I noticed that Void Opals were selling for a very high price in Colonia today. I checked my hold and I only had 94 of them, but it seemed like a good excuse to visit civilization for a bit.

So, I decided to spend 400 in Tritium fuel and I hopped the FC to Tir. I decided my venerable Python was overdue for some work, so I fired her up and made the short trip to sell the opals. I got 158 million for them, so I guess it was worth it.

I was very annoyed to find NPCs swarming around my carrier. And scanning me. And getting in my way.

And then an incredibly lame pirate decided he wanted my Void Opals, and attempted to attack me, only he waited until I had already entered the no-fire zone of the station I was heading to. He jumped in right next to my ship, told me I was a greenhorn and he was going to boil me up, and then looked around at all the cops and hastily exited the area.

I've gotten rather used to having peace and quiet. I guess I am spoiled now. Just as I like it. :)

I attempted to find Tritium to buy in Colonia, but currently there isn't much. I found a very lovely little station in the rings of a planet that was able to sell me 6 whole tons of it. Oh well, I have enough for the moment. I may have to actually mine the stuff at some point, though :p

I'm going to wait in Tir for a bit, and see if the Tritium problem clears up. But I won't stay long. It's much to noisy around here.

I was particularly pleased with this shot, it's an unedited base PS4 screenshot but the fidelity looks better than normal for some reason. There's a nice specualr glint on the bridge area and even a bit of subtle ambient occlusion going on around the ship-kit wing on the side.
Shadows in ED on the PS4 are usually a bit rubbish!

The name "Carpe Crustulum" means "Sieze the cookie" or "Take the biscuit". I like using Latin names for my science ships, and biscuits/cookies are a revered foodstuff in the Canonn Research Group.
Fun fact: I think many outsiders assume the Canonn logo depicts 3 electrons orbiting an atom but they're not electrons, they're biscuits. Look closely enough and you can see each one has been nibbled. You can't see it clearly on the ship screenshot but it's more visible in my sigpic.

That's a pretty ship. The first thing I thought about was the Ark from Transformers.

The commander is currently enjoying a weeks mining holiday in sunnier climes elsewhere. Rebuilt, refitted and ready, Elle Cyd awaits.
Once he returns, refreshed and re-juvenated, they will no doubt talk far into the night about future plans and ventures, before disappearing once more into the black.

Dont know about ambient occlusion, i think its abrasion from all those 'soft' landings and spacedust. Definitley not rust.

I've only played around with Cinema 4D a few years ago but I think ambient occlusion refers to natural looking reflected light. Maybe I missed something but I don't see how it applies here.

Though I did enjoy getting my paint work down to 77% before I fixed it to take a screenshot. Maybe I can remove my shields and scrape my way along a space station to get it all gritty looking again. I want to see what my ship looks like at something like 25%.

I've done a fair bit of 3D graphics work over the years. You're right, Ambient Occlusion is a part of scattered or bounce lighting solutions, it's specifically the very soft indistinct shading you get in cracks, creases and crevices.

I rarely make plans in ED because, as the saying goes, if you want to make God laugh, make plans. Having said that, I have made some now.

I’m on a longer trek now than normal. On a loop as always but I think I’ll cover a greater distance than normal, somewhere around 25-30,000ly. I obviously map all valuables, scan entire systems and I also continue to look for High-G planets to land on. Collecting mats as normal. Several bins now filled (including Lead!)

Back of a packet calculations would indicate to me that by the time I get home I should have accrued enough UC data to give me the money to purchase an FC. I think it’ll take me around 2 weeks in which time I hope they’ve sorted the Trit issue out. I’m not particularly interested in mining it but I would like to if push came to shove. Just knowing there were bountiful supplies to buy, if required, would be nice


Having done that, I’ll carry my fleet over to the Bubble, has to be a year at least since I left there. I’ll finish of my combat ranking over there. I’ll probably do that in Combat Zones. I’ve only ever done one and I didn’t enjoy it in the Python. I can zip into Shin and create a combat build, possibly a Krait. Using the CZ’s I will finally unlock that engineer who needs the bonds for the unlock. Not even sure what he offers but I am a bit of a completionist.

Then? Out into the black. The only thing that can stop this plan is excitement (I crash the ship or they just start giving FC’s away) or boredom (Space fatigue).

Well, I’m sure this is the news you've all been aching to hear. No doubt this will start many speculation threads, please be assured though fellow travellers, I will update you first in here.

Since you asked so nicely:

Came back after a long hiatus and got hooked again. Decided to take a long exploration trip in my Cobra Mk 3 just because.

Forgot to buy the fuel scope (luckily notice after the first jump, so back to fit one).

Then I set off again, still trying to get out of the bubble without getting derailed.

Then I found a system with unmapped icy worlds (not worth it to map them all, but I now have my name on two insignificant ice worlds on the "Pegasi Sector EQ-P B5-3 A 2" system. Or as I prefer to call it: "Just outside nowhere." To prevent anyone from getting back first, I ran back to the nearest Cartographer outpost to sell my data.

On the way home I found some sulphur worlds:

I guess my long discovery trip can wait, and boy is it hard work to map out a star system with 50+ bodies in it (not counting expired life forms) but not quite as mind numbig as doing the samein system trade as I did to afford a new drive for my transporter.

But I have now left my mark in the galaxy, and seen a small unexpected "wonder".

Logged in to find that FD had refilled my carrier fuel tank with Tritium. If I'd known they were going to do that, I'd have jumped back yesterday instead of waiting in Tir. Oh well. Free is free, no complaints. :)

I used the fuel to go back to my secluded mining and exploration spot.

Ahh. Peace and quiet again. It seems to be what I need right now.

A man after my own heart. The MK III is a fine ship. Take care of her and she'll take care of you.

I still have PTSD from surface scanning on the way to the Orion Nebula so my hands are literally shaking as I type this. Hence the short and snappy response.
