What is FDEV doing and what happened to Brabens dreams?

I am not feeling entitlement but the lacking involvement of the Community managers in these kinds of Topic is almost frightening. Isn´t it their job to act as a bridge between the Community and the Developers? I mean what else are they doing at this exact moment?

Since Ed left they change every couple of weeks, so maybe there are just none available at the moment.

They gotta be NPCs. They give their scripted statements and despawn until rendered.

I think the sad truth of it is that they don't have anything to add or communicate. Everyone knows what the state of the game is. Community managers don't dare to make any promises because everything internally is a giant mess

At this exact moment though, i expect they are relaxing at home with their families or doing chores, it being a Sunday and all. Or maybe even sleeping considering the time in the UK.

It's Sunday morning - they're probably getting up to spend some time with loved ones.
Edit: pretty much what AA said.

They have communicated on the topic. I've not watched all their output or read all their posts, but i caught a livestream where they acknowledged the issues and said the devs were trying to improve things.

I suppose they could do a copy/paste boilerplate text that they just repeat in every thread on the topic, but i'm sure that won't make people any happier.

CMs have to be careful in what they say. They can't make promises without permission from on high. They have to be careful of saying anything that could lead to litigation so they really have to tiptoe around their words, because you just know someone will take FD to court if a CM says anything that could be used against FD.

Its not ideal, and i'd love it if FD could be completely open and honest, but we have to realistic here. At least they have acknowledged the issues and haven't gone radio silent.

They will take a similar approach to Horizons i'm pretty sure, an initial launch of content that gives you something more than you currently have and extend that content over a period of time so add new features and content on a need to know basis.
That would be nice but is the opposite of what they said they were doing (releasing a complete package then (hopefully) going onto the next one with just bugfixes and minor tweaks in this)

In a more professional company, all hands would be on deck answering customer complaints at this point.

That's not happening here. Indeed, quite a lot of basic issues - people not being able to login or even install the game - are being largely left alone by the community managers. By and large it's players answering these questions - and unfortunately thanks to the culture they fostered you're as likely to find people mocking customers who experience basic server connection issues as those who try to help and give credible tips.

This pretty much means one of three things:

1) They don't care, so they don't even answer the basic questions. And leave the players in trouble to be mocked by the hooligans they've enabled. That there were apparently a bunch of layoffs that already happened could explain this unenthusiastic reaction.

2) They don't have an answer. Some folks were speculating that most of the problems are core netcode or server issues... which Frontier has seemingly lost all ability to fix. So they aren't answering because they really can't answer the problems.

3) They're still in denial that this launch has gone belly-up; and are going to pretend everything is fine. Indeed, some Youtube streamers are still trying to push positive videos (like MightyJingles) in the past couple of days. Other streamers however (e.g. Raptor) didn't hide all the crashes they experienced.

Really, regardless of the reason, it's just going to get uglier. Folks in Steam for instance are having difficulty getting refunds, but are now being mocked by various people for their apparent insufficient devotion to the game. So rather than have a drama-free refund process, it's fueling the perception that Fdev is deliberately making refunds difficult because all they are interested in is a cash grab.

If Fdev had any sense, they'd have everyone be all hands on deck. They'd prioritize the complaints by order of severity (the top concern being to fulfill any refund demands, followed by fixing any actual game-breaking issues like login problems), and address it in that order. They'd also do well to release FAQs on basic, solvable issues people encounter - like installation and launcher problems.

Thing is that's not happening. Indeed, most of the Hotfixes come off as just undirected busywork like "General stability improvements have been made." or "A further fix for the 'Orange Sidewinder' error has been implemented." - when the latter is very clearly still recurring every time the servers go above 15,000 concurrent.

Was that the livestream that was almost as bad as release day for the dlc itself? That was awful. They really need better sound guys. Other than that specific time it's usually so quiet I have to turn my TV most of the way up to hear it. It never has to go pat 25 for anything else EVER fdev livestreams usually require around 60.

Amateurs smh

Don't remember, didn't catch most of it. Sound was ok for me.

In your head, maybe.

In the real world everyone has their responsibilities and the CMs are probably working solid 8 hour days doing a variety of tasks and probably don't have much time to spare replying to every thread on the forums where someone is complaining.

And what do you want from them really?

Every complaint thread the same copy/paste response?

"Yes, we know there are are issues. Yes, we are working on trying to resolve them. Thank you for your patience".

Because that's all you're going to get at this point anyway.

We all have jobs and lives but we seem to make it no problem without getting a paycheck for it 🤷‍♂️. Don't cut them too much slack cmdr

Not one indication that this is happening and pre release they said this wasn't going to be like Horizons but a one and done deal. Maybe they've changed thir mind but not one official word about anything in the future. At best you should say, 'I hope...'
Why are people spamming this thread with sexual stuff?
White knights attempting to derail another complaints thread. The moderators are ok with this.

Not allowed to interact with the plebs until the higher ups say it's ok, and even then the message is carefully curated as to what can be said. It's the Fdev way.

I think a lot of anger, outrage and frustration could be mitigated if Fdev communicated with the players a bit more. Just a sticky post on the forum saying "we're aware that many people are having issues x, y and z and we are working on the problems. But it does feel sometimes like we're screaming into the void and just being ignored. When that happens people just get louder and louder.

Even before release it could help. Before alpha people really had no idea what was going to be in the game and Fdev threw very few hints out. So people speculated, hopes and dreams got bigger and less plausible; then the game releases and people are disappointed. But what we got is fine (minus the issues) - if expectations had been managed through communication the disappointment would have been much less.

Communication is so important idk why they don't bother to do it. It would save both us and them so much of this unpleasantness.

Except customer service, by definition, is the primary responsibility of a "community manager". Any community manager who makes the argument you did for an actual reputable company would almost certainly be fired on the spot. Entitled kids who worked in CM in the companies I worked for certainly got axed for having this attitude.

When there is an outage or a problem, CM is "all hands on deck". Period. Your attitude is the equivalent of saying it's okay for a credit card company to not answer customer calls when there is a major hack and thousands of customers got wrongly charged for stuff they never bought.

Most customers in fact do not have your rock-bottom standards.

Even now we're unsure - is this all there is to Odyssey? Will there be regular updates, more content added as we go along like Horizons? Or are they doing it different now? Just say something. Why not just tell us what is going on?
