems where there is a lot of FC movement rearranging the stations list as well.

The rank and equipment of opponents tends to vary with the waves that arrive, they will tend to be based on your combat rank but will be higher if your other ranks are higher than your combat one. I think this is also affected by other commanders in the instance especially by the commander who was there first and created the instance, but that is just my speculation.

Interesting. Though I started out with pirates that were fitting for my rank. Which was mostly harmless at that time. The highest I had seen was competent. But then all the sudden some master rank pirates showed up. If they were alone, that would be doable with a little help of some NPC friends. Albeit a little tedious and asking for a repair limpet afterwards. But the wings... no chance.

I'll go and check her ranks, as I'm not entirely sure where she actually is.
Okay... She is as of now Novice in Combat, Surveyor in Exploration, Peddler in Trade and Directionless in Exobio.
She just reached Novice in her last run in the rings, while she already had reached the other ranks before she came to Dhan.

I went in for a second run and barely scraped into the 50%. The credit requirement for that tier is creeping up so I'm pretty certain I'll need to make a third run by tomorrow. At least.

The repair limpets are handy but it left me with zero ammo after hanging around that long. I started forgetting to warrant scan because I was holding back on the multi cannons. Better to bail and cash in.

There are times I drop out of supercruise when indicated, but I somehow end up nearly a million miles from the target. Fortunately I have the fast boot FSD from the Cocijo CG (I think) so I can get going again pretty quick.

And there's a decent chance you'd be very close to the 50% tier with that warrant scanner. It'll come in handy for the next bounty CG.

Well, I only have room for 4 Limpets, so my ammo won't run out before they do.

Haven't had that happening to me, yet.

I'd guess so. But given that I initially didn't think I'd make it into the 75%, even contemplating to go for the 50% is a big win in my book.

You should have collected more mats so you could synthesize more limpets and ammo on the spot without returning to base. When I drop out of SC, I'm within 5 kilometers of the center, always come in straight from above, 90 degrees to the ring system, if you drop out at an angle other than that, you could end up a long way from the site.

You should have at least an angle of 60 degrees to come in close to the center.

Works also for the approach to a planetary station. The closer you get to the 60 degree angle, the closer you drop towards the station. Usually around 4 km, while a shallow angle (close to 30°) might drop you about 18 km away from the station.

just to say this is a great general post, 2233 pages to date, first thing i read every time i log in.great job mr t.

Decided I needed a break from the CG so I'm going to do a few more ground missions then, maybe, the pull of the black might call me back.

The site is embedded in the ring system, you drop from SC right above the rings, at 60 degrees you would need to boost further. Like a projectile going through tank armor, if the armor is at 90 degrees the path is short, if the armor is angled, the path is longer. Plus, it's a manual dump from SC, so there's that too.
