[DW2] Distant Worlds 2 - A Journey of Discovery

Just wondering, what good there is to have mining since we dont have the megaship where to sell the mats?
I dont want to haul extra weight in form of mining equipment just for the sake of mining. If i cant sell the stuff anywhere i'm just not gonna bother..

More will be revealed about it later, and you can decide if mining is for you. It will certainly have some good purposes, of that I can assure you, but whether that's what you envisioned and what you like, I can't say just yet. Hang on for now and don't completely rule it out :)

A pity about the megaship, although with the content from yesterday's stream, I think I can see why. Glad to know that the CG is going to go ahead though, and that it won't be inside Sagittarius A* the system. I'm curious: will there be an opposing goal, so any meaningful way to oppose it? Not that I plan to do so (would have only done it if it were in Sag. A* proper), but it would be good to know.

Good idea about continuing the metallicity survey here. That should be much easier with the new FSS changes, since if people will explore a system, they'll now map its gas giants as well. All that's needed then are well-chosen areas for the data gatherers to survey, and even the data from others who don't participate can be used.

Looking forward to the details; so far, things look to be moving in a pretty good direction.

Will you be filling in the "Expeditions within an Expedition" chart in the OP itself at some point in the future?
The waypoints will not be revealed ahead of time in order to prevent the expedition from falling apart or people going ahead and scanning systems before the rest of us :) It will be filled out in the OP though, and whenever a change is made, the social media outlets will publicise it. I will be tweeting like a bird

Details of the initiative are still being discussed and more will get revealed as time goes on. But yes, things are moving in a VERY good direction, this expedition is going to be the perfect marriage with 3.3 and 3.3 is the exploration update we've wanted for ever. Seriously, if I had 5 major things on my list for exploration perfection, this update is bringing like 3 of them

Looking forward to the launch and getting underway across the galaxy en mass once more!

Serious shame about the lack of the mega ship though, without it I don’t see how mining can be a viable activity along the way? Will wait for the details Erimus is talking about. Pity we won’t have fleet carriers along either, they could have potentially made up for the missing mega ship.

Still, there will be lots of exploring and social gatherings along the way!

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the megaship was plan B if fleet carriers weren't a thing.

Hi, due to the way megaships work, what we proposed turned out to be a technical impossibility, so there will be no megaship. I understand that some may find this disappointing, (others might be relieved - it was a bit controversial), but the goals, theme and projects of the expedition are going to be so awesome we won't even care :)

I am so excited, just look at what's on offer, this expedition is going to be UNREAL

I will add to this post that we foresee a lot of good things for mining along the way, even though some of our hopes weren't possible. They may not be what people were expecting and this may mean some people have to sadly change their plans, but we still see mining as being a strong part of the expedition. See the mining section above and await some more details to be revealed as we get closer to the date of departure. If it turns out that after everything some people are still disappointed, then alas, I am so sorry about that. Thankfully, we still have such an amazing expedition with so many outstanding things going on! Let's focus on the positive!

And I for sure am bringing along some mining beams :)

Hi, megaship explanation here ^

I’m so excited for this. This will be my first time exploring with others. I just hope I can balance college, this game, world of Warcraft, and life all the same time. It will take some planning but it should be possible.

Carriers were always considered a bonus and nothing on DW2 fully depended on their inclusion or not. What the early proposals and discussions were about was to explore ideas on how expeditionary events could incorporate practical reasons to include the fantastic new mining and prospecting gameplay on deep space events. Basically bringing more gameplay opportunities and a variety of new roles for people to enjoy along the way. But as been pointed out, one or two of the initial discussions turned out to be technically unfeasible. However we're very happy to say that deep space prospecting and the new mining gameplay will most definitely have some very practical roles to play during aspects of the expedition!

Thats cool. I may give my krait a full set of mining weaponry. Unless they introduce a SLF miner, then I will take one of those.

I'm in my Corvette, already about 33k ly out from Sol at the moment. Perhaps I will head to Beagle and hang out in order to greet everyone.

Also, thought I read something about a station at the galactic core...if that were ever to happen, I'm afraid I'd never ever return to the bubble.
