Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I got serious cold feet right after buying my first Phantom. I had enough money to buy something else, but I decided to wait and take a short flight across a planetary surface instead to let the purchase sink in. It changed my mind almost immediately. What a cute, whimsical little button of a ship. I'm in love. 🚀

The Phantom is a great ship and has taken me on some excellent adventures. She is currently transporting me back home after visiting my first bark mound site. Some nice mats were extracted.

Danm... just got got hyperdicted and spotted the Thargoid wake. Do they just produce the same kind of emissions as human ships? Is there more likelyhood of a rare? (No FSW on board :( )

Brilliant!! I have never even flown a Phantom, before. But we're planning a group exploration/look at some aliens expedition soonish, and I toyed with building up a Phantom for the job. I don't have a Krait of any sort at the moment (did have a MkII, but had to sell it a while back). The Phantom really appeals for that sort of long journey with a risk of peril.

Made over 200m cr taking cz wing missions last night (the economy really is crazy, these days) and I was tooling through the shipyard at the local station and thought 'oooh, Phantom'. Although feel slightly like a wartime profiteer, buying myself something nice with the spoils of war.

Glad that you're loving it.

I believe that there are alien wake data types you can acquire but like you the only time I have been hyperdicted I didn’t have a wake scanner.

Maybe I should head over to The Bug Killer with a wakes scanner and collect some.

Yeah... I think I may go back with one fitted and see if Ican lure one of those sunflowers in.

I saw that HD 123873, also known as HIP 69420, didn't have any bodies on EDDB so I've made a pilgrimage out there. Alas, I've been beaten to it.

HIP 42069 is similarly uneventful (and likewise FDev officially named it after the HD designation, the COWARDS)

At some point I should go dump a load of onionhead at Mag Mell, since it's HIP 420.

Been playing for a few weeks, loving it, especially exploring, tho trading Tritium has made me think I’m almost rich (in a very relative way! Currently 50m credits, 5 ships with some elementary engineering).

That said, this week has been sloooooow, trying to learn how to mine. Using a Clipper, it took me three hours to finally blow up a rock, and refine 12t in an LTD hot spot.... 12t of Bromelite that is!! I think it might be a while before I get to my first billion...!

If I get the hang of mining, might do a spot more trading in the T9, before perhaps actually trying some combat... I’ve got a Kraft II set up for exploring, so might adapt that, or else go with (and buy back a few times) the old AspX or Cobra

Has to be said, I’m enjoying the fun of researching the game and using the tools like EDDB and Inara as well as watching too much YT (Commander Exigeous and D2EA have been visited a lot..!)

Your first billion? It took me over a year to do that :D Mind you, that was all well before the mining boom when I thought a 10mCR hauling mission was a mega-payout!

I'd go with the Krait II for mining, especially if you're doing laser, subsurface and core stuff. Another option might be a Python. For an explorer ship, you can't go wrong with a DBX although you might be a bit limited on optional slots. A viable alternative would be a Krait Phantom.

Aaaanyway... welcome to ED and glad you're enjoying the experience! @@@07

well, I thought you could make 100 billion credits an hour mining Bromelite, so I was nearly there?! :ROFLMAO:
The main reason I have a Clipper is from doing a bit of the Imperial grind, and wanted to have some fruit to the courier gig - and a Cutter still seems a chunk away... good food for thought on adjusting the fleet tho.

I swear by a Dolphin for exploring. Just enough slots with a touch of elegance and luxury. It is as nimble as anything for planetary landings.

I haven’t tried any of the mammal ships yet - also think being a bus driver might be fun, so maybe some Passenger missions soon, tho that would be an Orca, really?

The advantage of the mammal ships is they're the only ones that can fit the 1st class passenger modules IIRC. So for the average passenger missions, (non-first class) any ship will do. If you're able to stack some first class passengers and the other riff-raff all going to the same location, this could be good but I would suggest it is a rare occurrence that this is possible. You won't want to stack too many 'individual' passengers as very often they start asking for detours to visitor beacons or for you to stop and pick up things to make their journey more pleasant. A pain if you have 3 or more all doing the same.

An Orca would be good to move massive amounts of people all going to the same location but really, this could also be done in a few other ships.
