I really need an external view to enjoy this game to it's fullest extent.

It's simple - no hud elements - no ability to fire weapons - movement controls only.

I want to admire my ship - I certainly won't pay for paint jobs if I can't enjoy them.

I would also like to see an external view of my ship.

External Views

No doubt this has been discussed before, but I was just wandering if there is a DDF entry about external views? (ie: fore/aft/port/starboard views)

Will they return in ED at some point in time?

puppy PvP combat and its puppying importance. IMO being able to make gorgeous screenies / clips of the ships in their natural environment is far more important than some artificial hindrance to a niche activity.

Just for the record...

I'd enjoy a third person prospective myself.
Non combat, no flight control, just rotational viewing to enhance my experience and take personal screen shots.

I watched the linked video, and will watch the rest.

But at 44 minutes into the video they do confirm that they are looking into the Third Person prospective. Which would make sense if they want to justify those alternate skins that are available to buy.

Fingers crossed they feed us some information soon. I for one want it implemented asap.

Hello Folk!

To add a little developer clarification:

We are looking at external camera views, with the following caveats:

* They are contextualised as camera/drone systems
* They are not designed to be used as alternate flight views
* Their primary function is to allow "beauty shots"
* They may have occasional tertiary game play functions (such as seeing how close you are to something)

No ETA at the moment though.

Hope this helps.

All sounds like what we had hoped for/envisaged...

Thanks for the update!

Cameras!

Another little idea, again apologies if its already been brought up, the forums have so many posts now its hard to look through them all.
Basically, having a camera "weapon" that can attach to hard-points for external views or even camera drone hard-points so you can deploy a remote camera (controllable via remote control from your ship) which you can switch to from your normal cockpit view, letting you maybe view a battle with your ship at a "safe" distance, or to even look around the exterior of your own ship to see if any repairs etc are needed.

Oh lord please don't. People will begin using them to peak around asteriods, track people through different stuff, etc.

If you are going to do that. Ok but make it a deployable drone with a gigantic signature on the ship scanner with a huge pointer denoting exactly where you are for people to kill you.... and it shuts your shields off (can't deploy a drone through shields now).

and your engines, and keeps your ship hot.

(I hate 3rd party superviews in games, ruins the immersion).

So long as you can pull this off this sounds like the ideal compromise.

There is a real potential for a whole range of missions using this as well.

beauty shots for "magazines" in game.
private eye jobs of collective evidence of corruption (federation political leaders in empire territory)
or proof of big industry dumping waste in space

etc etc.

Cameras

Posted this once already but didn't seem to appear, so apologies if it turns up twice.
How about having camera "weapons/accessories" that could attach to your hardpoints, allowing you to get external views. possibly even a camera drone hardpoint, which would allow you to fire off a camera drone(s) which you could control remotely from your cockpit, allowing you for instance to view a battle from a "safe" distance or even search the outside of your ship to see if you have any damage etc.

Edit: I posted this as a separate thread as I had not seen this one, was moved to this thread, idea already planned by devs, awesome! :-D
