Why is console still being ignored

but as I said in an earlier post @Rubbernuke has been going on about PP for years and look at what's happening.

If you think that's happening because of a single player then you are living in a fantasy world. I mean people have been asking for landable ELW's for ages to, but do you think if they eventually turn up that's only because people asked for them or it's just an ongoing part of the game development? Console and Legacy is dead, it's a separate fork of the game code and even if they wanted to they couldn't put in a lot of the new stuff, all they could do would be to replace the legacy console version with the Odyssey version and just shut down legacy altogether, and we know that's simply not going to happen.

The PP mentiin was tongue in cheek as we all know he has also been after the crossfire paintjob as well, however the point still stands, we are still playing and we are still around and sometimes we like to state the fact . Yes for those on PC it's probably " oh god it's them consoles kicking off" dont those crayon eaters ( consoles) ever learn ? You have the option like I do of not answering or skimming past posts. Let us have one place where we can voice our displeasure even after all those years ? I'm sure that's what happens within Fdev when consoles get mentioned.
Yes it's futile and yes we get it that legacy is dead and Fdev has no interest or intent or even ability in Elite for console but if there is a chance however small we are still around .

There is a path that doesn't include purchasing a PC for those who do not wish to, or are unable to for whichever reason. Any console player who wants to keep playing the actively developed version of Elite Dangerous can go to the Commander PC transfer portal and then use that to play on their console using GeForce Now. It's not ideal that it's a monthly bill, however the quality you can play Elite in can be far greater than what the console version is capable of. Also you get to play with all of the other online PC commanders that make up the bulk of the user base. And it's still cheaper than buying a PC.

Yes the PC transfer portal is one of the few things even I couldn't grumble about( if you can believe that) as it is first class and very easy to use.
Whilst geoforce is a thing the costs at the moment £10 a month ( 1/2 price at the moment ) along with Xbox charging me £60 for core but that could double to play online games, so for a year that's between £180- £480 ? ( I'm just googling prices ) Not sure if I still have to pay for core if I have geoforce ?
And geoforce depends on your internet connection. Not everywhere has FTTC or FTTP in UK yet .
So yes there are options available but to be truthful many of the Xbox players I know haven't gone down the geoforce now route or have tried it out but it wasn't for them.
It's a pity but hey ho .

Are they going to at least change the code for the Engineering changes they are putting out? Seems like it would be a simple thing to do. And the new ship would be cool as well, but that would take more work. I really think FDev messed up when they decided to can consoles.

The engineering changes they are putting out for Live? Which has been updated and changed multiple times and runs on an updated engine since the console split and legacy was set up, I mean who knows how much work they would need to do on Legacy, the "old" code base, to make engineering changes work. And new ships, I mean what do people not get about "No New Content Updates." Really, seriously, you aren't getting them!

Personally I think it's a valid question ?
So even though no additional work on legacy is envisioned some changes may be available due to the base code (which may or may not have been changed) as EDO and 4.0 was not a full rewrite of all code.
But when Fdev updated the Arx points it showed us that certain work could be done with a bit of effort . We even had blank places for the python MK2.
Especially engineering changes, as 4.0 and live runs the same as legacy on engineering drops ?
Thargoid war was new stuff Python MK2 is new stuff , PP2 is new stuff , engineering drops is still old stuff.

No further development means just that, so no.

I really think FDev messed up when they decided to can consoles.
They saved alot of money by cancelling console development. Running out of money for for ED development overall would have been the ultimate mess-up. ED's very existence might have been on the line for all we know. Now PC is getting continued development, and console is still playable with no loss to previous functionality.

That is not messed up.

ED's very existence was on the line with it's poor performance at the begining and I'm not really sure if it ever recovered to pre EDO numbers.
As to development there is no specific Legacy development but if on the off chance any old code that isn't only specific to EDO will that get passed on ?( I don't think it would personally as Fdev have no interest in elite on consoles). Consoles are persona non grata when it comes to CM's . The nearest we have is best guesses and opinions of the few still around .
In my own opinion of course

So if the EDO engineering changes are made and it's seen that because that code was original EDH code ( like the store ?) that Fdev wouldn't implement it on console ?
Yeah I know my whole argument centres around the differences in the code but EDO wasn't a full rewrite . ( Grasping firmly onto straws ). The arx points were not a bug fix ?

I've no doubt with every change and bug and update EDO moves further away from the legacy code, and adding changes to two versions just wouldn't make sense. It may well be the change to arx points were literally a change that required no work to include in legacy, pulling from the same database where the values were changed. Who knows.

They've removed regularly damaged stations from Legacy, even though those have been a part of EDH code for years. There is no chance they are gonna add some actual new tweaks to Legacy code.

The arx points were not a bug fix ?
I doubt any code changed for arx. If they've done that sensibly then the shop code fetches the data it needs to show the store from the cosmetics server - pics, names, numbers and then works out how to show it. Anytime there's a cosmetics change someone (not even a coder) updates the database with the new data and it just flows through to Ody, Horizons, Legacy, Console and the webstore all at the same time.

It's possible that every time someone changes even a number in the store they have to update 5 different bits of hard code but even I don't think Frontier does stuff that badly. And I rag on Frontier all the time.

It's at least worth everyone getting their Commander ported I reckon, whether there's a plan or not. 2021 was three years ago and a couple of GFX generations ago, the 5x series from NVIDIA is around the corner, and there's some pretty good deals on computers that blow my (now) old 2020 laptop out of the water which runs Odyssey well enough at 1080. o7
