What type of controller will you be using for Elite Dangerous

Glad I'm not the only one confused about which HOTAS to use. Is it reasonable to use a Rhino in conjunction with Tracker IR?
This is all new to me as I have always been a KB/M user but realise to it may be time to move on.
Iskariot I would appreciate your thoughts when you decide.

I will be flying with my Logitech G940

And hopefully in the near future wearing a rift as well.

How much does the Rhino retail for where you live? It looks fine, but that Saitek quality worries me

I feel I played it safe going for an all CH setup.

Unlike most things in Thailand the Rhino is not yet available for sale. :eek:However, I have plenty of time to wait....I just want to make the best choice, based on you guys experience when I get the game at general release.

i will use my x-55 rhino

i will use my x-55 rhino that i just got today, but only when saitek will release a decent drivers for windows 8.1 (it works on windows7) coz the joytick recognition is well done on the hardware side (throtle and joystick are seen and are working) but the software beside the drivers is just nothing but a mess for now, can't calibrate the joystick, while the throtle is perfectly handled.

notice this is only a mess in windows 8.1 pro, i've check on my other system (windows 7 pro) and it's working, once the button are programmed in the saitek software and the profile activated, not problem in elite itself (even is there is no specific profile for the x-55 for now) a custom profile is doing the job

I'll be using the G940 with TrackIR

Hopefully it will be fully working by 30th May. Can any alpha testers confirm if multi stick support is working for the G940 in the alpha build?

Going to attempt to use the G940 through PPJ or glovepie to merge the throttle and stick. The pedals seem to detect ok for YAW only - toe brakes conflict.

I'm Dunravin'

I love the looks and the buttons and switches of the X55 Rhino, but I am not sure about its build quality and these days there are no stores anymore where you can check out an expensive peripheral in the flesh so to speak.
Also I am a bit concerned that Saitek might release an improved X55 Rhino Pro a week after I decided to buy the standard one :). That always happens to me.

I have had more than a decade of experience with a single CH Flightstick (non-usb). The thing just didn't wear down. It performed and performed and performed.
That is why I am thinking about the CH Fighterstick and Throttle. But I would prefer a bit more functionality. The Rhino does offer that.

If the X55 Rhino had the build quality of CH it would be a no-brainer.
But I suppose it would be at least as expensive as the Thrustmaster Warthog in that case.

I will wait at least another 6 months before deciding. By that time there should be a few more pro reviews of the Rhino.

My x52 pro is on the way. Like Stu said, hardly anything is available here in Thailand for flight sim. I had to order mine from ebay.

I was looking at Warthog HOTAS in the beginning, but its too expensive for me. If i get any good with x52 then i might consider upgrading

Good Luck!

Saitek drivers are the worst software I've ever seen. In my virtual squad of IL2 most of the players own a Saitek stick and probably only for the 10% of them it works correctly.

For example I can't use the profiler (ingame it's not working) and I must disconnect my Win7 user just to unplug the Hotas, otherwise I get a BSD.

The fact that Saitek doesn't offer a way to change the response curves was the final deal breaker for me. That company doesn't have enough of a clue.

All this stuff about Saitek sounds very disheartening to me.
Now I am leaning towards the CH fighterstick and throttle again.

Will all this confusion never end? :S

Maybe I can help.

The CH throttle is probably the best out there, and it's sold as a standalone product. The CH sticks are excellent, but have no twist rudder. You need pedals to use them fully.

A good, semi affordable combo, IMO is to get the CH throttle and the T.16000M

I don't disagree with this, but one advantage of the x52/52Pro is that it's only one usb connection. I have several games that can only use one input besides keyboard and mouse (Alpha 1.1 of Elite Dangerous is a good example). So to use the CH and or Thrustmaster systems, you need 3rd party software to use them all.

The CH Control software allows you to combine any of their products into a single virtual controller with up to 8 axes and 32 buttons.

FWIW, I've got an X52-pro *and* a CH Fighterstick + CH Throttle.

I do like the X52-pro: lots of buttons and stuff, it looks good (once you've turned the leds down!) and the twist stick for yaw works well and is fairly intuitive. The quality/feel is OK, a couple of the controls seem a little awkwardly placed (for me), and the throttle can be a little 'sticky'. No big show-stoppers though. Locking the twist yaw out doesn't do an awful lot, however this probably doesn't matter.

The CH stick is a really solid, dense (fibre-filled I think) plastic and looks slightly less refined, but (imo) has the edge on quality and switchgear. It'll probably last forever - you can tell CH make industrial controls as well as sim stuff. If I was going to pick a few niggles, the pinkie button would be nicer if it was offset rather than being central (X52 is the same) and the trigger should be a microswitch instead of a click button type. Again, not really a big deal, but I might fix that.

The CH Throttle: (I've got the older version without an analogue mini-stick - it has an extra hat instead). Solid and smooth, doesn't look as 'bling' as the Saitek one, no rotaries but a few more usable hats.

It's been tough deciding which to keep, but I've decided to go with the CH stuff (means I've still got to get/make pedals), and my lad will be *very* pleased to get an X52-pro.

Bottom line: I like both systems, each have slight pros and cons (neither is 'perfect') and would be happy with either. The bling will be appreciated by my 14-yo son more than me, and I wanted to give rudder pedals a go, so that really swung it for me.

Hello guys! Im on a really tight budget, would this joystick be ok for Elite: Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Precision Fightstick? At the moment i have an Xbox 360 controller and an old Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick should i stick with those or attempt for something a bit better?

I just got a Logitech g13, so now all my short cut keys are nice and close. I'm also planning on getting a oculus rift so having a keyboard I can use blind is a must.

Edit

I found by using the stick on the g13 it makes flying with FA off a breeze when combined with any hotas. It also has the added benefit of making the menus much faster to use.
