Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

About a month ago, that would have been 5 times that amount.

At one point during this latest release I was sure that FDEV knew what they were doing.

There was a shining moment when mining was balanced so that all 3 methods produced well, and it was fun to take all the tools with you and work your way through the various types of asteroids. At the end you were paid very well, and it was fun.

There was the incredible new player-market, driven by Tritium prices. I've never seen that kind of player cooperation in the game, across modes, across platforms.

I thought to myself, "Wow. They got it really right this time!"

Then they killed it. They tried to fix an exploit, but wound up nerfing and destroying things instead. Carriers are still stranded. All the goodwill that had built up in those 2 weeks...gone, and replaced with anger, frustration, and dismay.

So I realized that FDEV had only accidentally got things right. It was not intentional. And now they broke it, and apparently don't understand why or how to fix it. Each patch has more bugs.

My opinion of FDEV took a deep nosedive after all this, I'm sorry to say.

I'm sure the game will lumber on, and I'll still find fun stuff to do, but geez. They could hardly have handled this release worse.

It is a thrill when your early money-making ventures pay off. A good feeling.

Yeah, it is. Makes the decision to be a trader feel soo good. Just before logging out I went from system to system and wrote down the best rewards for delivery missions on offer for the places I'd been to. They were offering 23k credits on average for trips with a full or nearly full hold. I felt even better about my decision after crunching the numbers.

/sage nod\ I believe I know where this opportunity is. Been collecting about a quarter mil each trip doing it myself. In a decent small ship with a good commander you can escape most pirate interdictions. Glad to hear you slogged [and profited!] your way out of the ones who caught you.

I'm still in the 10 starter systems, haven't docked anywhere else yet. So if you've gone elsewhere, I probably ran a different trade route then you think.

EDIT: Also, my Thrustmaster T-Flight 4 is getting delivered today! Wait, thought it wasn't due to arrive til the 11th or so? Nevermind that, must clear off area so I can set up the new HOTAS when FedEx finally gets here.

Their view of getting it right and what the player base thinks seems poles apart. When I first started, I had heard good things about how FDEV listen to their players but I now wonder whether this is still the case. I suspect not. New management? New Dev's? Dunno.

When you leave the starter area, you are going to enjoy Rare Commodity trading, I think :) Just searching them out and discovering new ones is fun in it's own way, but you can make a good bit of cash with them.

Good call on the HOTAS, btw - Playing with one really adds a lot to the game in my opinion!

I would imagine it does. Once I find a good setup for it, and get use to using that setup I may exclusively play Elite Dangerous in VR for even more immersion. To be honest, I bought the T-Flight 4 entirely for Star Wars Squadrons, which doesn't come out till October. But like hell am I gonna have an $80 controller I can only use with one game. So I picked up Elite Dangerous and subbed to Origin Access (premium) to snag any other flight games they have in the vault, such as pretty much all the X-Wing games.

Does anyone know a good mining site for SRV's?

Firstly, you are weird.

Secondly, Squadrons looks like hot garbage.

I did finally check out the T-Flight 4 though and it looks alright, I suppose. Give us a review when you get it.

Only problem most reviewers have with the T-Flight 4 is that it lacks any mounting holes, thus when split apart it might be a little unstable in highly active games (such as Ace Combat: Skies Unknown). But that's only true if split apart, apparently.

That can be an issue with the Logitech X52 every so often. If you get carried away during combat at least. Particularly if I apply a little mod to stiffen up the spring but I've rarely used that.

Well, I attempted to do some core mining. Not exactly a resounding success. Out of the "hot spots" I visited, I found a VO core in an alexandrite one. And performed an epic fail of blowing the roid up. I gave up at that point.

Next, I shall investigate painite and, if that fails, I'll take the Phantom out and do exploration instead. Mining ain't what it useta be :D

I'm still testing the various hotspots I've found out here. Yesterday I did a Painite run, at a single Painite hotspot (no overlaps). Before the patch this hotspot was producing well, closer to Painite 2 hotspot. It is still quite good and I got 200T of ore out of an hour or so. I had to dump limpets a few times, which indicates to me that mining amounts were decent.

I also made a run through an LTD2 that was producing pretty well before the patch. It wasn't as good as before. I did find 4 cores in an hour, and they were all LTD cores, but each one only dropped 10 fragments, and there were no SSD deposits except trash like water and bromellite. There was very little laser-able ore, either, whereas before there was a lot. So, it's somewhat nerfed.

I ran both runs through the online mining analyzer and the results matched my experience. Painite is mostly untouched. LTDs are nerfed, but still kinda ok if you love core mining.

I have not yet checked out any Tritium hotspots. Even if I could get 200t/hr (which would be high) it'd still be much too slow to fill my tank that way.

If nothing else changes in the game, I will probably just switch back to Painite mining and build up a good store of it. Then, whenever I decide to actually move my base somewhere else, I'll sell the Painite to buy Tritium, thus reducing the amount of mining time needed to refuel (cuz Painite sells for a lot more than Tritium). Of course I'll also pick up Tritium when I see it.

I'd much prefer being able to easily move my carrier, like it was at the beginning, before the nerfs. But, I suspect it's not going back to that, and I shall just have to live with a reduced ability to move around.

I'm ticked about it, but there it is. I will deal.

Oh so that's what the little screw-sized holes are for in the X52? I hadn't even thought of that.

It's actually put me off buying a carrirr now. Perhaps that was the intention of the nerfing. There's certianly not a limit of 16 FCs per body either.

If they ever rethink the unobtanium rates of tritium, I may reconsider but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

I'm glad I didn't get a carrier :) Not that I was able to anyway, I didn't have anything like the 5 billion base price, and I didn't get on the mining train at the time it was profitable, so I probably never will now. For what they were, I don't think they would really suit my game, and I'm happy to ignore them as much as possible. Which, since I took off into the dark 3 months ago, I've managed to do quite successfully :)

(Last time I left the bubble, I didn't come back for 18 months. I've just landed at the extreme edge of bubble space as I'd worked my way back whilst conducting part of my slice of the HIP survey, but I shall be going back out into the black again to do more of the slice. Which I think might take me a while!)

Going out into the galaxy like that has been tempting for ages now. The only thing that puts me off would be a catostrophic loss of carto data.
