Only a small percentage actually try to go to those locations so it is hardly representative of all the jonkers wanting 80ly jump range.
You can't have 60ly, 15 modules, agile and fast in one package. More modules means larger means slower means less agile. The asp is fast and agile but has fewer modules. Conda has a lot of modules but is slow. Wanting it all is wishfull thinking. I think FD will not make another conda mistake in ship balance.
Sigh, really? I mean seriously, have you read the thread? Because it sure doesn't seem like it. :S

Could you post a screen shot of the view out the cockpit so we can see too?
This is me arriving at the edge of the core, yesterday. This can't really capture the full view, as it pretty much wraps around 180 degrees. I am in VR, and I could have chosen a 47 LY ship, but this 37 LY ship has a view that can't be beat, plus the Saud Kruger handling.

There are Class 8 Thrusters.
There are Class 8 Power Plants.
There are Class 8 Power Distributors.
There is Class 8 Life Support.
There are even pointless Class 8 Sensors.
There are Class 8 Slots for OPTIONAL internals for heaven's sake.
Yet there's no Class 8 FSD.
Add that into the game, create a ship the weight of the Anaconda (if you can do it once, you can do it again, eh, FDEV?) with much less armour and hardness to compensate. Give it a class 8 FSD and change the PD and PP to Class 7 each... Hell, even Class 6 would do... Job Done.
Give it 2 medium and 2 small hardpoints, less than the Asp. Give it the crappy magic shield rating balance multiplier of the T9 so that it has weaker shields than the Asp. SLF is optional but would be good for exploring canyons and scouting a route for the SRV once FDEV fix the Smoothification and Beigification Spacetime Reconfiguration Events that struck in 3302.
Give it a decent canopy view and job done.
Get Zorgon Perterson to make it and give it a 150 ~ 200,000,000 price tag.
It's not rocket science.![]()
Yeah, I have an Orca... its cute, but the restrictions for the C6 slot and one C5 slot kinda bust it for exploration. It fails to beat the ASPx due to that issue. You can't get the combination of things you'd want for going on longer trips.<ahem> Orca.
"Usual" exploration ships are the Conda, AspX and DBX. There are people using all kind of ships though. I hear the Orca is pretty decent for example. Same for T6 on a much cheaper price range.
And of course AspS and DBS are not-as-good but cheaper alternatives of their bigger sisters.
Yeah, you want an OP 300ly jumprange. The conda is already broken with it getting 55-60ly from a 6A fsd, and you want to make it lighter and add an 8A fsd. Seriously, go play some other game. This has nothing to do with exploration and is only a lazy boy's pipedream.

An Orca with a better canopy and no module restriction and an SLF would make the trick lol.
I'm sure when the "priority" for this game finally evolves from "combat first" mentality, Exploration ships may eventually get some much needed attention.
As long as FD is first and foremost basing new ship design with combat-centric game play in mind, we're no doubt going to have more of the same. It's pretty evident that FD views "exploration" in this game as a secondary consequence, rather than an intended profession, given their history of little focus on Exploration in general.
They'll do everything possible to please such players, including massive amounts of weapon hardpoints, military slots, defensive capability, agility, huge jump range capability, etc...
...and then leave Explorers with scraps from the table.
Go ahead, FD... prove me wrong. PLEASE.
I Triple Elite dare you.
I wouldn't expect Exploration ships to get much attention before the Q4 changes to the exploration mechanics - after all, it doesn't make sense to optimize for the current gameplay if they're going to significantly rework it later.
Imagine they gave us a new 'explorer' ship tomorrow, with no module slots smaller than class 4 but with 8 utility slots - the forum would have a meltdown.
Now imagine the exploration rework gives us 4 different scanners that go in utility slots and a geological surveyor SRV that needs a class 4 hangar. That horrible new explorer would suddenly become perfectly designed.
Ideally, the new mechanics will come with a new ship that's suited to whatever the changes are.

We as Explorers are typically "patient", to be sure. That said, it's been 3+ years and we're still waiting on some sort of "priority focus".
I'm not asking for an exploration-centric ship "tomorrow", I'm just simply asking them to stop treating Explorers like we're "second class citizens" compared to combat-centric types that they pander to consistently whenever they scream "balance/imbalance!". (They seem to respond to those changes pretty quickly in comparison... which leads me to believe their general focus is on pewpew)
Exploration improvements should be at the very least "on the radar" and announced as such, rather than the complete radio silence we regularly receive. Some minor QOL improvements, such as utilization of scanning equipment in Utility slots instead of Internals would go a loooooooong way in showing some good faith in their effort to improve the profession and activities available in this game as a whole.
I'm all for a new "exploration" type ship to be introduced, to be sure, but we can at least deal with some of the ships as currently implemented if we're able to utilize them more efficiently.
