Thargoid Attacks: Where, When and What you can do about it

* Decoding Eagle Eye is now simpler - use this decoder and type in the phonetic letters called out by the eagle eye unregistered comms beacons - this gives the target system, though it's usually a bit mangled, e.g. Maiaiaiaiaiaia = Maia :)

someone tell those guys from AEGIS that every commander int he PF now has access to a new interface called "Codex".

the whole "rumor" "discovered" and "confirmed" mechanic would make perfect sense if it was connected to eagle eye

Pleiades Sector HR-W d1-41 definitely seems infested, at least as many NHSS as in Pleione last week, including at least half a dozen NHSS 9 in my instance. Dropped into one and survived the ECM pulse, but then, the Interceptor (Hydra?, didn't see him), facing the law, preferred to wake out and I was left alone with the Scouts. Let's see what else can be done here :D

Incursions seem to be coming down:

Yes, this really is a very dirty sector crowded with nhss from 3 to 9. Been there for two days now but this morning it still looked the same. Maybe a tiny sign of progress after I have cleared all level 4 around planet 2 no new ones respawned and I could move on to the next location. There are also an AEGIS- and I.P.S.A.L-Faction in this system. The latter offered me a mission right in open space. Hope we can fight them all in this damned system.

I’m confused, just getting back into the game after 6 months or so and thought I’d try find some non human signal sources. Headed off to Bhagutsuk and I can’t find a single one. There is an AX conflict zone, but I’m not equipped for that, just want to chase/shoot some scouts at the moment.

I got the impression from various forum threads/reddit/etc that I’d be able to find NHUSS in these systems listed in the galnet “thargoid activity report” but so much of the info out there conflicts with one another due to how things have evolved over the time since I last played, rather than having to travel all the way out to merope area. Has this AX conflict zone totally replaced the old signal sources, do I have to make my way out of the bubble to fight scouts again, or am I missing something here?

I was a bit confused by this at first as well since I'm in the same boat as you just returning. You can still just fight scouts in the AX Zones, theres lots of them in there, they come in waves. Just stay out of range of the interceptors and if one of the bigger ships like a Medusa or Basilisk does aggro you just low wake out since they are stupid fast and deadly.

The NHSS are in infested systems. Bhagustuk is currently in incursion state. The original post of the thread explains it.

The thargoids first infest a system. If the infestation isnt beaten back, it then moves to incursion where they damage the starports. If the incursion is beaten back then the thargoids retreat and system goes into repair state.

You can find random NHSS all over the Pleiades since thats their backyard, but fighting there doesnt effect the state of the systems reported by Eagle Eye. If you want to help the war effort/change the BGS you have to fight in the infested systems or the incursion systems listed in Galnet. Fight in infestation NHSS to prevent an incursion. Fight in incursion AX Zones to reclaim the system and put it in a state of repair. Bring supplies to repair stations and bring them fully back online.

if you just want to fight only scouts in NHSS, yeah you're going to have to goto the Pleiades and look for the lower threat 3 or 4 NHSS.

For me at least, fighting scouts in the AX Zones is more beneficial. It contributes to the war effort and you can get some practice shooting swarms and learning how the big bugs move even if you arent going to try to kill a bigger one just yet. Plus, the random NHSS have a limited number of scouts once you clear them its over. You can farm scouts in the AX zones all day for combat rank and just goto the Aegis ship to repair/rearm.

Thanks, that post was really helpful in understanding what’s going on. I’ll persevere win the AX conflict zones and try to stay out of the way of the big ones as you suggest.

I assume from your comment “if you just want to fight only scouts ...” that the NHSS found in the infested systems are different to the ones I remember from running around in Pleiades sector, they were always scout only IIRC.

They function the same. But the AX zones are usually closer to the bubble than flying way out to Merope to find random NHSS since the infested systems listed in Galnet will stop having NHSS rather quickly due to the players doing a heck of a job fighting them back.

The type of thargoids in the NHSS is based on its threat level. If you only want to see scouts drop into an NHSS 3 or 4. NHSS 5 and up with have scouts with a bigger ship. My comment was more along the lines of you dont want to drop into a threat 9 NHSS if you are only looking for scouts.

if the number of enemies in the AX Zone is an issue aggro a couple of scouts and kite them away from the main battle. Thats what I do. It really depends on what the Pilot Federation NPCs are doing. Sometimes they wipe the scouts quick, sometimes after the first wave they all get knocked out and you are in there with 10+ scouts and a couple of big meanies. If it gets to that level i usually just jump out and reset it.

I'm new to thargoid hunting too so I'm mainly practicing trying to get my skill up fight the bigger ones.

hmm, somehow my "reply with quote" buttons do not work anymore (this post was sent using keyboard only)

isn't there an RSS feed or so for those thargoid activity news?
find it rather disturbing that someone has to open up galnet, dig into that activity post, make a screenshot, etc. to share it here on the forums

FDEV?

No, the only scout only NHSSs were the threat 3 or 4s, where ever they are, and AFAIK still is. Originally, when the various interceptors were introduced a threat 5 would be a Cyclops, thr 6 basilisk, thr 7 Medusa, (occasionally they'd be no Thargoid ship), but later on they changed it so a thr 7 could be a cyclops along with some scouts. Also it now goes upto threat 9! Which, AFAIK, will always contain at least 1 Hydra, I've not dropped into 1 of them so I don't know their details.

Some of us who docked and logged out in the Bhagutsuk Rescue Ship or Saviour ships are experiencing CTDs when logging into Solo, Open or PG modes. If you have this problem submit a ticket to have you moved to another system. In the future, try not to log out in Incursion stations or ships so this doesn't happen to you.

I ran into a big (non-thargoid) bug. Apparently if you dock at a megaship in Baghutsuk and logout, you can't login anymore, it will ctd every time.

So yeah, no hunting this weekend anymore.
