You have 4thing 2 scan, for 2 logs. Just regular data scanning, you should see the data point on your contact menu.

I see 3 things. Scanned the comms links, but there is also a data point I can't figure out how to scan.

it's no big deal, the data point is only money I think (and random "fluff" like "log in failed" and stuff). You only have 2 logs to read.

That doesn't tell me how to scan it.
It does. If you scan too low you'll "lose" the targeting, because the thing moves UP. You better use the turret and follow it.
He's at a Guardian site right now. Before he was at a Conda built into a minor ground base, lot's of thargoid ships crashed in concentrated area
Turret doesn't work either.
I don't want to spoil it, but it's the place. At least that's the description. It's been found already.

BTW, it works now. Changed targets then it suddenly decided to work.
You should have 2 logs. Let me know if you have a Salivation mail, I had nothing.
