An open letter to Frontier Development

I'm honest...If there was another SpaceSim for VR like ED is imo, I would seriously think about changing.
VR is the only thing keeping me loyal to the game right now, and I'm still looking for alternatives to scratch that "narrative" itch.

I swear, every single time I find myself loving ED, Frontier throws my roses on the ground and stomps on them. I'm beginning to think they actively want to drive veteran players out of the game in order to reduce their server costs.

Oh...and another thing that wouldn't be an issue:

All those community-driven events (BuckyBall, Expeditions, Hauling-Runs) were made by dedicated Elite-Fans. I'm pretty sure that all those folks would gladly deliver a GalNet Article that FDev just have to copy/paste into.
We used to. Then that option was removed. The day player submitted Galnet articles were taken from us was a sad day indeed. Lord Zoltan used to write brilliant ones for Canonn too... All gone... But that was years ago now. The steady decline into obscurity is now complete.

I REALLY hope not so...Well let's see what New Era will bring for us "old bunch". It'd better be "awesome", "great" and all the other superlatives they've thrown out.

Since I dont think it's plausible to believe that FD will hire a narrative team to deal only with the Galnet / InGame Events (although it would be really nice)

Fleet Carriers First!

So, tell me more about this "Star Citizen" game. I'm finally a member of the PC Master Race, after all!
Its protracted-development and near-constant dramas are often entertaining

Greetings Commanders,

We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to voice their concerns and feedback around the reduction of GalNet articles, as well as sharing with us suggestions on ways that we could utilise existing community groups and content to re-introduce them.

We wanted to expand a little more on the details of what led us to this decision. While the previous narratives that were told through GalNet articles gave an insight into what life was like in the 3300's, they also gave players an expectation that these stories were unfolding in-game, and that commanders could fly out to the system and see or even engage with what was happening (which they could not). This, in part, contributed to our reason to shift the focus of GalNet articles to in-game narratives and occurrences, over out-of-game ones.

However, we also want to mention that the narrative/writing team are not solely responsible for writing GalNet articles, but also a number of other duties that contribute to the creation of Elite Dangerous. With the advent of the Fleet Carriers update and the 2020 release, their efforts have been focused on ensuring that all of the text required for it is done in time. Although they are an extremely talented team, they are a small team, which means that we had to prioritise some content over other content, such as GalNet articles. Although we love seeing the incredible content the community news outlets create, editing and implementing it into the game still demands a degree of focus that we do not have currently in scope for the writing team.

We hope that provides some context to why, at the current time, the plans for GalNet articles are unlikely to change. That said, we have passed this feedback on to the team for consideration and will keep you updated if there are any changes.

In addition to the hiatus the game currently is... This is extremely disappointing :(

Is there at least an ETA for Galnet, CG's and II's to make a come back?

Well, at least they have a writing team. ;)

I'm not in the least bit surprised to be honest, and that is a diplomatic way of acknowledging the letter and not reconsidering the decision. Given budgets and allocations were probably assigned some time ago, it would have been unwise to expect anything else. All eyes on the 2020 update, I guess.

In the meantime, I imagine the fans will keep the old lore alive as they have always done, Fdev or no Fdev.

Cheers,

Drew.

Greetings Stephen,

nice diplomatic response I'd say ... I'd read it however as: "we hear what you are saying, but atm we are no interested". I see it as sad, becasue OP also suggested use of content provided by this community which require minimal "work" and can be announced as is. You do not need huge articles explaining things in detail there, simple short info or notices that there is ongoing this or that (like expeditions in OP for example, or stuff similar to "postcard" at yours twitter) can help cmdrs find a goal what to do "today" when they open ED game. I went the same road after maybe first 6 months of play and everytime when I started play I asked: "What I will to do today?". It progressed to state, when I mostly closed game because I had no goal and my free play-time have passed away. Gallnet as information source can be very helpfull here, it can give a hand and offer info or pointer to something what can be interesting. You have in game perfect tool for attract players attention and which can serve players on daily basis, but you are not using it ... it's a shame.
