Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Good morning guys, it's great to see the renewed interest in Asia's ungulates, and as I said before, the lack of ungulates in Asia, especially deer, is unacceptable and I hope in the future In the DLC, we can see more Asian ungulates. Now I have made an atlas of some common Asian ungulates. It is not for anything else, just to show that so many animals with their own characteristics cannot be seen in the game. this really needs to change.

1、Cervinae and Odocoileinae

2.Muntiacinae and Hydropotes

3.Moschidae

4.Caprinae and Antilopinae

Of course, compared with African antelopes and European deer, what we lack most are Asian deer, Asian antelopes and goats. I really hope to see them in the next DLC.

Since the new DLC is coming so quickly, I think there is a possibility that the animals this time are probably simple changes to the models of some previous animals. There will likely be no, or relatively few, new "animals" and new "animations".
literally means nothing the files changed are I believe translation files so has no affect on the production of animals also it would be very bad practice to still be developing major animations less then a month before suspected release
Hmm... Actually, I think cat bags are also good, or ungulate bags. After all, I want a lot more. 7 cats or 7 types of hooves((especially Asian ones)), I'm more than happy to accept that.LOL
anything but ungulates anything.
I like surprises but it takes the fun out of all the time speculating.
it makes speculating more fun because it makes us think of more wild packs and animal picks the only exception is when its the correct theme but almost non of the animals are correct then everyone is just salty
I mean, it could happen. But it would be an egregious misstep if it happened (and, TBH, I'm not sure they'd give us the gold-nosed in a highland spack instead of new world monkeys sometime down the line). I just think we're in a completely different era from the two examples that you cited.

Both were pre-meta wishlist so there wasn't really a public record as to what the community on the whole really wanted. And, TBH, I always assumed they went with the proboscis over the gibbon because (a) they weren't sure how to sort out brachiation at the time and (b) they assumed the proboscis' unique appearance would be a winner. And I'd like to think they learned from that misstep given how infrequently they're used in-game (they honestly do seem to be paying close attention in most scenarios with their DLC picks or there's a decent rationale for inclusion).

And again, people aren't just saying "we want monkeys." We're all talking about very specific monkeys in a very direct way now. They'd have to be asleep at the wheel to think that one pick would suffice, hah.
honestly both those options are better for the general public capuchin have much more of a presence in pop culture then other new world monkeys and proboscis monkey is a bit of a meme. Thats largely the biggest thing forum uses miss everyone here is arguing for the common zoo animals saying that we dont need things like the proboscis monkey but forget that the people playing the game dont care if its common they care if it is recognisable so the golden snub nosed monkey isnt that bad of a choice to the general public when compared to say another capuchin which people would find no different to the other one. This is a major fault of the meta wishlist since it only shows what we want a heavily biased sample of the player base who will likely get the packs no matter what im sure if they did a survey of all players the list would look very different and many of the top contenders wouldnt be there.
We must be running in completaly different circles, then, because I haven't heard any mention of it. Haha. I've mostly just seen folks wanting South American monkeys. Good point about the wishlist, though. It's on there but... It still pales in comparison to the howler monkey, etc.
I have only seen the snubnosed monkey mentioned here as a lets hope they dont add this no one actucally wants it
It has been talked to death before, especally around the red deers arival.
Also to make sense of frontiers choices, its less that they have a europe bias here and more that all 5 of europes deer species are just great contenders.
Red deer is arguably THE deer, the fallow deer looks very distinct from the red and is the third most common animal in the EAZA while also seperating itself with its docile nature, most unique antlers of the spotted deers and compatability for walkthroughs and petting zoos, the reindeer is THE tundra animal and the moose is the largest deer.
Even the roe deer makes a great case as a smaller and very common deer with a large range and distinct look, but just for variety sake id strongly prefer a musk deer which comes in the same size class

Yes, brother, this is actually the crux of the problem. As the area with the richest species, although many people say that Asia has enough species, in fact... there are really many fatal deficiencies.

K I can forgive the pallas cat, cause fine its not the most interesting ( I dont see this but this is not the time for my cat friend, I'll bring him up in a couple days) but the moment we start slandering the Takin, things become lets go with "compelling".

You can't tell me a regular furry cow with two large horns as its main attraction is wanted more than this beautifully coloured furry masterpiece of an animal.View attachment 373407
Never seen em in a zoo and I dont have to, they're gonna be so much fun to build for.
I see no difference between them
Europe: Wisent
North America: Musk Ox
Asia: Père David’s deer
Africa: Eland
South America: Guanaco or Vicuna
Australia: Banteng

List of ungulates of Australia:

Cervidae

Bovidae

Camelidae

Suidae

everything on that list is invasive in australia ungulates are incredibly destructive to our native grasslands as the ground cannot support constant hooves. Almost everything on that list I hate with a passion because it has been drilled into my head that they are destroying everything and are pests. I wouldnt mind any of the deer making it into the game just not under the pretence that they are in australia

Gonna have to choose blue.
I choose neither.

Asia in my opinion has enough animals FOR NOW it represents around 30% of all ingame animals same with africa both regions still have whole lists of animals that they can add to make it more diverse but they can wait till we have the basics from the other 4 continents please

Also a point I dont see anywhere near enough people making about the asian vs european deer is that deer is one of the few thing iconic to europe which I think is why we got the red and fallow deer instead of a north american or asian deer its because europe is so limited with what can be added which isnt a bird too small or just a european subsect of something across the northern hemisphere.

And building off this as a new conversation starter, Other than monkeys and birds, what is everybody's top 3 groups that they need for the game to cover most?
  • Rodents: The most diverse group of mammals, yet only has 4 species in the game. To be fair, the majority of species in this order are far too small to be habitat animals, but there's still plenty of options amongst those that are - maras, agoutis, New World porcupines, springhares, Malagasy giant rat, northern Luzon giant cloud rat, rakali, the list goes on.
  • Marsupials: Unsurprisingly the most abundant and specious group of mammals in my local zoos. Getting the devil was a huge plus for pouched diversity but a bilby, quoll, some form of possum and several more macropods are all still very necessary to cover the basics of what you'd see in zoos here.
  • Habitat reptiles: There's still several species of tortoises and monitor lizards I'd love to have, but also the option for more unique additions, like large freshwater turtles (eg the pig-nosed turtle or Arrau turtle), the Argentine black-and-white tegu and rhinoceros iguana*. Honestly wouldn't even be opposed to some new crocodilians (especially crocodiles, given we only have one), it's not like they're any more redundant than the more popularly requested cats, canids or bears anyway.
*I think these have a great chance of being habitat animals even if the base game iguanas, which are a similar size, remain in exhibits, given rhinoceros iguanas are mostly terrestrial and are also often kept in sizeable outdoor enclosures in real zoos

Monotremes should arguably be up there given the short-beaked echidna is the most essential missing mammal for me but they literally just need that one species to be complete lol.

Brother, a key issue is about invading species. Whether the people they brought were wrong or animals were wrong. This is very important, please do not force people's mistakes to animals.

But the only caprine or deer like species we have that is endemic to Asia is the Water Buffalo and the Wild Horse; we’re severely lacking in deer and caprines, and seeing how a mountains pack is the best chance to knock off a couple of those off the list, those should be top priority.

Africa doesn’t have any not doable gaps (African monkeys are doable, but we all know frontier is allergic to monkeys so yeah) but they can easily include some caprines / deer for Asia.

all this ungulate talk has made me realise we have about half of all extant odd toed ungulates so which out of the remaining should be added
  • mountain tapir
  • Brazilian tapir
  • javan rhino
  • sumatran rhino
  • grevys zebra
  • mountain zebra
  • kiang
  • onager

I agree asia is severely lacking in ungulates but I feel the time would be better spent on European ungulates since that is the only hope for getting more european animals and when the numbers are more even asian ungulates should be added.

As for occupying 30% of the quota, isn’t this an intuitive reflection of species diversity and the commonness of zoos? I want to know a question about dingoes, Tasmanian devils, koalas, platypuses, wombats and kiwis. Apart from zoos in Australia and New Zealand, are these animals more common than Asian animals? If we use the number of animal species in each continent as a yardstick, I believe that the representation of animals in Oceania in the game is definitely higher than that in Asia. Many players have said that Oceania has been ignored and requested that relevant animals be added, which has been supported by many people. Why not Asia?

With a wry smile, there are already 4 species of deer in Europe, 2 of which are unique to Europe, plus one ibex. What else can Europeans not be satisfied with? Due to large-scale urban development, Europe's biodiversity is lower compared to Asia, Africa, and South America.

I feel the time would be better spent on European ungulates since that is the only hope for getting more european animals and when the numbers are more even asian ungulates should be added.
I disagree I think Asia needs ungulate more than Europe, I don’t really care that much about European ungulates or European animals in general (European players are gonna hate me lol), we have the red deer, fallow deer, and we have the ibex, we still don’t have a goat for Asia when Europe already does. Main priority for Europe ungulates for me is the boar, but since that’s probably not coming any time soon the Markhor and Takin are my priority right now.

One more thing, friend, please tell me, has musk ox become an invasive species in Australia? In a climate like Australia, musk oxen can actually survive. Life is really tenacious! LOL

For Europe, I think there are only two missing animals, one is the European bison and the other is the wild boar, and these two can be left to next year.

im saying when your zoo game has less than 20 south American animals one of the most biodiverse continents and close to 50 asian animals there is a problem if the gap was closer I would be fine.
Ill concede on oceania and diversity even though I feel we need alot more animals I understand that globally they are not common. Europe is also fine since most of the animals wouldnt be unique to it but south america and north america south be the focus not asia and definitely not africa.
I would also like to point out this is the current trend asia and africa keep switching whos in first but the gap has slowly gotten closer to the rest from roughly a 40% lead to roughly a 30% lead.
At an ideal ratio i think it should 25% afrcia - asia / 20% south america / 15% north america / 5-10% oceania and europe

no I meant the stuff they put under Australia I dont think the musk ox is in Australia
OK,lets to back, a key issue is about invading species. Whether the people they brought were wrong or animals were wrong. This is very important, please do not force people's mistakes to animals.
Invasive species are a headache for every country. But the point is, it’s people, not animals, who make this mistake.
