Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Been fueling FCs for a bit, now running a taxi service for miners.

I think next job is taking the carrier on an exploration trip, do some experimental mining for fuel.

FC Larry Niven heading for the Coal Sack!
Taking the Corvette just in case I bump into any Moties. :D

I am seeing two odd things too.

When exiting a station or a ring and pointing at your destination jump, the FSD will be charged but not jumping while you are being told to align with the location. It can sometimes be about 10 seconds before you finally jump.

Secondly, exiting the jump at the destination star results in control lockup. You can't steer, open maps etc. and, again, just have to wait it out.
I have had the first one of those (align with destination) on my Cutter. It is on almost every jump, and only started with the Fleet Carrier update. I never had it once before that update (and I flew the Cutter up to Colonia, so I had done a jump or two!). So I do think they must have tweaked something, as the difference is very stark and timed to the update. As others have said, though, and as I am sure you have discovered, boosting cures it. It is a mild annoyance, though.

How long do you expect the voyage to last? Is there a similar benefit to ecnomical jumping for carriers? Or is it a straightforward 1 ton/x ly?
It seems like refueling is the achilles heel of carrier management.
GL & bon voyage.

There is no 'economical' jumping with a FC, but mass does affect fuel usage. So if you have lots of services installed and/or lots of cargo onboard (could be Tritium or other stuff), it takes more fuel to jump the same distance.

For a full 500 LY jump it can take from 140 to 250 tons of fuel (approx).

Those few hardy souls who are trying to explore and get all their fuel from mining are running as light as possible. There's one guy that has been posting his progress, and he seems happy with it, but it's still a couple of hours of mining per jump -- too much for me to be attractive. It's good that you can do it in an emergency though.

I think someone said in Beta2 that the effect on a carriers jump range of a loaded ship was the same as an empty one which if true could let you have about 3 extra jumps if you had a 790 tonne capacity T9 full of Tritium on board at the start of a trip.

The trouble is to have any flexibility that would need to be an Alts or friends ship which means fitting a shipyard.

Yeah, fuel that is in ships doesn't add to the weight. Neither do docked ships, or stored ships.

If you don't have a shipyard, you can still have one ship per other player on pads, but the shipyard is required if you want to allow them to store more than 1 ship on your carrier.

I do hope that they do something to ease the mining requirements in the black for this stuff. They probably won't though :)

For instance when some freeloader asks if you have space for his 16 ships!

I parked my carrier near a Neutron star today, quite by accident. It was quite an unusual sight. I've never seen one look quite like this.

Yeah, did the same yesterday and when I saw distance to the star, I was pretty freaked out ;)

Tonight, I have mostly done nothing. I tooled around with ship names, studied/tinkered with loadouts and switched liveries. I was asled how does one join my group and I hope my instructions made sense... or, indeed, even worked

Apologies to CMDR Spartax - this is new territory for me and I'm really lax at answering direct messages as I'm not yet attuned to getting them!
